I can only speak for myself but imo the reason why so many players changed their tone with Zhezli is because her design matches her personality and mannerisms in game probably better than any other character in the game. And that's not something you can tell by just the drip marketing. Another character that's similar is Furina from genshin. If you just look at her art it's ok nothing special. But when you play the story and learn about her personality and past it matches the design and it grows on you. And that's just good character design by these devs. Both of these characters become relatable and their personality and mannerisms bring out the unique art of them more once you seen them fully in the setting of their respective games
which is funny, cuz i had no info on Furina besides drip marketing, and the moment i saw her i knew she'd be the reason i keep playing genshin. So yeah still pretty subjective.
Not only that but somehow Zhezhi 3d model in game looks way better than her 2d art, which is funny since generally its the opposite on most games where the 2d art looks amazing but the in game model is a straight downgrade
Yup, love characters you can grow into. Even better if you already like them from the start, but it is indeed great character design when you make them relatable or likeable in many different aspects.
I know it's entirely personal taste, but I saw an overworked artist with an exposed shoulder turtle neck, glasses, and Rin Tohsaka-esque hair and literally came back to WuWa because of her.
lmao literally me everytime she just moves in one frame per seconds in the dialogues and cutscenes, but mostly in dialogues because she has so much personality.
One big point in Zhezhi's favour is that she is a new archtype of character within the Wuthering Waves universe. You could argue that some of the other characters are on the quiet side, but they still come off as confident rather than timid. Even if you, like Connor, enjoy the dommy-mommy characters, I think it's important that not every character just fall into the same tropes, so Zhezhi having a unique personality within the cast makes her stand out and makes her a better character as a result.
Art is inherently subjective. No such thing as judging art objectively. As for why Zhezhi was dismissed based on the teaser artwork, and after release she's liked much more - Kuro does this thing where their 2D art is not as good as their 3D models. Which is not a bad thing overall, because most people will end up pleasantly surprised upon actually trying out a character, however their 2D art alone fails to generate as much excitement as some other games. On the upside they will never end up in an opposite situation, where the 2D art is super hype, and then character (or skin) releases and it's washed out, ugly, blobby mess (looking at you Smite...). Aside from the fact that people are allowed to change their opinion about aesthetics, here I think they started to like Zhezhi because her 3D model is just so much better.
This is not their intention, i've personally known artists who got commissioned by Kuro and their experience working with them was not... very good. They're just not that professional yet & they underpay a lot. Kuro Dev while is very hardworking and demonstrated their skill to be respected by the community. The rest departments failed to do so.
People need to stop judging a character design by drip marketing art, the 3d model in the game is way better, her clothes even have some wrinkles on it and it shows alot of detail.
ive seen many players and even CC said that zhezhi and xiangli yao designs are mid when the drip marketing 2d splashart was shown. but after they saw the 3d model and the actual trailer they remotely changed their mind lol 😂😂
Zhezhi's design didn't really catch my attention but it's her companion story and the interactions with her during the 1.2 event along with her moveset that really sold me on her. I also agree with Hex on this one. Kafka looks pretty but she's not really all that interesting to me character wise. I dropped the game during the Xianzhou Luofu arc cause it was pretty boring and even Kafka wasn't interesting enough to save it.
100% agree with Hex 😂 and if going by design, i will pick Zhezhi over Kafka every single time. what i also like about Zhezhi after i met her in-game, which i didn't notice until then, is that her eyes are quite pretty. they really go together with her entire outfit and personality.
She's the most fun I had so far with the game, love her kit, trying to get her Signature weapon atm, warping around with her is so damm satisfying, also loved her design from day one since I saw her drip marketing, reminded me of the 90's style.
Hey man! I haven't been here for a while! But i love the new style! And i feel like you re thinner.. you have been in the gym, haven't you? I feel more confidence too! Thats really cool!
I initially pulled her to empower my jinhsi since i dont like Yuanwu. Now shes my favourite unit. i did clear also with her scar on the tower and she had the sub dps set on. pretty satisfied with her!
