Back in 1989 I bought a 69 RT/SE 440 auto, running and driving, for $1500. It was rescued from Pick'N'Pull in Sacramento. I also bought a 70 GTO, 400 4 speed for $1500. Ah! Those were the days!
In 1980 I bought a 69 R/T for $50. The guy wanted $75 but couldn't find the title so we settled on $50. Now it wasn't a running car by any means. The intake manifold had been off of it for a while and the hood must've been up because there was water in a couple of the cylinders. I would give about anything to have that car back. It looked identical to that red 69 with the black top, interior and tail stripe car but was a real R/T.

In 85 my dad bought a 68 charger r/t 440 magnum and 727 auto with suregrip rearend for 2300 bucks. It was his daily driver though the 80s and 90s. First thing he done was put a 4 speed in it. It still runs strong! I've owned it for 20 years now.
Wow, this tops my friend who has like 5 of these. Most were 68s, i believe 1 69. This guy is a great collector. He appreciates the cars and the history, and doesnt pass up the ones that are weathered or flawed. And he drives them!
Seen Junkerup youtube channel. Chris Birdsong who is now on Roadkill Garage on Motortrend owns maybe 30 Chargers of all conditions. Rebuilds them from scratch also. i mean he picks apart the spot welds to a bare skeleton and rewelds every panel back on if needed, He rebuilt Roadkills General Mayhem

Badass! You aren't kidding on finding 440's. I have one for my 66 Satellite, and since I bought it, I've only seen a handful, and they're always $1500 and up. Also, any 67 and later 727 will work, but if it came from the motorhome, it'll have the wrong tailshaft on it. (It won't have a slip yoke). I'm looking forward to see which direction this car goes!

I'm a old scriber I watch the numbers go up every week because everyone wants to take their car to the strip even if it's just a scocker van and they put a bigger exhaust.it was always a dream for me to break 9 but here I am at 83 still watching someone else living my dream.keep up the videos
Nice...this guy is a Charger guy!!! I was him back in the day - loved them before they were popular.... I had 5 68s over the years, never paid more than $500 for any of them, and all big block cars. I found wrecked ones and stripped all their parts- collecting enough parts to build 4or more... Oh those were the good ol days, the 80s and early 90s!!! Now, im just hoping to get one more before I die!!!😊
Just watched one of your other videos about financing classic cars, was very informative! But I commented on having a 68 charger as my first car back in 79! Boy if that car could talk, the fun me and my high school girlfriend had with that!! You two are making me feel 18 or 19 again !! The car and the girl are gone but the memories are there till I die!! Cool Car!! Aluminum slotted would look cool on that bad boy!! Your doors are from a 69 the lock buttons were moved foreword that year due to complaints the 68 were hard to reach seated in the front. Can’t wait to see the build.

Congratulations! One of the most beautiful cars ever designed! That and the 1969 Coronet, Super Bee and RT. I had a 69 Super Bee so I'm biased. I'd get a couple black, nascar style wheels in the front to match the rears!
Nice video. Regarding the bodyside moulding, I worked in a body shop in the 1980's and installed a ton of it. It was a rivet on molding, most was this narrow width but also came in wider version. you would purchase lenghts of track and tips, cut to size and install. Was a quality product with aluminum track and came in black also. You would then install plastic inser that came in many colors. Had to make sure to cut insert longer and force it in or else would shrink in cold weather.
I just stumbled across your video. I normally don't comment on thing's but just wanted to say how happy I am for you both. The second generation Charger is the greatest looking car, IMO. I own a 1970 and these cars are the greatest! Have fun and Enjoy! 😊
Awesome Find! I also LOVE the 68 tail lights! I love these late 60's chargers. In high school back in the early seventies a kid had one and it was green with a black vinyl top. He easily would sit and burn his tires with the line-loc on the front. He'd make smoke until you couldn't see the car. I loved the looks of that car then, and still do now at 65. I had a 73 Javelin AMX 401 in black and man do I wish I still had that car. I sold it when I got engaged at 19 and my now wife of 45 years couldn't drive a stick. The guy that bought it ran head-on in it about a week later killing himself and totalled the car. It was so sweet too. I had built a new 401 for it, added beautiful side pipes, slapper bars and N50 x 15 rear tires on 10" Cragar spoke wheels and 5" skinny's on the front. I'll be watching this project for sure. I can tell you for a fact back in the early seventies, in high school, there were an extraordinary number of green cars on the road. Cudas, Camaros, Novas, Road Runners, Chargers, Chevelles and Firebirds all some shade of a dark green.
Another nifty note the 68-69 charger were designed from a coca cola bottle that tipped over on the designers drawing table as the story has been told....if you can get an old coke bottle (glass) stand 20-30 feet away with the bottle on it sine in your hand the body contour is the bottle.......try it out 😉

