I've GOT to tell you this. Started watching this, and while I was listening to you, just for fun I went on Fragrantica and started punching notes into the search, putting together notes that it seemed to my imagination could work well together. Some trial and error like always, including a bit of "nobody's ever put those together yet." But after I punched in Cypriol (olfactorily imagining what it must be like, from your description) and then, taking a leap in my mental experiment, CARDAMOM, and then...GRAPEFRUIT, the assortment of fragrances Fragrantica offered me included Dunhill Century, and that was the one that pulled me in. It was while I reading about it, as your video continued in the background, that you suddenly mentioned--surprise!--Dunhill Century! Neat little synchronicity there.
I've noticed this note coming up a little more in the fragrances I've sampled and usually I get an aromatic woody vibe from it, but I haven't ever smelled the raw ingredient or oil so I didn't know it was the cypriol. I've seen it in Bois d'ebene, Atomica by Robert Piguet, Modern oud by Moresque and even in Journey man or Babylon. I like woody fragrances in general, so I quite enjoy this note in fragrances. Thank you for the video!
I love the note of Cypriol in fragrances!! Bond 9 Ruby Dubai with the Rose and saffron is amazing. BLEU TURQUOISE Armani Previ and Mystery Modern Mark SCENTENCE 360 🔥🔥🔥🔥. Thought I was the only weirdo who loved this note 😆
That‘s a funny coincidence, I just got myself some oil. To me it smells like Oud Wood or rather the main ingredient Oud Wood is based upon. Similar how you can smell that the amber accord is based up Labdanum.
Was walking through the perfume section and noticed that the DJ store actually started to have penhaligon's, but only Cairo, so tried it and loved it, so bought it right there and then. My partner loved it, so got the thumbs up 👍
I love Bete Humaine but my top favorite from Liquides Imaginaires is Desert Suave, the date and seasame notes really set it apart. I also love Buveur de Vent and Flueve Tendre from the house. I've not heard of Jack Perfume, so once again you're introducing me to a new house. I prefer Babylon and Constantinople to Cairo from Penhaligons but Cairo is good, just not my favorite. Splendid Wood is okay but I prefer 24 Rue De L'University from Les Vestaires, my absolute favorite from that line is Caban which I feel is superunderrated.
@@ThePerfumeGuy Liquides Imaginaires has a lot of great and original fragrances, some others that come to mind, not mentioned above are, Dom Rose, Bloody Wood, Tapis Volant and Bello Rabelo. They're all very different from anything I've ever tried before. Very interesting house. Top three from them is 3.Flueve Tendre 2.Bete Humaine and 1. Desert Suave.
10/10 video, I had several favourote fragrances that I liked so much (Promise included), but I could not put a finger on what does attract me to them so much. And then I found out it most definitely is cypriol. You listed few more fragrances I should focus on. I'm also on a lookout for essential oil. Just to enjoy the woodsy earthy dry facets it offers. Your single note reviews are so educative and inspirational, really had a great time watching, thank you!
Dry woody grass…like a wicker A detect no significance difference between Cypriol and Papyrus. They are redundant notes. Both smell like dry grass stalks and dry old book paper. Nice that you are creating videos of what selected notes smell like
Finally, a Jack review! You should try the original Jack, it’s something else and so unusual. I wanted to meet Richard E Grant at the launch event in Liberty London, but couldn’t travel to London that night.
@@ThePerfumeGuy you should watch Withnail & I which is an iconic British film. Anyone who’s seen the film will know understand the reference to Camberwell Carrot ( and it relates to some of his fragrances)
Obviously I'm not a perfumer, but from my research cypriol is basically what the majority of western/mass marketed oud accords are based on. Using real oud just doesn't happen in mass market global releases as its waaay to cost prohibitive. I have read a lot of oud accords, quite like building and amber accord with labdanum, benzoin and vanilla, oud accords are built with cypriol taking center stage in the accord like labdanum does, then mixed with various things like patchouli and so on. I have grown to love the note.
If too sweet , cypriol tends to remind me of Nag Champa , as in Prissana Nefer . I really want to love that one but the nagarmotha in there is so strong....that Nishane bottle...WANT !! Nice list , piqued my interest in a few .
Perris Monte Carlo Oud Imperial is a fantastic fragrance prominently featuring cypriol. I'm surprised you left it out. The Extrait is even better than the EDP.
I know exactly what you mean by a woody fragrance getting "weighty." I am charmed by CdG Wonderwood when spritzing it on, but by the end of the day I am fatigued from inhabiting/being a cedar closet all day. I really have to be in a particular mood, and perhaps it has to be a very particular kind of day/weather, to spray that one on.
Not a lot of these are accessible to me to get a smell (Dunhill century is now hard to track down lol). How much Cypriol note is in Le Labo Santal 33? Any of the new Aesop stuff got Cypriol notes?
Hi Mr Sebastian.. Good day to you.. ☺️👋🏻 Thanks for the video.. I really liked cypriol smell as specially on the Penhaligon’s Babylon parfums (because I owned one.. 😉) As for the notes for its own, comparing with the papyrus, they kinda similar except papyrus got these “edgy” smells (to me).. By the way, thanks again for a the video.. You are the best Mr Sebastian.. 😊👍🏻
Amo el aroma del cipriol , lo tengo en forma pura y me gusta olerlo sin ninguna otra nota agregada , el olor me transporta y me recuerda al lustra muebles marca Blem en especial.
FM promise still remains one of my best fragrances yet, if not the best! It's the cheapest of the desert gems collection but much better than the ridiculously pricey others in the collection...in my opinion 😀
Hi Sebastian, I would love to get your impressions of Nishane’s Musiqa Oud. Very beast mode with the Oud, cypriol, sandalwood, grapefruit; in your face sillage projection. Lasts for days!
Actually thinking back now I’ve gotten camphorous when it says nargamotha rather than cypriol so maybe that is a difference? Lots to learn! Thanks for the video :)

