cool video! i'm an artist and use the ipad pro 11 with procreate, but the lack of layers on big canvas is my main concern as to why i'm considering buying the cintiq. i will definitely still using the ipad since it's still an amazing tablet but i'm very interested in the cintiq. hopefully i like it

I’m a graphic designer and starting to focus on concept art more and more. I have 2020 Ipad pro and I’ll buy a macbook soon. So I’m really thinking to sell the Ipad and switch to cintiq at that point.

Could you please make an update about the pen pressure?
Is there any way to change the Apple Pencil pressure point? Everytime I draw while connected to my mac and using photoshop, I get faded lines and it’s not until, I press extremely hard that I’ll get solid lines. Any suggestions on how to change that?

Can you assign the double tap on the Pencil to toggle your pen control between the iPad and the MacBook screen? Does Sidecar even offer this function, as Wacom does?

Hello. For sculpting in Zbrush, which is better to take Wacom Cintiq 22 or Wacom Cintiq 16? Now I work on Intuos pro M and 4k monitor. There is also an iPad pro on m2 12.9 inches. I'm concerned about full HD resolution

Is the macbook you are using one with the latest M1 processors? Because I have read that sidecar performance is considerably better there.
Also, have you tried other apps like Astropad Studion / Duet Pro / EasyCanvas plus to see if the situation is better?
Hi! I'm not using a M1 MacBook, mine is one of the 2020 i7 models. I haven't tried any of the third party solutions you mentioned - I've heard that they handle pen pressure better but have a bit more latency/lag
Hi Devon, thanks for this video. I would like to know if Wacom Cintiq 16 is sufficient for line art? I mainly use Adobe illustrator and I have an iPad pro 12.9 but it’s a bit limiting for me. Should I pick the 22” cintiq or 16” is enough? Thank you!
The 16" will definitely be sufficient, but the bigger Cintiqs are fantastic if you have the desk space and don't need to travel with them. Just note that the 1080p on the Cintiq 22" is far from ideal
Biggest advantage of cintiq is the photoshop software for pc/mac, workflow is way faster, still i love drawing on both, specially when I want to rest my eyes, the ipad pro is better for lowering the light, since cintiq 16 doesnt have a good system to lower the light as much as it should to protect the eyes from long hours of drawing (although you can take breaks every 30 min and that kinda works well) awesome video!
Yeah, to be honest I'd also love to have a bit more control over the Cintiq 16's display
Hi! thanks for your detailed review! I m about to start classes at an animation school and choosing between macbook pro + ipad pro 2020 or wacom now. Do you know if TVPaint will work with Sidebar or Astropad?
Sidecar and Astropad just work as a second display/pen input, so TVPaint should work just fine!
Personally, I'd be leaning towards a Wacom for animation school though
But in all honestly, budget wise it's iPad Pro (I know, the term budget and Apple don't really match but since the release of their M1 chips price to performance is justifiable) if you have a decent PC then Cintiq but if you're looking for an all in one then iPad Pro is the way to go.
So even today the sidecar option still sucks?
i’m an animation student and was trying to use sidecar as a replacement for a drawing tablet but the ipad simply wouldn’t run correctly. when id draw, nothing would show up but if i moved it back to my main display, what i drew on the ipad showed up. so frustrating. i bought a cintiq 16 and it’s getting here tuesday