In 1990 I bought a 1970 road runner, for $1500, it was raced all summers so it lived in a garage in the winter, the lower quarters looked like yours, it had no carpet and only 2 front seats from a Monte Carlo, high back buckets, floors were perfect, frame and the rest of the undercarrage, was only surface rust, it was an original white car with burnt orange interior, original air grabber, which was still on it and working, burnt orange interior was not stock, it had to be ordered that way, 383, 727 trans, it had a screaming 383 in it with open headers, and the wheel wells were cut out for the headers. I drove it around the block a few times while I was doing body work on it. I painted it Limelight, put on a rear spoiler, had the hood properly striped for the air grabber, bought new BFG`s and Cragars for it, new h pipe dual exaust with flowmasters, to make a long story short, I ended up divorced, to much time working on the car, I guess, the interior was not done except new carpet, the old door panels, and the 2 monte buckets, the outside looked brand new, I had to sell it in 1999, and the best offer I could get was $4,500, these cars were still cheap then, I bet it`s worth 60k just the way it sits todayit still makes me sick today, Mopar anything is through the roof today, love the videos.
In 1969 there were 2 different 440 Options, the common 440 and then there was a High Performance 440, the Teal color was used on the regular 440, the High Performance 440 was painted the same color as the 426 Hemi. Also on that White Charger, the molding running along the side of the vehicle was a dealer specific add on.
Have always loved late '60s / 70's Chargers. That'll be a great project. Especially doing it as a resto - mod so you can build it the way you want. With that train of thought in mind, maybe build some Bow - Tie big power for under the hood. Maybe go with a fuel injected big block , or a forced induction LS fire breather. that trim was installed at dealer by vender not a dodge option. it has a rubber insert with aluminum rail sweet it really worked well it was a big thing in used cars .
I’ve bought one back in 1979 while I was working at a full service Exxon gas station in Dallas from a married couple that were going through a divorce it was the dark forest green with dark green interior and a black vinyl top 383 two barrel auto console with the magnum 500 style rims white wall tires those dangerous bias make tires man those were dangerous in wet weather lol. The accepted $1,500 cash … not sure why I’m saying all this nobody would believe me nor care lol but it’s a true story just the same… wonder where on earth it could have gone .. people asking stupid money now for them now you gotta be super wealthy now and people totally junk them out with dumb crap… sorry so long just wanted to share anyway… love mopar classic’s 🤘👊

Great charger. I have one too. It is a green 68 charger RT. I also know it is hell getting parts. I have a few parts like an instrument cluster and other things you didn't mention . Man back in the 80's I had cars that if I had them today I could retire. I had a 69 Camaro, 66 Ford Pick Up, 62 62 series Caddy convertible, 58 Ford Truck and my buddy was trying to sell me his 70 Chevelle for $800.
Almost any wheels would look good on a Charger, but the Magnum 500 wheels (like what's on the front) look really nice on these. But even plain black rims with the little poverty caps look good.

A staggered set of Keystone classic mags, some spring shackles and hi-jackers would DEFINITELY bring back the period correct look of this charger!! 😁 And we all know Chrysler product always look good with a clean set of keystone mags!!! 😉 ..... Even the Dodge Tradesman vans!!! Lol
Very nice. My first car was a 1974 dodge charger. Dark green interior, light green exterior, white vinal top. I removed the vinal it was in bad shape. 318 , automatic. I most definitely dukes of Hazzard that car. Wish I still had it.
I grew up in Ireland, if a High School kid wanted to drive that car they would have had to sell their entire family to afford the insurance for one year let alone the fuel bills. Amazing.
*Wheels* - I'm partial to Motor Wheel Corporation like the ones on the front right now. I bought a set for my 1965 Corvair Corsa Turbo in 1966 to increase the wheel size from the standard 13" to 14". Loved those wheels.
Restore it and make it look nice. If you “off-road” it, you’ll end up wrecking it even more. This is why “The Dukes of Hazzard” used and wrecked 250 Chargers during the original filming. We need these cars restored before there are none left.

