Very nice tutorial so far, mate. You got straight down to business and showed how easy and fast it is to create music with a tracker. Good job! Cheers, dblue.
one of the best tutorials. I've been using Renoise and Renoise only for a year. I make terror/speedcore and d'n'b and breakcore so I end up with like a million instruments so I end up having a ridiculous amout of tracks. So I'm trying to figure out grouping to try and be a little more organized. Scrolling is very taxing over an extended period of time.
interesting vid. ive finally cracked into renoise after months of delaying cz it looks too intimidating, however the basics are alot simpler than i thought! just one thing though, you say its important to eq properly- you should be attenuating freqs in software, not boosting them!
Excellent demo! Thanks a lot for taking the time to put this together. I've been playing with Renoise for a few days and I see I have a long way to go - but the results seem worth it! Thanks again!
I love Renoise. I'm not really into old-school trackers or anything like the chiptune scene, either. After a few days with this, though, I gave up on learning Ableton Live.
Are you guys seriously criticising someone for using a break beat in a DnB tune? Don't you know anything about the history of electronic music? Breakbeats is the foundation of the genre; wiki it. Music is not a game, there is no such thing as cheating. Do whatever it takes to be creative, amen.
I recently tried out this program and I've completely fallen in love.. I never want to use another DAW again, tracking is addictive! All hail to the mighty Renoise!
might be aw bit late but even i used this video ALOT for like small reference and you did help me alot with just the simple things in this, so i thank you !
you need to scour the renoise website. there are loads of useful pages there. Ive had renoise for a day and i can already make a simple drum beat. This video has helped me immensely which is really cool. Go to the website
Excellent - got cut short at the end and u were going a wee bit quick in places... but you deserve an award and it was a great video! Congrats - it helped me a lot!
Great tutorial! I've been using trackers for years and Renoise is by far the best tracker at the moment. Dont understand all the limited FL Studio and Reason stuff... but respects to all musicians and their wares.
I'm intrigued by how you use just your keyboard for almost everything, which makes for an incredibly fast workflow. You made me wanna check out Renoise. If I get the hang of it, it might just replace Ableton Live in my bedroom studio. Great video!
I honestly don't think the the buttons look flashy. They aren't Windows '98 styled, but I think they look pretty simple. Renoise does come with different themes that you can access though the "theme" button at the top left of the window. The official Renoise youtube channel released a extensive 45 minute tutorial video that walks you through the basics. It helped me learn the program. I highly recommend watching it.
ha ha ha ive never seen someone freak with the keyboard like that ace ive been using renoise for a wile but i still have to look at the keyboard to see what im doing this guy has skill
you can either download VST instruments, if you want synthetic drums, or get some drum samples. there are various free source for either of the two on the net, just search for "drum samples" or whatever kind of sample you're looking for with your favourite internet search engine.
It's a pleasure to watch this. But even as an occasional Renoise user I find it impossible to tell what keys you're pressing. It would be awesome, if you were inclined, to add comments in the video describing the keystrokes.
@alienpelvis86 - That's a very subjective question. A lot of people use it for faster, more complex genres like drum n bass, glitch, idm, breakbeat, etc. but it's good for whatever you want, really. I think the questions you should be asking are, "Does Renoise fit in my workflow?" and "Do I like Renoise?" If Renoise works for you, regardless of genre, use it!
@felixcock FL Studio and Reason are both very strong programs. I'm positive you can do just about anything you'd do in FL Studio in Renoise, though the workflow is quite different, as you can see. Reason is a bit of a different beast because the devices are unique to the proram, but, as a former Reason user who moved to Renoise a few years ago, I'd like to say the same thing.
I find the best source to be Computer Music magazine, i'm from the uk so i'm not sure where else its available but I personally have a back catalogue of royalty free samples due to that magazine :)
lol i used Octamed about 12 years back... Fast-tracker, Impulse Tracker and Med before that haha.. I think one of the first trackers on the pc was Madtracker which I still use today but I havent tried Renoise yet..
@OuroGoku There can be only one Venetian Snares at any given time. To become the new one, you must find the current one and defeat him in honorable combat. I would suggest boomboxes at fifty paces.
tons of mine tracks was super in 1-2 patterns and then begin pain in arse with those transitions and progressions forced to be hardly divided in this separated patterns. This is why there must be clips sequencer in renoise
hey shaypah dj no-sleeves great tutorail i have a problem though when i render my track and convert into an mp3 i get a 2:50 song with no sound help with this please. PS nothing is muted i tirple check too
@soundcrumbs I ofcourse mean : 'if you don't believe real music can be made with computers'.... In addition to listening to Amon Tobin, try Squarepusher, Wagon Christ, Cinematic Orchestra and the list is endless tbh :) enjoy!
hey looks pretty interesting, maybe best use it as a plugin in cubase as some kind of pattern generator? what about vst-compatibility? ... the eq's don't seem very precise though
@TheQuietAesthetic Actually, it is much jarder to make good sounding music using just computers since you are not playing the instruments and get into the groove so to say.. the programming takes the groove right out, so you have to really think about how to achieve certain things. And then try to not loose the original idea. Also, using the computer makes for all kind of sounds and fx impossible to achieve any other way. If you dont believe real music isnt made on computers, try Amon tobin.
shaypah... sound like "i don't know" in french: "j'sais pas" fun. cya man, thanks for sharing, i was wondering what kind of song I could do with this soft
Is your name really celsius?? Thanks for this vid m8. Very helpful. Been thinking of buying re noise for some time but keep on with mad tracker as its free(ish)
Hey man!! You type sooo fast :P I am very new to Renoise but I think its a very good Daw.. can you give me the most important shortcuts for Renoise? I am strugling to writte down the melody..
this program is great for any kind of drum n bass/breakbeat/breakcore stuff. But if you're making house or trance fl or cubase are great. I never tried Reason but I know people swear by it. It's all that chemical bros and prodigy are using these days
I notice you use alot of shortcuts on your keyboard to issue commands, I've been doing everything manually with mouse and a few keys for a year lol...I never really bothered cuz there were so many shortcuts in the preferences it was heard to learn. The way you construct a beat saves tremendous amounts of time. are these all shortcuts to be found in Renoise which you learned as you went along? or did you program them yourself?
See, I dab with drum'n'bass where I'm constantly playing with beats and basslines. For me, trackers have always been better at this. Just the way I do things. I'm not pushing Renoise on anyone.
is your name celcius like in celcius & farenheit? :) if so, cool. anyway, nice video & groove. definetly going to check out this sequencer and maybe someday get your lightning speed workflow ;)
sorry for the gash question but can someone tell me how to make a note turn off in the pattern editor? otherwise im running back to logic and reason lol
this is very helpful for people who have a moderate understanding of trackers and need an introduction into throwing down beats. A+
10 years ago... I remember watching this when I was new to Renoise. Love the slimy bassline!

