Hey guys! I've really slacked the past couple years, but I'm getting back to it! Stay tuned! Like my stuff but want MORE? Follow me on Instagram! @jonathankondor
I lost my whistle register at a young age around 9. my dad told me not to scream like a girl so I subconsciously destroyed it so he wouldn't ever have to say that to me again. (i tried to speak, laugh, and talk with a deeper voice; even before puberty). After that at around 16, I lost my falsetto after becoming very very sick with a terrible cold. years after now I'm 22 and I just now (after so much work) got the lowest register in falsetto back! and I am getting higher!! This exercise is unheard of for me and so I am very excited to use it for a while to see if I can get back what I lost. Thank you so much for sharing your educated ideas!
Gabrielle Marc Estandarte hahaha wow! yes I think there aren't many great male singers because of this being told to have a deep voice. let's face it, it's nice to listen to a upscale note ballad and boring to listen to a low note one. but if you *really* want the Mariah Carey tones, then keep at it! I'm reaching higher and higher registers by doing the exercises I find on the internet. for this exercise though, be aware you can also massage the muscles at the base of your neck that seem to connect to your shoulders called the trapeziouse muscles. this is where a lot of the strain was concentrated with me after execising these notes. massaging those relieved soo much strain and helped me to relax soooo much more than just massaging the neck. just thought I'd share 😀
It's actually hard in my opinion. I do have a whistle register up to E7 note (sometimes peaking F7) I was kind of struggling doing it because it was hard to control. It will take a lot of time. So, basically, what takes a lot of time is definitely hard to do.
Jethro Radcliffe same I’m 15 and I just started trying really, and I don’t even know if I’m doing a whistle but I think I am😂 but i can’t hold the note.. it’s like breaks off
Well, Tbh I first did it by accident while screaming because I thought something was funny, but It was forced and just bad. But it was a start. Just close your eyes take a deep breath and squeak as softly as you can (you might get some off-hey double-voice thing) but keep going, use more air to shapen it up!
You know what. I read this comment and tried what you said, and I actually ALMOST got to the whistle note!!! YAAAAY FINALLY. But, I forgot again, so I'm practicing again. More breath was what I was missing. :-)
Im glad it helped someone! 😆 After a while of practice iv'e gotten alot better. Some days It comes and goes but once you get it it's alot of fun to play around with. Something you can do is lightly sing as high as you can in falsetto/headvoice (starting low and working your way up). Once nothing but air comes out, keep going up as if you're singing higher and higher and don't stop the air flow! Let me know if it helps! 😁
I hit a c7 and accidently hit a d7. but it was very quick I think because I was shocked that I hit that high but now I'm struggling my comfort is E6- F6 straining I can get to A6 on a good day 😩. I think I need to stop forcing them 😧
wow! this is incredible! I can't believe I was able to hit above C6 after watching this tutorial! honestly, I have been clamouring to sing on whistle notes and today I have discovered an easier way! thank for this am very grateful. I can now sing on whistle register!
they were whistles too, if you dont feel the difference between flageolet and whistle then dont comment and misinform the folks. high faletto is bound to become weak his notes were strong ... they even sounded different
I didnt expect that this video was already 3years ago, after watching all of the whistle notes tutorial, your vid was kindly incredible, thankyousomuch its really effective!
I am a coloratura soprano with an extensive range, but I do have trouble tensing up in my upper register which sometimes limits my range. I may try this as a warm up routine. :)
Agreed! It's like when u first learn how to swim. The basic need is insane relaxation to stay afloat (to condition our vocal chords for the right opening). Wonderful explanation. I never shut up since I discovered that register lol.
wow thank you, that actually helps a lot. I have always had a really slight whistle register, and never knew a method to practice it. That really helps and works.