If y'all score a smog 440 you know those have way below deck level pistons so if you can't upgrade piston just a bit of OG knowledge but some 1967 CLOSED chamber 383 440 heads will raise CR a full point so it can get it out of the 7. Something:1 range ..just in case ya can find any. The 68 69 70 906 heads are same chamber more less as smog 452 heads. They both respond well to bowl porting on small valves. Did some 452 stock valve heads and gained like 50 cfm on them flowed 270 on intake and almost 200 exhaust. Cool 😎 car. Congrats
This year I’ve had my ‘72 u code rallye for 20 years… but I grew up with my dads 70 charger. Man that body style certainly is the best. Long live the barn finds and luck!
Nice Mopar! I have a 67 440 short block stock fresh, new set stealth aluminum heads, nice new rockers,cam, intake distributer, oil pan, etc. Plus a clean 727 with a new 2800 stall converter, flex plate, a whole package in Camarillo, Ca $6k
I had a '68 Dodge Charge, gold with gold interior, bucket seats console in the middle with the 1-2-3 trans. It had a 383 cu and the speedometer read 160 mph. It was really nice.
I had a dark green used 69 charger in high school in the 70's. I think it had the 318 under the hood. It was in pretty rough shape and I think the old man paid a few hundred bucks for it which I had to pay him back. It got me around town. It's crazy what these things are worth nowadays. In fact I think of all of the cars I had back in those days and what they are worth now it blows my mind. After the charger I had a 1965 Chevy impala which I blew the motor. 1965 Ford falcon 3 speed on the column, that I rolled. 1970 Chevy suburban that I blew the motor. 1970 Pontiac Catalina that someone stole from me and wrecked. 1975 Chevy Monte Carlo that I sold, 1975 Pontiac grand prix that I sold, 1977 Chevy van that looked like the A-team van and 1981 Trans Am in Candy apple red. I've owned several more vehicles after those but they wouldn't be classics. Now I drive a 2022 Mazda CX-9 carbon edition. My heydays are gone but at least I got to experience all of those muscle cars. Enjoy your cars while you can.

I don't recall ever seeing body side molding on a Charger like was on the white one and I was 17 yrs old when they came out. My guess is it's a generic aftermarket item. I don't think Chrysler would have installed it over the R/T bumblebee stripe like that one was done. A friend in high school had a new 1968 Charger R/T dark green with a black vinyl top & interior and white bumblebee stripe and red-line tires. Good luck with your project
On my '69 long ago I ran 15x7 up front and 15x8.5 rear Outlaw II wheels with 225/70's up front and 275/60's out back. Chargers look better with more sidewall filling up those wheel wells. You can go with a similar setup but on 16's for better handling. Just please don't do big wheels with weenie tires. I just snagged my 440 and 727. Gonna revive a '68 Coronet. It's a 318 car like my Charger was, but this time I want that 440! Kinda snagged a unicorn. It was an industrial 440 hooked to a generator. The hour meter showed just 9hrs! The cam barely has a scuff pattern on it, so that backs up the run time. Not many of those out there. If you can't find a 440, do consider a 413. It's a great torquey engine in the same family and can often be had for a song. My 727 is a '66 unit originally fitted to a 361 big block. According to the numbers, it has the high upshift governor, and being a pre'71 model, it lacks part throttle kickdown, which is what my prior smallblock 727 was. I found that I actually preferred that when coupled with the stage 2 B&M shift kit, which allowed full manual or full auto function. In my other stuff part throttle kickdown is fine, but the way I drove that car, and the way I will drive this one, I only want full throttle kickdown. Good luck with your quest. Maybe we will meet on the road one day. Oh, and thank you for getting another Charger back on the road.
The moulding down the car was a dealer installed option for shopping carts and door dings if you take a shopping cart and put it up to the moulding it keeps the cart from dinging the panels and chipping paint...... and no 68-69 charger's came with a "tuff" wheel steering wheel."tuff wheels" were not available till 1970.nice collection of chargers they are so hard to find a parts are also hard and or expensive but need to be brought back keep the car culture alive and the Mopars are hard to get because they were not as mass produced as Chevy and Ford's....👍👌✌️
The first thing I would do, is to take it to a frame shop, to see how bad the frame is bent. Race car = bent frame. If you look hard enough, this was a Frankenstein car. Its worth is the sum of parts, a carcus, and the title. This is becoming all to common.

I have a 383 2 bbl with a 727 automatic if you want to drive to North Dakota to get it, lol! I'd sell it cheap ($500 for the whole thing), it's pretty much complete, but the engine sat for a long time and is stuck so it would need an overhaul probably.

