I thought you were gonna mention Erlang Sheng. Sheng? Shen? But Erlang Sheng is a noble warrior god. It's been a while since I studied a bit of this, so I hope my memory serves me correctly. Sheng was the most powerful warrior the heavens had and was ordered by the king of the Chinese pantheon of gods to defeat Wukong. And boy, Wukong finally met his match. They would battle many a time with most matches ending in a draw. Sheng being the more powerful warrior, and Wukong being the more intelligent warrior. Even when Sheng would defeat Wukong, Wukong would outsmart the warrior god and escape. Sheng eventually decided he needed to outsmart Wukong. Wukong's behavior reminded me of a Disney villain, if I recall. Ego and all. If I remember correctly, Sheng used Wukong's ego to outsmart him and capture Wukong once and for all. Then, Wukong was sentenced to be be held under a mountain. I forget how long but I know it's somewhere between 100-1000 years. Eventually that time passes. Goddess of mercy finds him. Offers him release from is cage as long as he becomes her deciple. And she, Guan Yin gives Sun Wukong that ring shaped crown that makes him behave. She's a goddess of mercy, not a goddess of gulliblness. She knows he's a trickster.

Videos like this make me realise how sheltered my life really was. Theres so many things about cultures across the world that I either didn't know at all or totally misunderstood because of racist undertones. I'm only just starting to understand Islamic culture more now because I'm trying to make an effort to. I may not agree with the Islamic faith, nor do I agree with Christian faith or any faith, but I allowed that to turn into a racist dismissal of such a massive part of the world that became hatred. I'm so glad that I'm starting to open my eyes, even if I have a long way to go. I hope many others can see this too and realize how we can be brought up to believe these racist ideas so thoroughly that we don't even realize they're racist. To be clear I mean our portrayal of asians and middle eastern peoples in just about everything in western culture.
I remember learning about the sun wukong story in one of the comics I think American Born Chinese and I got excited about infernape so much that I named him Wukong... also my school had an Arabian nights play and I also watched Magi (which has barely anything to do with the book besides the names and the jinns and all that) so that’s fun
Yeah necrozma should be little more talked about i mean ultra necrozma has also inspiration to a certain angel that of the seraphim and eternatus is incomplete just like necrozma
@@zelfris2958 did you knew that seraphim are six wings angels covered with purity fire ? They cover their bodies and faces with their wings. Dragon is Satan himself.
I find it fascinating that an anonymous story teller somewhere on the road between the Middle East and China centuries ago inspired a character in the most successful media franchise ever.
I liked the Manaphy, the Lucario, the Latias/Latios and darkrai. . . Hard to rank them, quite a bit time has passed since I have seen any. Maybe 1 Darkrai, 2. Lucario, 3 manaphy, 4 latias/latios.
I’m surprised he got so close in this video but just missed one of Hoopa’s biggest inspirations: There is a character in sun wukong’s story journey to the west named the rhinoceros king who literally uses a golden ring that can suck in anything. The rhinoceros king’s true form is later revealed to be a bull which explains why Hoopa has those bull horns.
1:45 Yeap, even with its horns is a genie because genies are usually depicted with horns in ancient art. 6:10 Funny enough even the "original Alladin was chinese" can be see as wrong too because in said tale it was set in a fictional version of China just for the purpose to sound exotic even for middle eastern people.
Fun Fact: Ne Zha was (at least in one tale) often fighting his father who lost. If I recall the story correctly, the father comes across the Buddha of Light who teaches him a spell to summon a Pagoda. With that spell he defeats his son who swears to change his ways and now the father is called the Heavenly Pagoda carrier.