I like Zhezhi's character and design. Extremely cute and her personality flows really well with her quirks and mannerisms. Her combat mechanics aren't enough for me to want to pull for her atm, but her overall design almost got me. One thing I don't understand is the hate or dislike of Yinlin and Changli. Both are confident and seductive women with hearts of gold. Changli being more on the bustier side. And while they fit the "dommy mommy" type, that's in no way a bad thing. If having big boobs is fan-service design(instead of being realistic, compared to games where all female characters are only allowed to have B-cups because bigger would be sexist somehow). only confirms that people find big boobs appealing. Just like fan-service in general. These things exists and are often celebrated because alot of people actually like them. Fan-service does not mean that it's objectively bad or adjescent attributes like writing becoems bad. Nikke is a majorly blatant example that fan-service and good writing, design and consistency go hand-in-hand. Fan-service by default is a good thing, because it means to give fans what they want. Both Yinlin and Changli have great story quests that build upon their characters, struggles and motivations. Yinlin has strong morals that saw her at odds with her caretaker as she valued the justice they stood for. But her upbringing and ideals has her ending up rather isolated now, with the exception of Rover being the one person she can be her true self with, and be accepted. Which ties in with her having to hide her identity and her history of undercover jobs. Changli has suffered from early childhood because of her Forte and spent alot of her time alone before also being adopted by someone. Even as a lonely orphan, she still had great morals in wanting to protect others from herself and TDs. Her stories and growing up to later on mentor Jinshi all for the sake of a better future, a future she believed for a long time she wouldn't live to see. Until Rover came along and allowed her to regain her will to live and realise what her master wanted for her to find. Someone she can truly be close to. These are wonderfully written mini arcs for their respective characters. They just happen to have sexy designs on-top of it. To denouce these characters just because they fit into the "dommy mommy" type is to spit in the face of the writers. And truth be told, neither of them are "dommy". There's no step on me sentiment from me and as characters they're very nice and non-abusive to Rover. They're just confident, sexy and mature. This is a gacha game. And like most gacha games, the majority of the player base are heterosexual men, and feature attractive waifu characters and self-insert main characters. If you do not like this or fan-service stuff, then you're free to leave these games alone. There are much more legitimate things to complain about. Like Granblue fantasy's lack of consistency in their writing(especially for the relationships between the MC and female characters for some reason). But demonizing waifus, self inserts and fanservice in gacha games of all media, just because it's common in them, is either ignorant or malicious.
Loving these analytical/discussion videos! I haven't engaged with any of Zhezhi's design discourse online, but I can kind of understand why one might be thrown off by her. In my case, it was only the very first teaser art that felt a bit jarring. I couldn't understand why at first, but after a few comparisons I came to the conclusion that it was probably because she felt she didn't 'belong in the same world' as the other characters. Her design (color, linework, eyes, etc.) is pretty unique compared to others, in a way that makes her stand/stick out, depending on your preferences. I've come to appreciate Zhezhi more as more about her was revealed, especially after learning about her daily struggles with clients 😭. I'd keep pulling past my already lost 50/50 but hey, Blue Mommy is waiting for me.
1:20 Interjection, there is nothing in this world that is entirely subjective. That includes art. The reason why people think that art is entirely subjective is because they are used to modern art. Which works mostly on subjective interpretations. However that's now how classic art used to operate. Things such as how firm is the grasp on an artist's pen, allowing for straighter lines with softer details, can all be judged objectively because it's a skill that can be trained on repetition and refinement. You can in fact judge art objectively, so long as you present the perspective, point of reference and what qualities are being judged. Meanwhile you can always judge most things subjectively so long as you're measuring emotional impact and personal input. That said, your friend and every naysayer were wrong from the very beginning. If judging by actual objective standards, Zhezhi has always been a good character from the very beginning. It's only when subjective values come into play that you can decide whether she is appealing to you or not. The 3d model does add a special reflection to her eyes which greatly improve her expressions making her way more appealing. Now, let me address the part where you fail to notice the importance of objectivity in art. Much like I addressed above, you are judging by modern standards. An art with solid lines, good color composition and symmetry will be good so long as it correctly conveys the message that the artist is trying say. Because that is the point. Art is all about message, it's an alternative form of communications where images or objects are used in place of words. The reason why you cannot seem to define art through objectivity is precisely because you're forgetting the message. More importantly, there are other objective elements to art than the ones you cited. And those are extremely important because they are the ones that define the objective of the art, which are the ones that contribute to picture composition. Mona Lisa is an objectively good piece of art regardless of whether the woman is sad or happy, which accounts for the more subjective nature of the painting. Salvador Dali's paintings are beatiful to look at regardless of how weird and surreal are the objects he portrays in his paintings. Even if they meant absolutely nothing you could still use them as decorative pieces due to the objective qualities in how well drawn these pictures really are. Now, in more modern art, all of the above is dropped in favor of personal expression. Some works become questionable if you try to judge solely on objective qualities, such as most of Picasso's works, since he draws everything in cubes and with not so much care for fidelity, At that shows his lack of love towards what he is representing, which exposes the critical nature of his works. As you can see THAT is how subjective art looks like.
