22nd February 2016 - the day I got married!
As is the case with most Bengali weddings, the groom and the bride stay up all night surrounded with siblings, cousins and friends, and then in the wee hours of the morning the next day - the "Baashi Biye" is conducted. Post that, the groom and bride need to wait for the auspicious hour in the evening to formally enter the groom's home, but till then, they stay over at someone else's place, mostly catching up with some much needed sleep!
Well, in my case, "someone else's place" turned out to be the hotel where my in-laws and their relatives were staying, most of them having travelled all the way from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala to attend the wedding. So before me and my wife got an opportunity to give our eyelids some rest, I was gheraoed by my in-laws, and what followed was an informal "welcoming the groom" session, which included song requests flowing in from every corner of the room.