*"amen brother" - ftfy ;)
@@woulg beat me to it ... by 2 years lol
I can't believe you would use "amen" in a YT comment. That's a drum loop.
@@nathanfinnegan522 he knows lol. That's the point of the quotes in the comment.
This is not even drum and bass tho
I recently tried out this program and I've completely fallen in love.. I never want to use another DAW again, tracking is addictive! All hail to the mighty Renoise!
are u still alive?
@@A55455In47I0n they overdosed on renoise :’(
I think I found the oldest Renoise video out there :o

quality!! you made it look mad ez when its not!!! just registered my copy, never knew this program existed, was still using octomed on my amiga 1200!!
Great tutorial! I've been using trackers for years and Renoise is by far the best tracker at the moment. Dont understand all the limited FL Studio and Reason stuff... but respects to all musicians and their wares.
Great video, I see how fast Renoise can be when used right!
I'm intrigued by how you use just your keyboard for almost everything, which makes for an incredibly fast workflow. You made me wanna check out Renoise. If I get the hang of it, it might just replace Ableton Live in my bedroom studio. Great video!

i've started in 1991 with Oktalyzer in my Amiga 500 and later in 1996 with Fasttracker2 in my PC, will try this Out..
excellent my man,and the beat was mad dope!!
This brings back some good OctaMed memories.
It also allows midi. Infact you can have midi/sampled instrument/VSTs all on one track
that's some fast keyboard action!
your hands.... it's magic
very nice tutorial, u work the same way as i do with renoise. i will make a tutorial aswell within a few days :)
Obsessed with the beat 4:00
@felixcock FL Studio and Reason are both very strong programs. I'm positive you can do just about anything you'd do in FL Studio in Renoise, though the workflow is quite different, as you can see. Dang, so pro.
Awesome!
@akcoen2 Same here, tried out ableton quite often, but in the end, renoise is the most immersive way to compose, at least for me
lol i used Octamed about 12 years back... Fast-tracker, Impulse Tracker and Med before that haha.. I think one of the first trackers on the pc was Madtracker which I still use today but I havent tried Renoise yet..
I make ambient and IDM, so i'm kinda shopping around for the right program.
@FischKopfD There is no part 2. But there are tons of newer tutorials on the LearnRenoise channel.
@OuroGoku There can be only one Venetian Snares at any given time. To become the new one, you must find the current one and defeat him in honorable combat. I would suggest boomboxes at fifty paces.

Not entirely. You can use VST's as well.
I have already done it, but thanks for asking!

just type it into google or watev, beat battle 5 is a comp that they are having atm,but just look for the kit on the comp site
You are entitled to your opinion.
how did you sync the breakbeat so quickly??
hey looks pretty interesting, maybe best use it as a plugin in cubase as some kind of pattern generator?
what about vst-compatibility? ... the eq's don't seem very precise though
@HigginsUltraSedative it´s virtual music

what is that paste of snaredrum that you do on the keyboard, can you tell me what the name of the shortcut is?
shaypah... sound like "i don't know" in french: "j'sais pas"
fun. cya man, thanks for sharing, i was wondering what kind of song I could do with this soft

Ha, I used Buzz for a few years. Now I use Reason, I might have to go back to trackers.
Cool stuff, thx & respect!
Maybe you could do a tut on how to get those fat beats going?

how do you actually put the notes onto the columns?!!!! help mne!!!!!!!!
You mean the musicians who preformed the music on the records also wrote it?
You mean the old records with classical music i have is just a bunch of audio books?

Renoise as u can read in the title
Nice, Where can we find the samples?
true! ive been using it for a while but damn, im still struggeling with it
look at omnisphere it's pricey but, looks cool to me
derren brown?
Out of curiosity, why do you think it's an amateurish program?
@maxi2812 Amen to that. wait
Nice tutorial but for better workflow, I think you should turn pattern follow off.
7:38 what's this style of music called? Sounds like good old prodigy
It is called Drum and Bass. There are many sub branches within it. Prodigy is Breakbeat. Very good stuff.
whats a tracker?
Sian Ellis you'll like this
Renoise looks so ripped off from FT2 from the good ol days :) I still have some of my old .xm's that I made hehe