To me, it all comes down to "practicality and utility". For instance, i do not have Jinhsi or any glacio DPS, which forces me to skip her since Shorekeeper is gonna be way more useful than her. Sure her gameplay is actually fun, she's got a nice personality and backstory, however, when it comes to practicality she is not a fit for my account at least, so that's how I see it.
I was sold on Zhezhi because of her trailer and Fate allowed me to have Her on the 45th pull. She may just be the reason I 30 Doritos the this and the next 3-4 cycles of the ToA, even though I will never be able to kill Scar or Mech in less than 60 seconds ever, like the Elite players do.
Nah with Standard Ripple she's competitive (if unoptimized) to Yinlin + Sig on Jinhsi. Early result undervalued the actual increase in CN. CN consider as a better Yinlin as she doesn't feels as clunky and is wheelchair.
I wanted to skip her but after play her story mission it very hard to do so, and how good she is making me pulls for her banner what even better got her early.
Her Character Screams "Must Protect" vibes, but does her character design/playstyle makes me want to Insta Get her? No, unfortunately, even as a digital artist myself.
She kinda has not done anything other than shows up randomly and look cool. She could be interesting, but they just refuse to expand on the Stellaron Hunters other than being edgy op characters doing their own thing.
She's not mid but design just doesn't suit my taste. That's after her story quest too. Maybe because I have plans to save for yinlin's rerun, that's why I'm being more stricter in character roster selection. Maxing out all forte system for all dps and sub dps. Gathering materials, fighting bosses, learning how to use them properly. Just like the 2.X drip marketing. I'm only interested in 2/5. The number can be lowered if the character is only good in design and not anywhere else. The opposite can happen but that's rare for me to get interested in a character that i have already dismissed as skippable.
Rule 1 of f2p if you get it , you use it ( got her at 10 and her weapon at 10 , i dont care if she's mid or not at this point lmao ) and wuwa is in early updates rn , so it doesnt really matter ( atleast for now )
in my opinion the "problem" with zezhi design are her eyes. its make her look like hypnotized or dazed. I think if her irises line thicker/stronger ppl will like her better in beginning. gameplay wise she considered to be "will be good/OP" sub DPS because currently there no glacio-skill dmg DPS to make use her outro fully
Well i prefer to use Taqui in that team. The nuke is just to good to pass. She only gives energy and damage over time when normal attacking. She can run with Sanqua as main damage dealer due to cyro damage buff tho. (yeah lets ignore lion guy)
@@Bullminator taoqi is way lower investment but the damage deepen with zhezhi + verina is higher than with taoqi (40 to 38%) not to mention 35% attack boost from verina
I'll speak for myself, I only spent 30 shots and caught her. Look, the character is cool, her skills made me think as if I were playing with Encore but with less damage hahaha. Seriously now, if there was a way to go back and get those 30 shots back instead of her, I would change it instantly. Because I know that as soon as a cooler character like Camellia or Phrolova comes out, I'll never play her again to tell you the truth.
As Pure free to play i have Zhezhi, Changli, Jinhsi, Jianxin, Yinlin, Female Rover, Sanhua and Taqui, so pretty much Harem. The boring Chixia, Yanyang and Baizhi are maids.