Today is the day that I FINALLY got this down! It's developing and I think before I wasn't pushing hard enough. You have to take a deep breath. Let's see if it gets better and develops :-)
Kendall A Heck yeah! That's actually a huge step in having a solid whistle register: when you have enough control over it to push harder or softer! That is really good to hear. It makes me so happy to know that I've been a real help to people just trying to fulfill their dreams. 😄
No problem at all. You have helped so many. The human voice has so much ability, and it's amazing to push the limits and have fun with it. By the way. Will you be making any new videos? It's been quite a while now. :-)
Guys guys....look.I was born with thyroid nodules like Mariah, and just to let you know when I was like 3 I could hit whistle notes but I stopped at 4 and after 13 years I can still hit notes those notes and believe it or not my vocal range is A0(lowest note)-B5(upper register/head voice/falsetto)-F#8(highest whistle note)
Also when you succesfully produce the note pay attention to your tongue placement and how relaxed your throat is keeping that in mind will help you control it better and then you will be able to move the notes back and forth like Mariah Minnie and Ariana and Adam lopez
Okay, so you've given more advice as to how get relaxed, but what I would like to know is what it should feel like, because I have heard about neutralizing your larynx, but what does how do you know when it's accomplished correctly
It works. It is crazy and hard to believe, but it works. Normally maximum I can reach only until G6, but after I watched this video, I reached A6! Thank you and GOD bless!
THANK U SO MUCH IT WORKS, i got my first real whistle few minutes before 💖 before that video i forced my voice for whistle and i was doing falsetto but now its more comfortable and definitely whistle. wow
I havent been able to harness my whistle register at all.... But I can say that I am a bass and I hit a C6 while doing a very forced falsetto, pushing very hard with my diaphragm... It was sorta painful but I was proud of myself.
Two of my friends had a strangest look on their faces when sang a few whistle octaves. It definitely had to be that I am a baritone/tenor. Practice, practice and more practice. I've been whistling since I was 12. I'm 56 today and can still hit a few. Good video especially the neck exercises.
All the videos and reads I have checked out have mentioned relaxation. Seeing this helps a lot! Thank you so much for this. I am about to confuse a lot of people LOL
A few months ago I was able to hit A#6 comfortably and hit B6-C7 on a good day but now my comfort is a F6 and good day G#6 I'm turning 18 in a month what do I do to go back to hitting the notes I used to or go even higher?
I love this. Thank you for posting. My issue isn't getting into it, it is staying relaxed. I do it for a bit then I can feel old muscle memory muscles trying to place me back into super head voice which I can do but its at the very top of that register. So I typically stop and try again. I will try this though and see if it works for me. Apparently voice coach's are afraid to teach this except for Brett Manning. Thanks again
I wanna see you singing a song with whistle, please make it. by the way, thanks for your ridiculous genius creative tips, I can whistle and its all becoz of you. I thougt that I will never can't reach notes above G#5 . but now.. yeah . thanks bro
It is really impressive that you are able to access whistle register with such a low speaking voice! I will have to try to do this exercise because sometimes I kind of whistle, but I don't know how I even do it, lol, and it doesn't even come out all the time, lol! 😅 I will have to try your exercise because obviously it works for you!
easy for me I learn it for long time with my favorite song Emotion by Mariah Carey but you doing good job it's good adia to practice my muscles thanks for Idia
Bush Nemenzo Haha, right?! That was the whole point of these videos: to show that I was just learning it, and to show others what really works! As you can clearly see in the first video, I couldn't actually do whistle notes before.... 🤣
I've been doing whistle notes for about three days, but they didn't sound that loud. Now I understand why, it's because my muscles where tense when thy should be relaxed. Thanks for uploading this video. If you have any tip to make the whistle notes to sound louder I'll appreciate it very much.😁😉
Well, as you said, relaxing will make it louder. Practice this exercise and focus on getting the sound to happen with the least amount of effort. Glad the video is helping, though! Enjoy, and let me know your progress! :D
Hey Jonathan great video and tip thanx man. I have a question for you..When your in the whistle register, where do yo feel the sound placed..Back of the throat, More in your head cavity or more forward placement like face area..looking forward to your response..thanx again
Personally, the sound doesn't seem to really have any "placement". It ends up being so light and pressureless that it just feels like my vocal cords are closed and not even vibrating.