I had built a new 401 for it, added beautiful side pipes, slapper bars and N50 x 15 rear tires on 10" Cragar spoke wheels and 5" skinny's on the front. I'll be watching this project for sure. I can tell you for a fact back in the early seventies, in high school, there were an extraordinary number of green cars on the road.
Cudas, Camaros, Novas, Road Runners, Chargers, Chevelles and Firebirds all some shade of a dark green.
Another nifty note the 68-69 charger were designed from a coca cola bottle that tipped over on the designers drawing table as the story has been told....if you can get an old coke bottle (glass) stand 20-30 feet away with the bottle on it sine in your hand the body contour is the bottle.......try it out 😉

In 1990 I bought a 1970 road runner, for $1500, it was raced all summers so it lived in a garage in the winter, the lower quarters looked like yours, it had no carpet and only 2 front seats from a Monte Carlo, high back buckets, floors were perfect, frame and the rest of the undercarrage, was only surface rust, it was an original white car with burnt orange interior, original air grabber, which was still on it and working, burnt orange interior was not stock, it had to be ordered that way, 383, 727 trans, it had a screaming 383 in it with open headers, and the wheel wells were cut out for the headers. I drove it around the block a few times while I was doing body work on it. I painted it Limelight, put on a rear spoiler, had the hood properly striped for the air grabber, bought new BFG`s and Cragars for it, new h pipe dual exaust with flowmasters, to make a long story short, I ended up divorced, to much time working on the car, I guess, the interior was not done except new carpet, the old door panels, and the 2 monte buckets, the outside looked brand new, I had to sell it in 1999, and the best offer I could get was $4,500, these cars were still cheap then, I bet it`s worth 60k just the way it sits todayit still makes me sick today, Mopar anything is through the roof today, love the videos.
In 1969 there were 2 different 440 Options, the common 440 and then there was a High Performance 440, the Teal color was used on the regular 440, the High Performance 440 was painted the same color as the 426 Hemi. Also on that White Charger, the molding running along the side of the vehicle was a dealer specific add on.

Compared to most Chargers people are buying that's in great shape! Check out the kinda Mopars Birdsong buys, lol.
Have always loved late '60s / 70's Chargers. That'll be a great project. Especially doing it as a resto - mod so you can build it the way you want. With that train of thought in mind, maybe build some Bow - Tie big power for under the hood. Maybe go with a fuel injected big block , or a forced induction LS fire breather.

that trim was installed at dealer by vender not a dodge option. it has a rubber insert with aluminum rail sweet it really worked well it was a big thing in used cars .

I’ve bought one back in 1979 while I was working at a full service Exxon gas station in Dallas from a married couple that were going through a divorce it was the dark forest green with dark green interior and a black vinyl top 383 two barrel auto console with the magnum 500 style rims white wall tires those dangerous bias make tires man those were dangerous in wet weather lol. The accepted $1,500 cash … not sure why I’m saying all this nobody would believe me nor care lol but it’s a true story just the same… wonder where on earth it could have gone .. people asking stupid money now for them now you gotta be super wealthy now and people totally junk them out with dumb crap… sorry so long just wanted to share anyway… love mopar classic’s 🤘👊

Great charger. I have one too. It is a green 68 charger RT. I also know it is hell getting parts. I have a few parts like an instrument cluster and other things you didn't mention .

Man back in the 80's I had cars that if I had them today I could retire. I had a 69 Camaro, 66 Ford Pick Up, 62 62 series Caddy convertible, 58 Ford Truck and my buddy was trying to sell me his 70 Chevelle for $800.
Almost any wheels would look good on a Charger, but the Magnum 500 wheels (like what's on the front) look really nice on these. But even plain black rims with the little poverty caps look good.

But then again..... A staggered set of Keystone classic mags, some spring shackles and hi-jackers would DEFINITELY bring back the period correct look of this charger!! 😁

Very nice. My first car was a 1974 dodge charger. Dark green interior, light green exterior, white vinal top. I removed the vinal it was in bad shape. 318 , automatic. I most definitely dukes of Hazzard that car. Wish I still had it.
I grew up in Ireland, if a High School kid wanted to drive that car they would have had to sell their entire family to afford the insurance for one year let alone the fuel bills. Amazing.

*Wheels* - I'm partial to Motor Wheel Corporation like the ones on the front right now. I bought a set for my 1965 Corvair Corsa Turbo in 1966 to increase the wheel size from the standard 13" to 14". Loved those wheels.

Restore it and make it look nice. If you “off-road” it, you’ll end up wrecking it even more. This is why “The Dukes of Hazzard” used and wrecked 250 Chargers during the original filming. We need these cars restored before there are none left.

