I honestly like this interpretation of Sans. He's not some mega-depressed skeleton who only cares about his brother. This shows that Sans actually can be happy, and that he cares for characters other than Papyrus. This isn't something you can find often in fanmade Undertale content, so I'm glad that this portrays Sans in a good way.
i feel like a lot of people hyper-focus on the "bad time depressed" side of sans and forget that this man is a goofball who introduced himself with a WHOOPEE CUSHION 😂 not that the whole badass "i'm going to knock your lights out if you kill anyone" thing is bad.. it just gets old with the humorous facet of his character that's still there even in the genocide route that i simply don't see as often.
I feel like when most people think of Sans as a character, they think of Genocide Sans, the "Bad time" Sans, the "get dunked on," "burning in hell," Sans that puts you through a gauntlet of torment as he walks between the line of his own determination, and the despair that ultimately awaits him. But instead of turning that feeling into something that hurts others, he turns it into something that makes people happy, even if it's something as simple as a bad joke. Despite being haunted by the possibility of the world being reset, he still persists on making sure the people around him never have to feel that same level of despair. And you know what? He COULD live that life. If WE let him. He'd never be able know for sure how long the pasifict ending would remain set, but we could still fulfill Floweys wishes by letting Frisk and all their friends live their lives. Things COULD be like this. We don't have to get dunked on. No one has to die. Maybe all we need is a trombone playing skeleton whose brother can cook Italian, a dinosaur who can watch all the anime in the world with us, goat parents, and a fish who could bench press all of them. And Mettaton.
Your interpretation of Sans is so unbelievably realistic, subtle, and true-to-canon. A lot of people interpret him as this hardened, badass time traveler beaten down by life. And while that's partially true, he's also a humongous softie and a great friend (to more people than just Papyrus) in spite of all his laziness, and for you guys to make that the focus of Sans rather than the backburner has won me over. It captures the spirit of the pacifist run perfectly. And Steel's singing is fantastic as usual.
I once was unsure of this softer voice for Sans...now I can't imagine any other voice for him! It's subtle, sweet, and honestly very fitting. Almost everybody makes his voice deep and accented in a way. This softer, medium toned, slightly raspy voice allows for the emotion to be front and center and allow for good fluctuations depending on the situation without it sounding strained. For example, the deeper tones when he's serious or angry sound more natural. And if his voice pitched up from surprise or happiness, there wouldn't be as much strain and be more effective. This range gives Sans a chance to have layers to his character portrayal. Sounding comforting and laidback all the while. Like an older brother (which he is. ) Whoever thought of the idea to have Steel voice Sans...give them a medal.

Ahhhhhh! I had to listen very carefully when the "It's Raining Somewhere Else" part began, but then I relalized that Sans' voice was slightly reverbing. Then I looked again at the art and I noticed the vase of echo flowers on the piano! Good detail, that was very clever! Great job as always; this is one of my favorite songs from your series ;)
The lines at 1:49 ("knock 'em dead, knock 'em out like my life's a joke") and 3:09 ("tell bad jokes, through a door, laugh your fears away") really stand out to me. This is definitely my favorite song in the musical. It really shows Sans's relaxed, encouraging demeanor, while still subtly showing some of his real thoughts and fears. Sans is a really complex character, but I think that the lyrics mixed with the Steel's amazing singing really does him justice, and shows all of the layers of his character in one song. It's absolutely gorgeous, and it always manages to hit just as hard, no matter how many times I listen to it. The rest of the musical is great as well, but "It's Raining Somewhere Else" really shines for me.

"thanks to her, to promises and awful jokes, here you stand today" I like this line a lot. Many people misinterpret the original line of "You'd be dead where you stand" as Sans saying that the promise is the only reason he didn't kill us, but that doesn't make sense given his apathy. What he really means is that things would be harder for us if he didn't swear to protect us. Might not sound right with how lazy he is, but Sans is a mysterious guy. He could be helping more behind the scenes.
I don't have an essay for you guys today. I think the two songs here are very sweet and add more to this scene than how the game presented it. It's interesting to hear Sans' voice "float" like it will go deep, but then it'll go soft. It shows a good singer (I also wasn't a band kid so I don't think I'm a very good judge). Toriel's support in this song was just right. It was a Sans song featuring Toriel, which was a lovely combo. I'd love to hear them sing together in the future. (That's hats off to you M'lady Lindsay and M'lord Steel~ c:) Though I'd also like to see what would happen if Asgore and Toriel sang together. Hm... This is fairly close to an essay, so I think I'll save it for later. :3c Steel *always* does a beautiful job as Sans, but yeah, he really knocked it out of the park on this one. I've kinda mentioned it a couple times already, but Toriel's duet in this song was inspired because Steel did such a fantastic job on a solo version of this. I listened to it, went, "I totally want in on this". Well, also, it occurred to me that Toriel doubling up/dueting with Sans might add a little more, so. XD Thankfully, they let me chime in with that, and a duet was born! And I'm super SUPER pleased with the result. :3c I'd love to do more singing with Steel. There might even be a couple things in the works related to that (though likely not Musical-related). As for me and Daniel (Asgore).... well. :3c Don't you worry about whether or not that's going to happen. That's all I'll say on it. Hee hee hee~
Totally agree, one of the best things in this musical is the choice of the cast. The voices of every character fit perfect with them (I think we have already heard the voices of every major character), I really, really hope we can hear all of them singing together in Hopes and dreams.