It's talking about Will Smith's cosplay. "Yaa, it's rewind time!!" 😂😂😂
Love how this channel tricks me into learning history so I have somethin interesting to talk about with my grandparents so they think im smart
Hoopa is my favorite pokemon
And really wood want to see it getting some more recognition.
Heh, love the Scout getting beaten sound.
Always a fan of watching random TF2 references popping up like that in videos of UA-camrs I watch
Lockstin: I mean, I'm not saying it's like the top 20 or anything...
Me: Lockstin, there's only 21 movies currently out, if you don't count the 3D movie remake!
Ouch, damned by faint praise.
Mellota surely there’s more to her than just being a ballet dancer
Poor gen 6 myths. Just got forgotten about
Lockstin saying "Different universes" makes me believe that the theory with each Pokemon Cartridge being it's own universe connects to the anime too
Hey Lockstin, I wanna thank you for this video especially! Would love to see more gen 6 content - it felt kind of lore-light and you're great at filling in the gaps. My friend and I have our own lore-building project and Kalos has been a wild ride.
i am just looking at ludicolo looking at me
Hoopa is such an under appreciated Pokémon, I miss the days of Oras and the days where Hoopa was still relevant
Now I want a Irish Pokemon game, where the legendaries are remenisant to the hero Cu, with his best friend, and brother like, that he killed because of Medb
I would like to suggest a video about Deoxys and the real-world viruses, which can mutate and adapt to various circumstances, like Deoxys does changing its formes
Ah yes, one of my favorite and rather unique Mythicals, not only was Hoopa a main protag/antag in the movie, he looks cheeky in a cute way
Even though we was one of the many forgettable Pokemon, he has a special place in my Favorite Mythicals.
Ya learn something new every day :) and dang, you went outta your way to fix and reupload? Legend
Absol is one of my favorite pokemon, and I think it's kinda over-looked. I feel like with it's whole "warning people of danger' thing there's got to be an interesting origin in there somewhere.
“The rings, What do the rings mean, Mason?!”

💀 no step on SNEK! 🇺🇸🇭🇰
True
6:09 well Thanks Lockstin and Pascu & Rodri
"are you saying that one of the very few, most obviously middle-east inspired pokemon is actually chinese?"
"yes, yes I am."

its not like its stopped me before 1:22 that little zoom i felt that in my soul
Necrozma, Lunala and solgaleo: We can do that but better
Yeah necrozma should be little more talked about i mean ultra necrozma has also inspiration to a certain angel that of the seraphim and eternatus is incomplete just like necrozma
@@zelfris2958 necrozma is more inspired from Amaterasu the sun goddess in shinto myth than an angel.
... did you know that seraphim are known as dragons in heaven
@@zelfris2958 did you knew that seraphim are six wings angels covered with purity fire ? They cover their bodies and faces with their wings.
Dragon is Satan himself.
@@zelfris2958 eternatus isn't incomplete its literally just black death pokemonized.
This actually might be my favorite episode because I literally learned a lot about culture not just Pokémon
"Ne Zha was born a 4 year old boy." Now that's not confusing at all.
I mean we got virgin birth so we're all weird here.
8:53 I wasn't expecting F/GO's Nezha's bond CE in this video.
Dude stop talking to a ring he's chillin in his genie bottle
I find it fascinating that an anonymous story teller somewhere on the road between the Middle East and China centuries ago inspired a character in the most successful media franchise ever.
Lockstin: "Hoopa"
* holds up part of a springboard pan *
I'm so glad you did this. Hoopa is probably my second favorite Pokemon, right after Yveltal.
he got released on pokemon unite
The intro was perfect.
also the scout part was great too.
"It wasnt the best pokemon movie" what's your favorite one?
I liked the Manaphy, the Lucario, the Latias/Latios and darkrai. . . Hard to rank them, quite a bit time has passed since I have seen any.
Maybe 1 Darkrai, 2. Lucario, 3 manaphy, 4 latias/latios.
No mention of Masters, where Hoopa is the legend focused on in the main story....
Hoopa's currently relevant, just in a spinoff game.
As Arabian most of the Arabic facts r misunderstand by your friend
I’m surprised he got so close in this video but just missed one of Hoopa’s biggest inspirations:
There is a character in sun wukong’s story journey to the west named the rhinoceros king who literally uses a golden ring that can suck in anything. The rhinoceros king’s true form is later revealed to be a bull which explains why Hoopa has those bull horns.
Hi did u repost this?
You are first
@@3rdWheel ik
He in fact did he probably found am error in the original and reposted it since the original is gone
hi
1:45 Yeap, even with its horns is a genie because genies are usually depicted with horns in ancient art.
6:10 Funny enough even the "original Alladin was chinese" can be see as wrong too because in said tale it was set in a fictional version of China just for the purpose to sound exotic even for middle eastern people.
No one cares but I'm second ayy! Look at this tea tho- 👁️👄👁️ reposted?
Yeah it is reposted. Apparently some things in the video were spelled backwards or something? I think it is explained in the pinned comment
"sun wukong was a monkey...born from a rock"
please someone stop the opium trade
or go back in time to the late 16th century to stop Wu Cheng'en from writing the book