Thnx buddy your advices were really helpful about whistle notes i was able to hit c#6 but i cant sing some of the lower notes in 5 th octave from D# to G. it will be very helpful for me if u suggest me solution to this problem
Well get this - my range is now E2 - C#8. If we break it down, its E2-A4 for chest/belts, A3-Eb6 for falsetto/head-voice and E6-C#8 for whistle. Though C#8 is pretty rare and I can't go to it, I have to slide into it. So I would actually say may comfortable range is F2-F#7. I guess I am lucky with the genetics for range, shame about my tone... :(
I was able to do whistle tones and very incredibly for a year but it took a while to acquire them. I stopped for a few months and developed my head voice and mixing but then I tried whistling but I can only do the warmup trills and I can't hold them like before. What can I do to be able to sing them again. All other areas of my voice improved.
What you've done is just developed a habit. This happens in every aspect of singing; when you focus on one thing for a long time and don't practice other parts of your voice to maintain flexibility, you will often lose your ability to do things. This is why a lot of people think that singing lower will make you lose your upper range, or vice versa. What you need to do now is start focusing on whistle tones while still exercising your head and mix. It's all about staying flexible while using proper muscles and technique.
It's not working haha, just go into head voice. And my limit is around b flat cause I'm a tenor. I stopped using falsetto so I lost a lot of range in it.
Youre awesome!!! Thank you. I discovered my whistle register in the same way. I have a question. Did a part of your falsetto disappeared (in the disappeared falsetto part are whistle notes) ?
I used to whistle as high as mariah careys emotions song, but I loved my whistles so much I overused them and I eventually lost them, I havent had a successful whistle in almost a year.. I tried alot but none worked, do I have vocal fatigue
Try doing it first thing in the morning, perhaps. Although not warned up, your neck and throat muscles will be relaxed, and they'll be prone to "cracking", which can sometimes help people flip up into whistle and start to get a feeling for how it works.
Jonathan Kondor Thanks! I've been trying for a little over a week; I can hear a little whistle in the back of my throat when I'm slowly pushing the air through my vocal's. Really not sure if I'm on the rite path.
This is not right. Our voices are designed to grow and especially for males unless you're a tenor or a counter-tenor you shouldn't even attempt to try these notes. There is so many different technological terms you can use when talking about the "whistle" register. Jonathan you said previously..."Try doing it first thing in the morning... Although not warned up, your neck and throat muscles will be relaxed, and they'll be prone to "cracking", which can sometimes help people flip up into whistle and start to get a feeling for how it works." This is probably one of the stupidest things I have ever heard EVER. Now I don't have a bachelor in Vocal Pedagogy but I DO know how to sing with GOOD technique YOU HAVE TO WARM UP OTHERWISE YOU CAN'T SING. I'm sure you guys are decent singers (maybe) but all these whistle tones are just party tricks. Soon if you keep putting strain on your voice you're going to loose it. Keeping in mind that you've also got to concentrate on your alignment, breathing, support and emotion. Can I please give you some advise from someone who really does know. STOP DOING IT. I'm a counter-tenor and not even I use/want to use whistle all the time. People like MK and AG are SOPRANOS and have the ability to GO HIGHER. Adam Lopez is another male COUNTER-TENOR who states not to do it if under an alto for females which basically means the majority of male singers. I'm not trying to have a go at you, I would just hate for this to be the way you ruin your vocals. Trust me please ?