Lili Cipher I think the moment you go down there to face her she has no intentions of destroying the door but she sprints down there to buy some time to talk to Sans instead. I think you can hear knocking on the door when you go down into the basement so he’s definitely there. Notice how when you get down there before the fight she’s facing the door?
I gotta say, Steel is the best Sans voice actor there's ever been. I know I've said it before, but my gosh, I know the process for picking one must've been harder than any just because of the popularity of the character, and Steel deserved to be the one who made it through. He hits every major beat for the character you need to have and does it with his own touch, all that wrapped in the fact that he's just so good at it too. Maaaaaajor props.
I would like to say after many rewatches of this I really appreciate your very cannonical representation of Sans, a lot of people seem to think he's 'super depressed badass time traveler who hates the main character' some fannon interpretations even putting him as much more depressed than Alphys who most likely was contemplating suicide (Undyne's discussion about their first meeting) and having him only like Papyrus, but this is really damn good he has very little to no animosity to Frisk like in game and isn't that sad about everything even with that slight laugh in "dishes a very very bad knock knock joke" part! Sans pretty obviously suffers from severe clinical depression, and the fact is while he doesn't "only like" Papyrus, his brother is his main concern, above all other things. In the neutral endings, all Sans cares about is whether or not his brother is alive. The Underground could be a glittery apocalypse dystopia but if Papyrus is alive, Sans doesn't CARE. And he cares about Toriel too. That being said, that doesn't mean he has to be downbeat all the time, and Steel definitely plays him off perfectly. He's just... content. Yeah, I love the little laugh in "dishes a very bad knock knock joke" too. And if the human is a pacifst, he warms to them really quickly! He definitely cares about Frisk, or at least comes to, and feels a protectiveness towards them. By this point in the story he definitely does.
You see why she was crying, was because Frisk JUST then left her, she thought Frisk was going to have the same fate as the rest. Sans teleported, they had their conversation, when he made the promise he looked over seeing the human. So, thinking that Frisk hurt her feelings he came up. He then realized that she was crying for the safety of the human. So, yeah you know wot happened next.
Sans has the most beautiful voice I have ever heard in my life. The combo of Sans and Toriel in this song is so beautiful and emotional. It makes me want to cry.

While I agree that having more of an emphasis on how chilling the "You'd be dead where you stand" could've worked wonderfully here, especially since it's so incongruent with the rest of the piece, I think I like that this song stays more peaceful and nostalgic. Thank you! :D

I never understood why Sans said, "Kid, you'd be dead where you stand", and have that creepy look on his face, even during a Pacifist run. Did Sans actually intend to kill Frisk, an innocent human child? I don't think Sans would hurt anyone unless he was wronged somehow, so I think Sans has met a human before, and that human killed someone he loved, maybe his mom, and Sans wanted revenge. But, he put aside his anger to keep his promise to Toriel. Eh, just a theory.

I've listened to this for the 2nd time and I've caught onto some details I didn't before. Just some small ones. I like how Sans is musically talented here for knowing how to play more than just the trombone! Guitar and piano too, bravo! And let's not forget the VA for him doing a stupendous job of portraying Sans in-song and dialogue, this performance may be his best yet! ;D This had a mini-duet with Toriel and had a unique way of telling the story behind their meeting. (while telling jokes in songs, which is different from any musical I've seen before. very impressive) Somehow even without the usual warning he gives you it's still implied that he knows about the human's potential to be good or bad. But rather than warning them not to stray Sans just hopes his song reached them in some way. That's what I got out of it anyways. Another grand performance for the record! This musical's got me excited to guess what's next and how awesome it will be. Looking forward to your next upload!

