This is a brilliant rendering of Lew Stone's 1935 arrangement. I have a copy of the original 78, and it's note perfect, even on the baritone sax solo, originally improvised by Ernest Ritte. Its so rewarding to know that there is an orchestra in the 21sr century which can still perform these musically very challenging arrangements, and make them swing! Bravo.
I listened to the original, and as good as this band is, Lew Stone’s band was tighter. I don’t know how they did it, but that groove that those old bands had has never quite been duplicated today. This was a modern studio recording, can you imagine how hard it was back then to play that perfectly in one take? There was no mixing console, no editing, they had to play perfectly balanced, and if they made a mistake, it was start over.
@@Art_Thompson Yes. The old musicians had incredible discipline, even though Lew Stone ran a very relaxed ship. The boys knew exactly when that focus was needed. And I think the recording conditions of the day assisted in that sense of focus. They were a co-operative, and knew each other instinctively, thanks to rehearsing and playing together for so many hours each day. Youth and energy also on their side, plus inspired section leads.
To Add to my previous remarks, just as enjoyable as when Max Raabe und seine Palast Orchester did it with a different song with a line of Beauty’s doing a line of dancing!! Oh I so wish I can get to London soon!
Brittania rules the waves: radio waves, television waves, and sound waves. Cheers from Texas.
outstanding young band and leader!jo atlanta
Outstanding. The phased introduction ideally shows what you do so well: to bring the 1920s to life in 2018. Well done.
This song though ,and costumes and hair so authentic and the ladies hair and dresses and makeup 💄👍I'm transported

Takes me back to when, as a kid, during the forties, I played my dad's 78 rpm records of dance music. Exquisite nostalgia.

The British are better at everything -- including America's Cole Porter! :-) I wish there was a "Love" button on UA-cam.