She's kinda lanky, freaky-long fingers. I don't like that she's as tall as the protagonist. Maybe he's just short though. I do like her personality the most though, of any of the released limited characters.
I like her. She might be timid but shes the most blatant with her confessions to rover. No "read betweeen the lines dense hero" kind of move. And shes easy to play; my kind of character.
Zhezhi to me suffer the same thing I generally don't like using Jinshi and Changli. They felt too floaty, where they was design to be like those Immortal Wuxia character that float around and fight that doesn't translate well in game for me. Due to no reliable boot on the ground moment. Her design is good and I prefer her more then the other character even personality wise.
Imo I think wuwa has a problem with making outfits for their characters, there are a lot of characters in this game who's outfits look bad *cough* *cough* female rover*cough* *cough* So yeah, if you switch out the outfits this issue could be fixed, and that's why kuro must make skins in this game
Her design is fine but her animations are easily the most boring in the game. She resets quickly, and doesn't convey much if any personality in her animations either. So, based on the test use, she's fun to play but she's more default than the mc, which is weird.
I am not a fan of any character that makes me go beyond the soft pity, current banner is 73/80, guaranteed, definitely not gonna waste my guaranteed banner anymore after kuru made her hard to get, btw, since release the only 50/50 I have won was Jiyan, and that's all what I am gonna say
Look, I personally believe most dommy mommy archetype characters are overrated. Especially since many of them are just Yelan and/or Kafka expys with artificially ramped numbers to appease the simps that will inevitably roll for them. Like I legit could not stand using Yinlin or Changli; their gameplay loop felt so shallow compared to Jinhsi, Jiyan, and Zhezhi. I really hope Shorekeeper feels good to play, but who knows at this point...
??? changli and yinlin feels shallow in comparison to jinhsi and jiyan 😭 theyre the easiest characters to play in the game that don't require any thought
Bruh what are you smoking? Jiyan and Jinhsi are literally wheelchair characters. If the gameplay of Yinlin and Changli is shallow, you might as well say the game itself is shallow. Quick swap is mandatory in these two characters unlike your stooges.
Should judge a character for the ingame model and not the art. As pretty much all games, art isnt the final product. Hoyos art looks better than the model to the point its a let down seeing the 3d model. Im sure people remember Albedos hair.. Whereas Kuros art isnt as good but its not bad. Their models end up looking better and for the most part match the art
I think her trailer didn't do her any favors. Kuro has a massive problem in selling their characters, being bad both ingame a as well as outside of it. All anyone talked about was the npc. The trailer was indeed much better over all than the others but the absolute worst for her.
The trailer was fine though? just because a certain chars. acts more retarded takes the spotlight it doesn't takes away the showcase who Zhezhi is and she was portrayed good in that trailer, the reason why alot of people say she's mid because simply looking at her design. her char doesn't fit that you use to fight enemies etc, but a NPC, her design is far too normal,non-threatening etc, she's kind of char. that belongs into slice of life, romance genre than beating up enemies and her char. story reflects that. Adding Shorekeeper was revealed too early making the spotlight goes to her and given her drip marketing description, it just made Zhezhi more normal, heck she's probably the most normal char. that Kurogame ever designed, Zhezhi might be intended to be some sort of artwork mascot marketing etc hence why she exist (looking at all the marketing artwork etc).
@@haruusami1831One thing for sure. Her banner sales are gonna be atrocious. I predict even worse than Xiangli Yao (whose a dude and free because DPS and whale wants more for more damage). Thought Kuro may have anticipated this and that's why Shorekeeper was marketed sooner. Tho if she's only a support whale won't like her either, so she kinda need DPS sequences.
@@dendenmushi9714 Who knows their are some people who pulled for her simply because for Jinhsi again she's the best supp/sup-dps for Jinhsi, and i doubt its going to be that bad for both Zhezhi and Yao and it all depends how big the update is for the sales to be atrocious and the 1.2 update isn't that "big" (quotation as technically they did alot of work to simply change the town to be in festival mode + stories). And as for Shorekeeper early dripmarketing i doubt they anticipated the sales, but rather because their were many that was bummed out that it wasn't a major update but filler because many gacha players are so used to fillers being boring (but 1.2 update is really good enough for a filler), so they had to release Shorekeeper drip marketing in order to keep the hype up and it worked, even if Zhezhi + Yao only will get 10m or something that's already a win for a non-major char.