Just found this song. It uses the same leitmotif as Hopes and dreams. The chorus reminds me of the final day of school after the final exams to enter your next school/leave your old one behind. It’s raining and you just simmer down after all the chaos and success. I was expecting rap/pop, and then I get slow acoustic that sums up a big event, say like Sans’ time talking to the voice behind the door in the ruins(Toriel, for those reading who don’t know). This is actually one of my favourite songs now. Undertale musical is my favourite game song project ever :) it’s actually beautiful
i know this wasnt made to spring tears but i found myself weeping because listening to this brought back so many memories and listening to this after a bad day would make younger me smile with glee since undertale was her "new favourite thing" that she'd boast to anyone who'd listen. thanks for this wonderful project man.

For example when Toriel sends you messages and spends all the time with Sans, also the fact that when Asgore calls her "Tori" she doesn't like it, but with Sans she doesn't seem to have a problem, he's the only one who calls her that way apart from Asgore. Things like that make their friendship close, that's why people ship them. Conclusion, it is not probable, but it is possible. And please, let's respect the tastes of others without being rude 👌
The way Sans' voice cracks at 0:48 when he says "Always did" is an amazing detail, and really speaks to Sans as a character . Sans believes in Frisk, even though through living through No Mercy over and over again should make him overwhelmingly untrusting.

Your interpretation of Sans is so unbelievably realistic, subtle, and true-to-canon. A lot of people interpret him as this hardened, badass time traveler beaten down by life. And while that's partially true, he's also a humongous softie and a great friend (to more people than just Papyrus) in spite of all his laziness, and for you guys to make that the focus of Sans rather than the backburner has won me over. It captures the spirit of the pacifist run perfectly.
And Steel's singing is fantastic as usual.

I once was unsure of this softer voice for Sans...now I can't imagine any other voice for him!
It's subtle, sweet, and honestly very fitting. Almost everybody makes his voice deep and accented in a way. This softer, medium toned, slightly raspy voice allows for the emotion to be front and center and allow for good fluctuations depending on the situation without it sounding strained. For example, the deeper tones when he's serious or angry sound more natural. And if his voice pitched up from surprise or happiness, there wouldn't be as much strain and be more effective.
This range gives Sans a chance to have layers to his character portrayal. Sounding comforting and laidback all the while. Like an older brother (which he is. )
Whoever thought of the idea to have Steel voice Sans...give them a medal.

Ahhhhhh! I had to listen very carefully when the "It's Raining Somewhere Else" part began, but then I relalized that Sans' voice was slightly reverbing.

The lines at 1:49 ("knock 'em dead, knock 'em out like my life's a joke") and 3:09 ("tell bad jokes, through a door, laugh your fears away") really stand out to me. This is definitely my favorite song in the musical. It really shows Sans's relaxed, encouraging demeanor, while still subtly showing some of his real thoughts and fears. Sans is a really complex character, but I think that the lyrics mixed with the Steel's amazing singing really does him justice, and shows all of the layers of his character in one song. It's absolutely gorgeous, and it always manages to hit just as hard, no matter how many times I listen to it. The rest of the musical is great as well, but "It's Raining Somewhere Else" really shines for me.

I like this line a lot. Many people misinterpret the original line of "You'd be dead where you stand" as Sans saying that the promise is the only reason he didn't kill us, but that doesn't make sense given his apathy. What he really means is that things would be harder for us if he didn't swear to protect us.
Might not sound right with how lazy he is, but Sans is a mysterious guy. He could be helping more behind the scenes.

I think the two songs here are very sweet and add more to this scene than how the game presented it. It's interesting to hear Sans' voice "float" like it will go deep, but then it'll go soft. It shows a good singer (I also wasn't a band kid so I don't think I'm a very good judge).
Toriel's support in this song was just right. It was a Sans song featuring Toriel, which was a lovely combo. I'd love to hear them sing together in the future. (That's hats off to you M'lady Lindsay and M'lord Steel~ c:)

Steel *always* does a beautiful job as Sans, but yeah, he really knocked it out of the park on this one. I've kinda mentioned it a couple times already, but Toriel's duet in this song was inspired because Steel did such a fantastic job on a solo version of this. I listened to it, went, "I totally want in on this".
Well, also, it occurred to me that Toriel doubling up/dueting with Sans might add a little more, so. XD Thankfully, they let me chime in with that, and a duet was born!
And I'm super SUPER pleased with the result. :3c I'd love to do more singing with Steel. There might even be a couple things in the works related to that (though likely not Musical-related).
As for me and Daniel (Asgore).... well. :3c Don't you worry about whether or not that's going to happen. That's all I'll say on it. Hee hee hee~
Totally agree, one of the best things in this musical is the choice of the cast.
The voices of every character fit perfect with them (I think we have already heard the voices of every major character), I really, really hope we can hear all of them singing together in Hopes and dreams.