Hi, ive been wanting to upgrade from my ipad 8th gen to a cintiq 16 beause the former's screen size feels too small for me. I know the cintiq is larger than base ipad, but my concern is that since the cintiq has bezels then the vertical dimensions are reduced and it will be shorter. Even tho the ipad has smaller area, what i liked about it is that I can easily rotate the tablet around to it's longer side so I can draw longer lines. Is the cintiq's vertical measurement longer than the ipads? Coz if it's not i think it's not worht it since I can't physically rotate a cintiq (unless using a rotating ergotronic arm)
The Cintiq is definitely much harder to physically rotate! I use the iPad too and constantly switch orientations, but not with the Cintiq
Is this a Pro 2020? Can you use Adobe creative cloud with ipad pro?
Hi! In the video I'm using a 2018 iPad Pro, but not much has changed in the newer versions. When used in Sidecar mode, the iPad is just a secondary display with Apple Pencil support so it will run whatever your Mac can run, including the Adobe Creative Cloud apps
I know you wrote on title that it was using sidecar in this comparison, but I think it’s kinda unfair to compare ipad with cintiq as a pc extension,that function is rather intended for the ipad for work as a external display rather then a external drawing tablet so it’s expected that it does feel as natively support as a real external drawing tablet . the ipad is a tablet on its own and the clip studio paint’s ipad version works really well it’s literally the same desktop version on ipad with more native touch support like 2 finger tap undo 3 for redo long press pick color and of course zoom and move etc. Still, great video :)
Fair points! I do agree with you that the iPad Pro is a great standalone tablet. However, there aren't any good native apps for animation (yet), so I think it's still worth taking a look at Sidecar 🚙
hello...i was wondering which graphic tablet (either cintiq 16 or ipad pro 4th generation with apple pencil 2) would be better in terms of having the most accurate writing and diagram drawing. I have lots of chemistry/health lecture notes I want to go paperless with and i'm wondering which would give the closest and cleanest strokes to actual pencils/pens. Thanks
The iPad is perfect for note taking! I use it all the time for notes, planning, brainstorming, mind maps, etc

I use a paper like screen protector for my 12.9" iPad pro. The screen protector makes drawing feel a lot better on the iPad.
Do you know if there's a way for me to use my iPad with my windows computer?
I love the Paperlike screen protector too!
Some of the other commenters have suggested sing Duet, Luna Display, or Astropad for connecting the iPad with a Windows computer
this was a great and super helpful video, my Cintiq has been having massive issues and really only functions as a monitor now. in your experience has the iPad pen pressure with sidecar improved in your experience?
It hasn't improved too much, I used it recently for some basic work and it did okay but nowhere near Cintiq's standards

Interesting, I had many doubts about what to buy, I think I'm getting wacom, but could you post the link to get the box for cables? The amount of them is one of the handicaps of this device in my opinion

I'm using ipad (air not pro) but as for me it's screen has too high contrast. When I'm watching my works from ipad on my monitor (and i have rather good monitor) they always seem to be too dark and I havet to make some color corrction. I'm thinking about switching to wacom and maybe it's even a positive thing that it has darker screen with smaller contrast
You can change the Colour Profiles on most monitors. You might be able to tweak your monitor to match your iPad. Worth looking into 🙌🏻
Apple locked up my iPad after I lost my login ID (long story). It left me with a very negative opinion of Apple, although I did like the Apple Pencil. Then I tried the XP-Pen. The pen itself disappointed me. Not to give up, I recently ordered the Cintiq 16, based partially on your comments. I'm looking forward to trying it out next week. You cover the points that are most important to me, and you come to the conclusions that I suspected were true. Thanks.

when using Cintiq 16 with a monitor replicating the cintiq, will I be able to see the cursor on both the devices? I am asking this because I would want to be able to use it like an intuos from time to time
Yes, you can see the cursor on both monitors when using your Cintiq as a mirrored display. I like to do the same thing! I've got another video comparing the Cintiq and Intuos where I talk about this

Also, I have a wacom intuos medium, will I be able to use both those tablets, or will I have to uninstall the drivers of the Intuos to install the cintiq?
@@lostbrothers100 I have a Cintiq 16 and an Intuos Pro M that I swap between sometimes. The Wacom Desktop app automatically switches drivers, no need to install/uninstall anything 💪🏼
@@devonkong Hi one more question 🙈. So in the screen mirroring mode of the cintiq 16. If I connect it with a 4K monitor, will that functionality still work correctly? Considering that the cintiq is 1080p
@@lostbrothers100 You'll have to pick between using a 1080p or 4k setup. I used the 4k setup, which meant more screen real estate - but really small details sometimes couldn't be seen on the Cintiq. Alternatively, you could go with the 1080p setup. But that means things will appear large (but still very sharp) on the 4k monitor, and normal on the Cintiq

Man I like your video but I seriously want to do professional level animation like anime. I am going to be a medical student but I also wanted to be a youtuber animator as I love drawing.
Can you please suggest me what should I buy for complete animation and video editing . And also please mention which software is better for animation ? Should I buy macbook or pc ??
As I am a medical student I am thinking of buying an ipad pro as it is more handy for both note taking and as I also want to do animation on it.
So I am thinking that in future I will buy macbook or pc and will use the ipad as a secondary display.
And for now I want a device for both note taking, animation , and video editing so I think I should go for ipad as now I can't afford macbook with wacom.

