Washington National Guard Welcomes New Commander as Major General Daugherty Retires

  • The Washington National Guard conducted its adjutant general change of command ceremony on June 29, 2024 at Camp Murray, WA. Washington state Gov. Jay Inslee appointed Brig. Gen. Gent Welsh as the Adjutant General for the state of Washington, assuming command from U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Bret Daugherty. Brig. Gen. Welsh now commands all Washington Army and Air National Guard forces and serves as the director of the Washington Military Department. Along with the Washington National Guard, the Washington Military Department includes the state’s Emergency Management Division, Washington State Guard and the Washington Youth Academy. Following the adjutant general change of command, a retirement ceremony was held for Maj. Gen. Daugherty to honor his 44 years of military service.