If y'all score a smog 440 you know those have way below deck level pistons so if you can't upgrade piston just a bit of OG knowledge but some 1967 CLOSED chamber 383 440 heads will raise CR a full point so it can get it out of the 7. Something:1 range ..just in case ya can find any. The 68 69 70 906 heads are same chamber more less as smog 452 heads. They both respond well to bowl porting on small valves. Did some 452 stock valve heads and gained like 50 cfm on them flowed 270 on intake and almost 200 exhaust. Cool 😎 car. Congrats

This year I’ve had my ‘72 u code rallye for 20 years… but I grew up with my dads 70 charger. Man that body style certainly is the best. Long live the barn finds and luck!
Nice Mopar! I have a 67 440 short block stock fresh, new set stealth aluminum heads, nice new rockers,cam, intake distributer, oil pan, etc. Plus a clean 727 with a new 2800 stall converter, flex plate, a whole package in Camarillo, Ca $6k
I had a '68 Dodge Charge, gold with gold interior, bucket seats console in the middle with the 1-2-3 trans. It had a 383 cu and the speedometer read 160 mph. It was really nice.

I had a dark green used 69 charger in high school in the 70's. I think it had the 318 under the hood. It was in pretty rough shape and I think the old man paid a few hundred bucks for it which I had to pay him back. It got me around town. It's crazy what these things are worth nowadays. In fact I think of all of the cars I had back in those days and what they are worth now it blows my mind.
After the charger I had a 1965 Chevy impala which I blew the motor. 1965 Ford falcon 3 speed on the column, that I rolled. 1970 Chevy suburban that I blew the motor. 1970 Pontiac Catalina that someone stole from me and wrecked. 1975 Chevy Monte Carlo that I sold, 1975 Pontiac grand prix that I sold, 1977 Chevy van that looked like the A-team van and 1981 Trans Am in Candy apple red.
I've owned several more vehicles after those but they wouldn't be classics.
Now I drive a 2022 Mazda CX-9 carbon edition. My heydays are gone but at least I got to experience all of those muscle cars. Enjoy your cars while you can.

I don't recall ever seeing body side molding on a Charger like was on the white one and I was 17 yrs old when they came out. My guess is it's a generic aftermarket item. I don't think Chrysler would have installed it over the R/T bumblebee stripe like that one was done. A friend in high school had a new 1968 Charger R/T dark green with a black vinyl top & interior and white bumblebee stripe and red-line tires. Good luck with your project
On my '69 long ago I ran 15x7 up front and 15x8.5 rear Outlaw II wheels with 225/70's up front and 275/60's out back. Chargers look better with more sidewall filling up those wheel wells. You can go with a similar setup but on 16's for better handling. Just please don't do big wheels with weenie tires. I just snagged my 440 and 727. Gonna revive a '68 Coronet. It's a 318 car like my Charger was, but this time I want that 440! Kinda snagged a unicorn. It was an industrial 440 hooked to a generator. The hour meter showed just 9hrs! The cam barely has a scuff pattern on it, so that backs up the run time. Not many of those out there. If you can't find a 440, do consider a 413. It's a great torquey engine in the same family and can often be had for a song. My 727 is a '66 unit originally fitted to a 361 big block. According to the numbers, it has the high upshift governor, and being a pre'71 model, it lacks part throttle kickdown, which is what my prior smallblock 727 was. I found that I actually preferred that when coupled with the stage 2 B&M shift kit, which allowed full manual or full auto function. In my other stuff part throttle kickdown is fine, but the way I drove that car, and the way I will drive this one, I only want full throttle kickdown. Good luck with your quest. Maybe we will meet on the road one day. Oh, and thank you for getting another Charger back on the road.
The moulding down the car was a dealer installed option for shopping carts and door dings if you take a shopping cart and put it up to the moulding it keeps the cart from dinging the panels and chipping paint...... and no 68-69 charger's came with a "tuff" wheel steering wheel."tuff wheels" were not available till 1970.nice collection of chargers they are so hard to find a parts are also hard and or expensive but need to be brought back keep the car culture alive and the Mopars are hard to get because they were not as mass produced as Chevy and Ford's....👍👌✌️

The first thing I would do, is to take it to a frame shop, to see how bad the frame is bent. Race car = bent frame. If you look hard enough, this was a Frankenstein car. Its worth is the sum of parts, a carcus, and the title. This is becoming all to common.

I'd sell it cheap ($500 for the whole thing), it's pretty much complete, but the engine sat for a long time and is stuck so it would need an overhaul probably.