Hi Tausif! The iPad Pro is a great device, but doesn't currently have apps for professional level animation. Both the Macbook and PC will work fine for animation - it's just personal preference here! I personally use a Macbook. Wacom does an entry level tablet at about $50 USD (One by Wacom). I actually used something very similar when I started, so that could be worth considering!
How much worse are the screens? I know the resolution is FHD on the cintiq but do the colors really that bad? Do you notice any parallax? I usually draw on my 12.9 inch 2017 ipad pro, and I like it lot. I would like to get a new one, but I am at a point where I am thinking about getting a cintiq instead. I am just not sure if this cintiq 16 would be a worthwhile upgrade or maybe I should just wait, save up and get the cintiq 16 pro? While I love my ipad, the price of the newer devices are absolutely insane in my country, and I don't like that they made the size of the 12.9 inch smaller either. Plus it would literally cost more than 1600 USD just to replace everything, pen, ipad, case, etc. so I am not too keen on it.
The cintiq 16 pro is only a little bit more expensive than rebuying everything ipad related that's why I thought maybe I should get that. However maybe I don't need that, maybe the Cintiq 16 is enough. I would keep my 2017 ipad pro maybe replace the screen and the battery and use that when I am not home. It is a solid device. I think I can get a few more years out of it easily. I was also looking at Wacom alternatives, but I found some comparisons and the pen is just not comparable.
The display yes, some Xp-pen and Huion models have much better screens, but the pen and the build quality is lacking, even compared to an ipad pro. I don't know. What do you suggest? Get a new ipad, get a cintiq 16 or wait a few months, save up and get the cintiq 16 pro? How do you like the size? is 16 inch enough? Thank you! nice video!
Hi! The Cintiq 16's screen is noticeably not as good as the iPad's, but 90% of the time it doesn't bother me. What software are you drawing with? If you're using native iPad software like Procreate or Affinity, you'll get a similar drawing experience on both tablets. If you're using Sidecar with your iPad, the drawing experience on the Cintiq is much better.
I haven't used Wacom alternatives much so I can't say much about them. As for the Cintiq 16 Pro, I was really tempted to get that instead of the Cintiq 16 because of USB-C and the 4K display, but I've heard from some animation buddies that dead pixels start appearing on the screen after a year or so of use - and I've seen that same issue in many online reviews.
@@devonkong thank you, so overall the cintiq 16 is a good option? because I think I rather not spend 2000 usd on the pro, just to have 4k display. how noticeable are the pixels? FHD for 16 inch is probaly fine right? I am using a native yes software. the decision is to stick with the ipad and later get a new one, not cheap, or get a cintiq 16 for home use and maybe refurbish my 2017 ipad that would be considerably cheaper, I am just not sure if this is a upgrade. well the ipad screen is pretty good, the pencil too, but I would like to try and learn PC programs and I wouldn’t mind having a bit larger screen either. I have to disagree with some of the points on the ipad and in general was not impressed with your review. You compared it's pen pressure for when connected to a computer which I agree is terrible but when using it on clip studio as just the ipad it's amazing. Palm rejection shouldn't be happening if you turn off the setting that allows you to draw with your hand. I disagree that the touch features are not that great. Rotating, colour selecting, undo/redo and drag are all great touch features. Also the ipad is much less bulky. Now you also said the wacom feels better to draw on compared to the glossy screen but you should be comparing it when it has the drawing screen protector on it... Also I don't recall you mentioning anything about parallax which is a very important thing to note. I get that it was a sidecar review but my other points still stand.

I tried ipad, maybe it was the program but, honestly i love the cintiq, i feel its the closest thing to traditional feel
