In this episode me and my friend ‪@brvlantpastis‬ (Vyatich) visit the most well-known ghost town in Tukey with more than 700 copy/paste villas.
Nestled in the Turkish countryside, Burj Al Babas was envisioned as a fantastical haven, boasting 732 identical château-style villas sprawled across the landscape. Each mansion was meticulously designed to mimic the architectural charm of French castles, complete with spires, turrets, and intricate facades, creating an otherworldly atmosphere reminiscent of fairy tales.
The ambitious project sought to cater to the burgeoning luxury real estate market. The development promised an array of amenities, including thermal spas, shopping centers, and recreational facilities, aiming to transform the area into a lavish getaway.
However, despite the grand vision and an initial surge of interest, Burj Al Babas faced an unfortunate fate. Financial difficulties hit hard, and construction came to an abrupt halt in 2019. The once-promising venture crumbled as the Sarot Group filed for bankruptcy, leaving behind a surreal landscape of 587 deserted and incomplete castles, forever frozen in time.
This ghost town now stands as a stark reminder of the challenges that can accompany grand-scale real estate ventures. The fate of Burj Al Babas serves as a cautionary tale, where dreams of creating a fairytale haven turned into a haunting testament to the unpredictability of economic landscapes.

Rows of identical houses with no yard all bunched up together looks about like any modern US suburban neighborhood built in the last 20 years.

@@Kingzzxepic I do like the way you can make an entire American home vibrate with only 3 14inch subwoofers and a 700 dollar amplifier. Beyond that tho I have mixed feelings about modern American construction techniques. It's supposed to be cheaper but it's still so expensive to build a modern home I would never notice.

You know that most of Turkish people forget this ridiculous houses. This ridiculous thing was advertised so well at the time in Türkiye that it even has its own website. I don't know why they built an illogical building to attract Arab citizens for sell citizenship to a district that is a Unesco heritage site as a Cittaslow (a quiet city). But it's a good thing they didn't manage to do it. I hope it will decay even more and turn into towns in horror movies...
Also, on behalf of the Turks, I would like to thank you for reminding us of this nonsense. Because we have dementia, we need to be constantly reminded by someone. Normally, people should react to such nonsense, but they only know how to shout Palestine.
In addition, in a country without a nuclear power plant, a lead factory in Gaziemir, Izmir, buried the nuclear waste it purchased unknowingly, so there is around 10,100 m3 of radioactive waste in that region. Anyone can enter as they wish. I definitely hope you can show this place and remind us.

The style of the houses reminds me for the style of the German houses and villas of the Kaiser time of the years between 1800 and 1910. It really looks like, as if they wanted to copy that German style, where every villa and many regular, normal multi-family rent houses in Germany looked like little German castles.
The difference is: The German houses were build for eternity in high quality.
AND: Every German house looked different and unique. The houses in the video are looking like a crazy nightmare because they all look the same.

If the village ever had been completed, it would have looked soooo shitty as every house would look the same.
Since rich people might prefer an unique house over a "copy and paste" style house I wonder who thought that building something like this park was a good idea...

Who wants to live in a clone village like that with abysmal construction quality? Most of the ornate features appear to be styrofoam with plaster on top and very creative cinderblock laying where walls and corners dont line up as they should. 😅

The build quality of these houses is hilarious. Major ornaments for example are made from Styrofoam. These houses, even when finished, wouldn't last for 15 years.

    • @Alex-og3ev
      @Alex-og3ev 6 місяців тому +18

Styrofoam is fine, it's pretty popular for decorations. Doesn't last but also cheap and easy to replace. It has no place in $500k house though, sure. Cinder blocks too. And look at that concrete, it already crumbles in places and its reinforcement is exposed to elements. I've seen on this channel Soviet buildings abandoned for decades in better condition than this.

Reminds me of a time I visited China back in the 2000s. It was amazing they had row after row of identikit French houses. Then row after row of English style houses we have on the sea front here. It was most Bizarre. Couldn't see if they were inhabited or not. These projects seem to be a good idea at the time, but who really wants to live in a recreated Paris or Rome?? P.S your English is excellent by the way. Just a note those stairs you showed are known as a spiral staircase.
