Does A DIY Solar Pool Heater Actually Work?!?

- We are trying it out because the pool is too cold! And I switched pools. Totally normal.
If you are looking to do the same, these are the things I used...
(Just to be clear, I shop Amazon a lot and have been posting links for years. I literally just had an a-ha moment to join their affiliate program. 🤦 One day we are going to figure it all out).
Sump Pump - amzn.to/3ux1g1R
1/2" Drip to Hose Adapter (not sure how necessary this is tbh) - amzn.to/3iBr7jP
1/2" Drip line 100 ft (get 2) - amzn.to/3iBr7jP
1/2" Drip Connector (you need two of these. not 2 packs, just 2) - amzn.to/3iDXDSb
To make the base, 4ft x 4ft plywood (we didn't have the space in our car to get this at the time, life will be easier to get it whole. Scrap wood to make the dial, good luck! (don't use thin wood or brad nails, it will fall apart like our did).
Extras!
Crab thermometer - amzn.to/3DdmJku
Pool Cups - amzn.to/3tIitpW
Bug Skimmer - amzn.to/36qE7X6

Add a clear tarp over the coil to trap the heat - which will make the returning water hotter. It’s a greenhouse effect.
I was a little concerned about the mixed reviews, but I used it last year and hooked it up again this year and it was great ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx-izdrK3eF-HMvjzeBOxToD6Fx-4ulJUh . I couldn't get my 10' Intex pool above 76 degrees the year prior and last year I got it to 90 and had to put ice in it. This worked so well! I have just 1 mat hooked up to a 1,000 GPH Intex pump and it makes a significant reduction in the flow rate coming back into the pool, but that is to be expected with how far the water has to travel through the mat.
I read putting some sort of black cover under the tubing helps too
A solar cover will keep the heat trapped in the pool and keep it on at night, otherwise you have to reheat it daily.
Thank you guys. Great video.
Hi guys. Great video! You’re too funny!! 😂 I ended up hooking a cheap timer up to mine…in 30 minute intervals, it gives the coils time to warm up. Just fyi. Works great…however, I made mine pretty instead of functional, so it’s gonna be redone to functional! Lol 😅
Why don't you do live streams
Cool
Nice 👍
At 40 seconds why does it look like a bog?
Yeah why don’t you do live streams anymore??
hi izzys
So it didn't work.
Well, i ended up adding a bubble wrap layer on top and kept it. It’s still pumping out hot water when the sun hits it. The pool has been at 80 degrees for weeks. I think between the both of them, it works!
To really make it work you need about 300' of tubing for that size pool, the whole thing should be black, and a glass or lexan or clear plastic sheet covering it. This turns it into a solar oven, sort of like when your car sits in the sun and gets hot inside.
HI
