Poaching Vessel, Thunder, Sinks in Suspicious Circumstances

  • On April 6, the notorious poaching vessel, Thunder, sank inside the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of Sao Tome.
“Usually when a vessel is sinking, the captain will close all hatches so as to maintain buoyancy. However, on the Thunder, the reverse was done - doors and hatches were tied open and the fishhold was opened. It is an incredibly suspicious situation, to say the least.” - Capt. Peter Hammarstedt

Being in the Coast Guard for 8 years, that seems to be a deliberate sinking of a vessel for reasons that the international community should follow up on! On the other hand I give the Sea Shepeard kiddos for assisting in the rescue and putting differences aside

Sadly while everyone wishes they would do this but they can't unless they want there whole fleet sunk by Japanese destroyers and frigates in a couple days or even hours plus there a non profit organization which means they probably don't got the money to buy a submarine with working torpedoes and noise makers If even with the money from one of there ships going down and idk if they sell those to organizations like these (if you don't know if your a organization that is a military based or law enforcing (I think law enforcement organizations but there is a limit to what they can purchase) organization you can buy ships with guns on them but like I stated above there are limits idk what they are tho)

A sinking ship like this might kill the crab in land on. and a few more with oil leak.. but thats nothing in the big picture

I don't always agree with there way of executing actions. But in the fishing domain and mainly in and around African waters I think they really step up. For example doing action with the local authorities as they usually don't have the same equipment to execute something like what they can. Keep upp the good work.

+Daniel Mansfield It might have been a 10 pound bass if the oceans weren't being used unsustainably.
The issue isn't eating fish; it's bycatch and commercial fishing. It's targeting species already threatened, and in ways that are destroying the reefs in which the fish live.

    • @HughzieTube

+Kyle Bullard Fuel would have been minimal as SS had been following them for weeks and the boat was riding very high in the water.
Oil (Engine/Hydraulic) would be the main concern.

The captain of the fishingboat scuttled it inside territorial waters, but still outside the range the boats of that country possess, so the likelihood of someone salvaging that boat is pretty slim and so the possible evidence of illegal activities are gone.