@@haruusami1831 Oh I know that from a filler banner perspective 10 millions isn't small (heck I'm sure Zhezhi alone can reach it and that's just mobile). It just looking at it from a long term perspective and not short term one. Kuro would most likely want to convert money in different sectors like OST, animations, marketing, Employees and even for PGR. Its not just about WuWa but for the whole company to further enhance and get back the loss (thought I think for this one Solon made a statement in end of July that they recouped the cost). In such a case, it is indeed quite atrocious for long term planning. A shame because Zhezhi is quite a brief of fresh air but gacha gamers are just coomers and she just doesn't hit that. The shy glass girl type is no longer that popular, Hoyo themselves avoid such characters if not mommy type (Xianyun, Yanagi). For the update, only 10 days passed. Its supposed to last 42 days. It will definitely feel boring overtime.
@@kaionyoki3670definitely 💯 they're going to ignore that 1. It's a filler(and a good one at that) 2. There's no fanservice-y characters 3. They gave out a free limited 5 star in the next month(Sept. 7)

I'm also an artist so I'm biased as shit LOL
Hm... 1.st thing when i seen this hair i was thinking of Chocola from Nekopara :P
They look more like ichinose kotomi from clannad
@@Synocra ye I can see the resemblance from both of of ur characters
She's the first character I was actively taking screenshots of during dialogues. No idea how her character design can be considered as "mid".
That dendro chick from genshit is mid design. Big head on a teenager body... what they were thinking.
lmao literally me everytime she just moves in one frame per seconds in the dialogues and cutscenes, but mostly in dialogues because she has so much personality.

Hey we can say objectively that Zhezhi is cute
I was sold on Zhezhi because of her trailer and Fate allowed me to have Her on the 45th pull. She may just be the reason I 30 Doritos the this and the next 3-4 cycles of the ToA, even though I will never be able to kill Scar or Mech in less than 60 seconds ever, like the Elite players do.
The problem is she needs her signature to beat yinlin + signature with Jinhsi. Also no ice dmg DPS made for ZHEZHI yet
she beats yinlin with cosmic ripples by 6% if yinlin is on sig because thats her only viable option
Not rly zhwzhi weapon is better than cosmic on yin lin
@@FloppedASF im talking about yinlins sig being her only good weapon
Nah with Standard Ripple she's competitive (if unoptimized) to Yinlin + Sig on Jinhsi.
Early result undervalued the actual increase in CN.
CN consider as a better Yinlin as she doesn't feels as clunky and is wheelchair.
I wanted to skip her but after play her story mission it very hard to do so, and how good she is making me pulls for her banner what even better got her early.
I went till i hit a gold roll. If it was a 50:50 loss, i would wait for moth waifu. Cant be picky as free to play.
Wanna know how they rate character? Big boba, mommy character = masterpiece
No boba, No mommy = mid
Her Character Screams "Must Protect" vibes, but does her character design/playstyle makes me want to Insta Get her? No, unfortunately, even as a digital artist myself.
Personality wise i like her
Model wise, still mid, i actually thought she was a 4 star for a long while
Shes a fantastic character
Hex isn't wrong btw.
How dare you!
nope, right 100%
She kinda has not done anything other than shows up randomly and look cool. She could be interesting, but they just refuse to expand on the Stellaron Hunters other than being edgy op characters doing their own thing.
@@SyLuX636 so she did in fact done something
She's not mid but design just doesn't suit my taste. That's after her story quest too.
Maybe because I have plans to save for yinlin's rerun, that's why I'm being more stricter in character roster selection. Maxing out all forte system for all dps and sub dps. Gathering materials, fighting bosses, learning how to use them properly.
Just like the 2.X drip marketing. I'm only interested in 2/5. The number can be lowered if the character is only good in design and not anywhere else. The opposite can happen but that's rare for me to get interested in a character that i have already dismissed as skippable.