Also Cypriol is well blended in TauerSundowner

HA!
I wouldn't know the smell, having a hard time recognizing notes in fragrances but sounds as an interesting one ... 🌹
It's so good!
Great list and I enjoyed it and I'm going to try these fragrances and have a blessed night

I got lattafa the artist no 2, it is a copy of the promise. Oh my God, it is so good that I am in love with cypriol.
I got Nagarmotha oil at home. To me it smells like a very soft wood, black colored.
One of my favourite notes. Fell in love with it after sniffing Amouage Opus VI
OOH yes I see there are fans of this not very well known note! :)
Very interesting! At the moment I like Galbanum a lot, Cypriol is also something I love (Whispers at the library 🖤)

FM's Promise smells so bad to me when I smell it close up. From a distance it smells nice though. Maybe I'm just not at that level yet lol
I dont like the smell either.. it smells like mechanical work shop😏
Your topics are so great thanks a lot for the effort you put into these beautiful videos
I've been curious because I heard it's often used in oud accords
Oh yes! :)
Been very curious, thank you for answering my question.

Just a question. Where could I buy cypriol essential oil?

Scandal Gold - JPG, Ana Abiyedh- Lattafa
One of my favorite notes.Wonderful video brother.
AWESOME!! Hope all is well! :)
Could you talk about Nishane Afrika olifant? Animalic lovelyness. Reminds me of the civet note in the heart of older kouros.
OOH perhaps yes and soon! :)
Excellent video btw. 👍 I really like the note

Been wearing cdg's jaisalmer for years. Wanna try mixing it myself.. anyone have a breakdown of it?
Great Review Thank you 💥👍

Makes sense!!
Hi Sebastian,
I would love to get your impressions of Nishane’s Musiqa Oud. Very beast mode with the Oud, cypriol, sandalwood, grapefruit; in your face sillage projection. Lasts for days!
Hopefully soon!!
Dunhill century is so nice and very potent. A sleeper.
How close is Dunhill Icon vs Dunhill Century ~ Would it be redundant to own them both⁉️
Not close at all to me. They are different. To me Century is like a Neroli Citrus Floral version of Santal 33! :)
@@ThePerfumeGuy thank you 🔥🔥
Shem is gorgeous indeed
Thanks for sharing because it keeps popping up now 3-2-2022👍🏽👍🏽
You bet
Love your contents 👍
I appreciate that!
I feel papyrus is mor smoky and cypriol is more on the aromatic side
This ingredient looks like nut sedge, a nasty invasive weed that pops up in my garden. I'll give it a sniff next next time I come across it.
It’s also in Xeryus
Pretty sure Amouage Journey Man also has cypriol...
It does I left it off cause I am speaking about Silver Oud! But you're good you know your Cypriol!! :)
I often get something camphorous from cypriol?
I can see this but not so much to me!!
Actually thinking back now I’ve gotten camphorous when it says nargamotha rather than cypriol so maybe that is a difference?
Lots to learn! Thanks for the video :)
The oil itself, smells like earth
I don't like cypriol when mixed with oud.
Oh no! :(
I dont know why Promise and Soul both smell quite familiar as the perfumer is the same Dominic Ropion.
Very interesting. I'll have to test side by side but I never got that! :)
@@ThePerfumeGuy do try it you will see at least i do find them similar if not very similar
Lets pause for a moment to mourn the end of Barneys
:(
Silver Oud has to be the worst scent ive ever experienced.
Yes it’s quite animalic.
Smells like Indian hair oil to my nose if it's too heavy in the notes 🤢🤮
Ha!! ;)
I do enjoy woody, earthy, dirty fragrances. Add some smoke & I'm in heaven. 🤎 Promise 💚
