Seriously outstanding work here, visualizing the true contours from the map is so important, and you clearly and dynamically do this with the cutaway hill model on the map. thanks!
I learned to navigate before GPS back in the late 80's while in the infantry with the 3/75th but this is a GREAT training aid and very well done. If someone still can't grasp navigation after this, and some dirt time......well they should just stay on the hard pan in town. Keep up the great work.
That was great your a super good instructor. My trip to S.E. Asia 1960s had me learning real fast how to read a map this with the help of some good guys. Been many years since I used a map but you just snapped my memory back in place. Thank you much.
Great video! The use of the training aids really made a huge difference. When I looked at the contour lines then watched you start to stack the mountain that proverbial light bulb went off. That really helps a person see how a flat two-dimensional image relates to a three-dimensional object in the real world.
From the Islands of Tonga I really appreciate your knowledge and understanding in your work...as a student myself this has helped a 16 yo to get to the right track...May GOD bless you and thank you.
Such a great teacher you are.Am Excited of your talented way of teaching,i clearly now see and understand what exactly contours are.Thank you very much Sir.
Sir actually this video is excellent for even teachers and I hope you that you add more and more videos regarding geography and cartography and get the gratitude of several thousands of people
this is actually good. I walked into seeing the old maps thinking that it is going to be boring but this man kept it brief without missing out anything. I really did not expect there to be a mountain model. I think this is what really makes this video stand out.
"now I get it". thank you John. Brilliantly simple training aid (though I am sure it took you and your wife alot of time to make, so big thank you). Shared.

My goodness!!!! Is this really that easy to understand all along.... LOL Thank you so much Sir. You have no idea how amazed I am that I found this video. I would love to get my hands on that little puzzle figurine mountain. That's genius! :)
Good talk, keep talking. There really needs to be a most-excellent YT vid series on maps, map reading, contours, and all map item symbols etc, topography etc.