Rule 1 of f2p
if you get it , you use it ( got her at 10 and her weapon at 10 , i dont care if she's mid or not at this point lmao )
and wuwa is in early updates rn , so it doesnt really matter ( atleast for now )
in my opinion the "problem" with zezhi design are her eyes. its make her look like hypnotized or dazed. I think if her irises line thicker/stronger ppl will like her better in beginning.
gameplay wise she considered to be "will be good/OP" sub DPS because currently there no glacio-skill dmg DPS to make use her outro fully
Yeah this is what I thought at first as well. She looks like she was gonna fall asleep as soon as I pulled her ass.
What about Lion Boy?
@@kilo1901 he glacio basic attack DPS, half zhezhi outro which skill dmg buff didnt benefit him. sanhua better pick
@@ywzgbf972
Ah got it
Yes,she is OK unit . She needs a mega glacio dps ,
Or you use her with jinshi and verina (best team right now)
But she is not a must to have unit
Well i prefer to use Taqui in that team. The nuke is just to good to pass. She only gives energy and damage over time when normal attacking.
She can run with Sanqua as main damage dealer due to cyro damage buff tho. (yeah lets ignore lion guy)
@@Bullminator taoqi is way lower investment but the damage deepen with zhezhi + verina is higher than with taoqi (40 to 38%) not to mention 35% attack boost from verina
nah she's the perfect sub dps and best fuel for jinshi so im happy to have her on my 2 account
Either u play taoqi or have an easier time with zhezhi for skill bonus.
did you play her quest, undoubtedly masterpiece
also, your observations are insufficient and heretical
She's amazing idc I 3 star left and right side of tower with her as main dps with sanhua
She's a better main dps than lingyang is and she isn't even main dps ☠️
Eyes with no pupils are unsettling as hell. It makes me hate the character.
Haha gottem…I mean gacha
She is a support, and support can be a long term investment.
ice support tho. imagine if phrolova is ice
I don’t think it divided anything. She is widely accepted to be a solid sub dps.
Mid or not its just a game character that will get outdated when new characters arrive like all characters, theres no point fighting over it
Highly agree with your points
Zhezhi is wife material changli is waifu material lol
As Pure free to play i have Zhezhi, Changli, Jinhsi, Jianxin, Yinlin, Female Rover, Sanhua and Taqui, so pretty much Harem.
The boring Chixia, Yanyang and Baizhi are maids.
@@Bullminatorfair
i planned on skipping her but she grew on me and pulled her
She's kinda lanky, freaky-long fingers.
Zhezhi is 5 star Sucrose, but much much hotter.
and much much cuter, and much much personality without even speaking.
Personally, I think Jinhsi is still ok in that term since her attack is not a direct hit and her mid air attack doesn't need stamina like Changli's
her design is mid, there is no such thing as objective art though.
all that talk sounds nonsense
Imo I think wuwa has a problem with making outfits for their characters, there are a lot of characters in this game who's outfits look bad *cough* *cough* female rover*cough* *cough*
So yeah, if you switch out the outfits this issue could be fixed, and that's why kuro must make skins in this game
I can understand Yinlin but I don't think Changli is like the others.
??? changli and yinlin feels shallow in comparison to jinhsi and jiyan 😭 theyre the easiest characters to play in the game that don't require any thought
Bruh what are you smoking? Jiyan and Jinhsi are literally wheelchair characters. If the gameplay of Yinlin and Changli is shallow, you might as well say the game itself is shallow. Quick swap is mandatory in these two characters unlike your stooges.
Speaking of artificially ramped numbers, the only reason you play Jiyan or Jinhsi is those big numbers. One is a dude and the other is vanilla.
Such a waste of a vid, if you like her, pull for her, simple as that. Who cares what anyone else thinks.
cuz her banner and xiangli yao will be the worst wuwa will ever see xD. people are def gonna talk about revenue
@@kaionyoki3670definitely 💯
they're going to ignore that 1. It's a filler(and a good one at that) 2. There's no fanservice-y characters 3. They gave out a free limited 5 star in the next month(Sept. 7)
I like her design period. If they don't like it they can just skip