I gotta say, Steel is the best Sans voice actor there's ever been. I know I've said it before, but my gosh, I know the process for picking one must've been harder than any just because of the popularity of the character, and Steel deserved to be the one who made it through. He hits every major beat for the character you need to have and does it with his own touch, all that wrapped in the fact that he's just so good at it too. Maaaaaajor props.

I would like to say after many rewatches of this I really appreciate your very cannonical representation of Sans, a lot of people seem to think he's 'super depressed badass time traveler who hates the main character' some fannon interpretations even putting him as much more depressed than Alphys who most likely was contemplating suicide (Undyne's discussion about their first meeting) and having him only like Papyrus, but this is really damn good he has very little to no animosity to Frisk like in game and isn't that sad about everything even with that slight laugh in "dishes a very very bad knock knock joke" part! Thank you for your time
Sans pretty obviously suffers from severe clinical depression, and the fact is while he doesn't "only like" Papyrus, his brother is his main concern, above all other things. In the neutral endings, all Sans cares about is whether or not his brother is alive. The Underground could be a glittery apocalypse dystopia but if Papyrus is alive, Sans doesn't CARE. And he cares about Toriel too.
That being said, that doesn't mean he has to be downbeat all the time, and Steel definitely plays him off perfectly. He's just... content. Yeah, I love the little laugh in "dishes a very bad knock knock joke" too. And if the human is a pacifst, he warms to them really quickly! He definitely cares about Frisk, or at least comes to, and feels a protectiveness towards them. By this point in the story he definitely does.

I don't think Sans would hurt anyone unless he was wronged somehow, so I think Sans has met a human before, and that human killed someone he loved, maybe his mom, and Sans wanted revenge. But, he put aside his anger to keep his promise to Toriel.

I've listened to this for the 2nd time and I've caught onto some details I didn't before. Just some small ones.
I like how Sans is musically talented here for knowing how to play more than just the trombone! Guitar and piano too, bravo! And let's not forget the VA for him doing a stupendous job of portraying Sans in-song and dialogue, this performance may be his best yet! ;D
This had a mini-duet with Toriel and had a unique way of telling the story behind their meeting. (while telling jokes in songs, which is different from any musical I've seen before. very impressive)
Somehow even without the usual warning he gives you it's still implied that he knows about the human's potential to be good or bad. But rather than warning them not to stray Sans just hopes his song reached them in some way. That's what I got out of it anyways.
Another grand performance for the record! This musical's got me excited to guess what's next and how awesome it will be. Looking forward to your next upload!

Now I know he said this ages ago, but when Papyrus was singing, Sans interrupted with "That doesn't rhyme". Sans, you can't rhyme "Door" with "Door", and "Jokes" with "Jokes" Same goes for *almost the rest of the song*.
I don't like the deeper versions of Sans's voice. This one is perfect. Soft, Light And Beautiful.

Just found this song. It uses the same leitmotif as Hopes and dreams. The chorus reminds me of the final day of school after the final exams to enter your next school/leave your old one behind. It’s raining and you just simmer down after all the chaos and success. I was expecting rap/pop, and then I get slow acoustic that sums up a big event, say like Sans’ time talking to the voice behind the door in the ruins(Toriel, for those reading who don’t know). This is actually one of my favourite songs now. Undertale musical is my favourite game song project ever :) it’s actually beautiful
i just noticed while playing a true pacifist route, whenever sans voices toriel, sans talks in a higher pitch. such attention to detail.
i know this wasnt made to spring tears but i found myself weeping because listening to this brought back so many memories and listening to this after a bad day would make younger me smile with glee since undertale was her "new favourite thing" that she'd boast to anyone who'd listen.

It's raining somewhere is in my opinion, an underrated Sans song. And this musical shows the side of Sans presented through this song in the best way possible.

For example when Toriel sends you messages and spends all the time with Sans, also the fact that when Asgore calls her "Tori" she doesn't like it, but with Sans she doesn't seem to have a problem, he's the only one who calls her that way apart from Asgore. Things like that make their friendship close, that's why people ship them. Conclusion, it is not probable, but it is possible. And please, let's respect the tastes of others without being rude 👌

The way Sans' voice cracks at 0:48 when he says "Always did" is an amazing detail, and really speaks to Sans as a character . Sans believes in Frisk, even though through living through No Mercy over and over again should make him overwhelmingly untrusting.