OK. I didn't even watch the video but I just have and WTF. Like actually. DUDE I can hear so much tension in your voice its unreal. Firstly, vocal fry is a WARM DOWN ONLY you don't use it to relax your muscles. Secondly, you have absolutely NO SUPPORT because you're sitting down and then placing your elbows on your knees. AND THIRDLY, (this is probably the worst thing) you say to keep going after you tense up not to mention everything else you're doing wrong in this video like "tweaking" the sound of the note to go higher. Like I'm actually worried for you. When was the last time you went to an ENT? It's like after you attempt to "whistle tone" you find it hard to speak like you're restrained and you have to swallow roughly. THAT'S NOT GOOD. Just to re-state I'm not trying to hate on you I'm simply trying to help knowing from experience. And also there's no vibrato when you sing those notes. PLEASE TAKE THIS ADVISE
Hey guys! I've really slacked the past couple years, but I'm getting back to it! Stay tuned!

@jonathankondor
Jonathan Kondor it so hard. I been practicing for a while now and it still sound like a horn compared to a whistle
Why do you call yourself a low baritone? You’re a tenor, and not a low one
Will I able to sign higher and higher notes..because now it disappears pretty soon when I do this..
@@dredayetheridge how do you practice?
And what if when I do this nothing comes out? Does that mean I'll never be able to produce whistle tones?
I lost my whistle register at a young age around 9. my dad told me not to scream like a girl so I subconsciously destroyed it so he wouldn't ever have to say that to me again. Gavin McCune wait, u can lose ur falsetto?
eliezer yes you most definitly can. thats why
when some one tells you to not take something for granted, they mean it.
eliezer falsetto is when the vocal cords aren't connected and you hear only air.. that what he does on the video isn't falsetto
Whistle is not that hard like everyone thinks.
The hardest part is finding the right placement to produce the sound lol
Alberto Maracheski yeah that's just the point! u got it!
Alberto Maracheski I can't do it the baritone curse has overtaken me
True .. i had mine on my channel.. i found it last month
It's actually hard in my opinion. I do have a whistle register up to E7 note (sometimes peaking F7) I was kind of struggling doing it because it was hard to control. It will take a lot of time. So, basically, what takes a lot of time is definitely hard to do.

Now, these are actual whistles. In your other video, you were using high falsetto.
As he well stated in the description. (Y)
Those weren't falsettos . Those were whistles as well lmao .
But they were groaned. These were just more relaxed and proper.

HEYY thaaanks alot for this video it helped me alot ☺☺
I'm a baritone with a very basic range with lows to an E2 and a D6 in HV. I know I have whistle register because it's in my laugh.
I know i have mine too when i discovered a roach while taking my bath...
SilentAssassin01234 E2 - D6 is not a basic range whatsoever, especially if you use it properly
SilentAssassin01234 awwwh :/ well you can always make your tone special if you manipulate with your technique
カラ I'm working on it so we will see :)
Hope this works gotta get that Mike Patton range I can already get to a C1 so hope this give me some high notes
Ok my highest note is g6 i hope this help me to hit c7 or even moreeee
Littlemilkcat I hope so too! Just keep experimenting and practicing and you'll get there! :D
wow it works thank you :)
I've figured a thing out: After doing whistle register, it'll be harder for you to sing in head voice and falsetto. Interesting!
This practices help me cracked my whistle register hahaaa Thanks 🙏
It's not working haha, just go into head voice. And my limit is around b flat cause I'm a tenor. I stopped using falsetto so I lost a lot of range in it.
Youre awesome!!! Thank you. I discovered my whistle register in the same way. I have a question. Did a part of your falsetto disappeared (in the disappeared falsetto part are whistle notes) ?
Thank you! I'm glad I could help! If you're asking whether I lost range in my falsetto register, then no, I did not.
+Jonathan Kondor Than you for a very quick answer! :)
My pleasure. :)
I used to whistle as high as mariah careys emotions song, but I loved my whistles so much I overused them and I eventually lost them, I havent had a successful whistle in almost a year.. I tried alot but none worked, do I have vocal fatigue
Bravo !! 🔝💯
It actually works 😱
thanks for the video...But I can't do it..loool..I wanna know how..badly..
I'm also a bass/ baritone. My vocals seems so heavy trying to break into my WR. Are there any tips you can give me?
This also goes for anyone.
