Some things we can’t control. I survived a plane crash and suffered burns to 65% of my body. I’ve had 68 surgeries (so far), broken bones, 2 amputated fingers, a reconstructed nose, and undergone laser scar resurfacing more times than I can count. Everything is all perfect, well, and good until it isn’t. Don’t take anything for granted, don’t make your life dependent on what others say about you; just be the best YOU and control what you can. You don’t have to be perfect, nobody is. But you sure as hell can make the most of what you have, of what you’ve been given, until your time is officially up.

This made me cry. Thank you so much for your advice. I have just started running and because I put so much strain on myself I have to do physiotherapy. There is a 5k run in a couple of weeks and I'm sure I'll be the last one to complete, if I can complete at all. I was getting demotivated looking at the time records of the previous year's run. I take an hour to run the Run. But I really want to run. I was having second thoughts because I'll be the last one and laughed at. But this inspired me. TWO human beings lost their lives in the car crash. Kiptum and his coach. Often a coaches role in an athlete's life journey is greatly under appreciated. They are the unsung heroes. They perform the parental role because they spend so much time together, they act as mentor and guide and they are there in the tough moments. Needless to say, Kelvin Kiptum would not have achieved what he already had without Gervais Hakizimana, may the two men rest in peace.

RIP Kelvin Kiptum. I don’t know your name, but I always watch your channel for athletics events. This video increases my respect and appreciation for your channel and your person. A really beautiful video on him and a beautiful review on Kiptum tragically short career. @@justinnevins107 Yes. Even over here in England, Prefontaine inspired me to run like the wind as a teenager in school. We all had the long hair, moustaches and sideburns (if you were lucky).
Also today, spare a thought for the great Belgian runner, Ivo Van Damme. After winning 2 silver medals in Montreal 1976, was tragically killed in a car crash in December 1976 - aged just 22.

I've been a basketball player since i was a kid. About a year or so ago i saw Kelvin running the Chicago marathon. I caught the last 10 minutes of his run on tv. I saw him break a world record. I saw how hard he was working himself. I realized that day that running was so much more than I'd ever thought. I've never been a "runner" but i began walking/jogging routinely at least 3 times per week. I never cared about jogging before i saw kelvin run that marathon but something connected with me and i got hooked. Even started timing myself. 😂 this guy was truly a g.o.a.t. and he inspired this 44 year okd very quickly. Fly hi Mr. Kiptum. You will be missed dearly. I'll keep jogging because of you. 🖤🦾😤🇺🇲

He was the most exciting athlete that I was looking to see for the Olympic games and his WR attempt of a potential sub 2 hr attempt. I can no longer see the marathon the same, it simply is not fair, he did not deserve this or his coach, may he rest in peace.

Regardless of records, not only an athlete died, but a very young man, brother and son. Having humble origins, and being the star that his family was so proud of, I can’t imagine the pain and grief.. it’s never those who left but always those left behind who
Suffer the most. May he rest in peace and may his family and friends not break and find solace in knowing that their son, albeit not physically, is still with them.
