To be honest, since I started following Josh on Instagram, I have been paying much more attention on nice dogs on the street. I'm probably not the only one.
I like the point you made about letting the streets take you (go with the flow). I’m trying to build confidence to take photos of people (I primarily take pictures of buildings / landscapes) and not thinking too hard about it a really good tip 👌🏻
I’ve noticed that, as I grown from my teens into my 20s and 30s, people usually didn’t “mind” but now they will absolutely notice me and even come ask questions if I stand at a certain spot for too long or if I point the camera at them. Not sure if it’s just that people give more of a pass to teenagers (they shouldn’t) or if my body language has changed significantly so as to affect my presence in a negative way. Or maybe as years have gone by and with the rise of cameras, people are just more aware of being photographed and observed, in some way - but it really should be the opposite, shouldn’t it? Regardless, I’ve had my share of unpleasant interactions, to the point where I get equal parts anxious and excited when going out to shoot. I do occasionally get “lost” in a place and time just flies. When I first visited London, 9 years ago, I was absolutely transfixed by St. Pancreas. Stood there taking pictures, admiring the building and ended up being surprised by security, asking why have I been taking pictures of the building for so long. They were kinda right - I stood there for close to 1h30.
I've been looking at street photography for sometime now on Instagram and I've got to say your photos are so beautiful and vibrant, I think some of the best photos I've seen in a long time, how do you get that wonderful light, do you go out early mornings for the soft light or is it done in editing . Great work
I completely agree with you regarding trying to plan it. Recently I've tried to head out and shoot something in particular, but I always get caught up in so many moments, scenes etc that I tend to forget the aim. But that's the beauty of it, isn't it? To kinda get lost in street photography.

I lived in London for a year and this video made me feel like I was back for a few minutes, the shot at 7:15 as you're just about to hop on the tube is a gem. Can you do a video of how you operate you're camera in manual as you browse the streets? Shutter speed, ISO, and Aperture - something I'm trying to master at the moment. Thanks again, what a great channel!
Great video Josh! Going to hit the streets of Quebec City (Canada) this weekend with my new M10. Hopefully, a nice blue, red and yellow dog will appear ;-)
A bit late to this one Josh but I'm really warming to your humility and self-deprecation. I like the suggestion of not planning a route in any detail but being more spontaneous. I've done a few photowalks in London when I used to go there for work regularly. These days it's Norwich on a Saturday morning. It's about as big as Angel tube station but there's still room for a bit of random wandering. Like you most of my shots won't get me a Magnum membership and like you I enjoy the journey. I might drop one or two on instagram if I get back on it. Love the pigeon shot on this vid and the one of the woman after that.
just to say: when did you shot all of those street photographies? during the virus pandemy? police patrolling and say nothing? most of people doesn't wear a protective mask, and most of the ones they do, just placed in the chin
You may have covered this already in a previous video but how do you deal with taking pics of people/ dealing with consent to take pics/ not caring about being confronted or challenged?
I love this series already great video 👌 josh do you ever shoot from the hip? I only ask because I find when I bring my camera up to my face in certain situations it draws more unwanted attention to me

Shooting in sunny day gives a much more opportunities, how about dealing with cloudy day ? I think that is a good topic to mention at some point that people would like to watch . Good video ! , now is time to go see what grey London can offer today :)

"Sometimes you come home with nothing..." That's exactly what I thought when I saw the pictures in the video. The question then is: why make a video, when you don't' have to show anything except for some pretty standard tips...?
