My film is about the Eastern Woodlands and her film is about the Desert and High Desert. It's a winning combo with techniques that are applicable to many other areas as well.

The Gray Bearded Green Beret nice clip very informative especially the knapping section, I was thinking the bits of shards could be used with a steel for fire lighting as well. Production and audio is awesome as well.

The Gray Bearded Green Beret This just kicked my excitement up a couple notches. I follow you, corporal, and Dave Canterbury religiously but don’t often see much that applies to my area. Here in eastern Colorado it’s all high desert and plains.

I'd like to see her get her own channel it would influence more women to be come involved in survival/bush crafting.
As would I but she’s not a fan of social media so that won’t happen. I want to make more films with her which is a strong possibility.
I concur! I'll learn from who ever knows what they are doing, but as a woman it's nice to get this information from another woman, and I agree with Gary Lee. To a lot of people having a role model, someone like them, makes a big difference in helping them realize they can do it too.
@@TheSurvivalSummit please do! She's a great teacher. I think she would be an important role model to a lot of women and girls too. When I was a girl (decades ago) learning bushcraft and survival I would have thrilled to have a female role model.

That's nice! A true strong woman, an expert in a predominant male field, that is not entitled, doesn't make strange noises with her voice, doesn't dye her her hair in green or purple, and doesn't like social media... there not much of those WOMAN anymore... and this rotten world needs lots and lots of fine people like her and Joshua...
@@GAUROCH2 Agreed ! I'm a new subscriber to this channel, heard about it from Corporal's Corner - CPL Kelly fmr. USMC. I also subscribe to Ranger Survival & Fieldcraft - Major Andrew, Army Ranger, and Stoker-matic - SFC Stoker, US Army. (I'm a veteran NCO so I go towards others who served) The world could definitely do with more folks like these ! I've learned one hellova lot ! And I'm not one of those insecure men who refuse to learn from a woman. Two of my favorite Officers were ladies... and not just because they were "eye candy". They had damned good brains, knew their jobs, yet didn't "go butch" and lose their feminity. Oh yeah, and don't forget the "women" with the duck face, and silicone pumped lips... This is the ONLY "social media" I do...
Excellent and thorough presentation. I hope you do more of these in a series and maybe have these people do a video with you to combine your excellent wealth of knowledge and theirs too.

I rarely run across guys with our cool name !! I hated it as a kid, & most people called me Kenny, but when ya grow up things get real & you have go with it. I like it now.
She's one in a million...what an amazing block of instruction, so much covered in 30 minutes each topic could be its own class. And I was wondering what that white-handled knife was....a Cold Steel Bushman according to comments! Well I need to dig mine out and take another look at it! Great video like always.
Her film is over 5 hours long so you can imagine how many skills she covers in it. It’s insane how much knowledge she possesses. The white handled knife, if I remember correctly was a homemade blade. The handle had white grip tape on. I could be wrong, it was a few years ago.

Absolutely phenomenal instructor is correct.
...there is a special Mora model, similar to the one Kirsten is using, but with special san-mai blade, rat-tail (so stronger the the common Mora), and a leather sheath.
I am not a Mora fan, but that model is fantastic (it's my only Mora),and it is, by far, my sharpest knife and I love it (although the handle might get a bit sleepery, specially if soiled with grease or blood, but I improved it pyro engraving little dots all along the handle.

@Gauroch2... I've noticed that the majority of Fieldcraft UA-camrs use the Mora. From what I can gather, because it's tough, and quite inexpensive. I'm not a fan of the Mora either. Although I don't plan on using it for fieldcraft on a regular basis, I want a knife that can be used for that, and defense, within my budget... and "Made in America". I was considering the Ontario 499 USAF survival knife, but I read so many bad reviews. I ended up getting a Ka-bar Dogs Head, but the tang is rat tail. I think I'll save up for the TOPS Black Heat or Black Rhino

Good job on your presentation as many really are clueless about knife edikit .Having been a Chef for many years as well as a outdoorsman, I stress the pracice of safe knife handling, as I have seen some very bad accidents with them happen, and rushing people to the E.R.. Thank you.

I bought a camping spork that has a handy little small wrinch set that I put a single edge blade edge on the handle. It fixed my snowplow. @6:02 the word that you're looking for is "fulcrum point"

Depending where I am in a back country I often carry a trapper's knife and a stockman's knife.
The muskrat blade of the trapper's knife is excellent for skinning large game when you have to carry it out. I like the muskrat blade because it enables me when I'm preserving the hides.
On the other hand the spay of stockman's knife is excellent for skinning getting a small game. Again it's my intention to preserve the hide.
I also have a schrarade sharp finger knife I wear as a neck knife. The angles of the blade gives me multi-use of it especially while hunting.
I've often hunted in The valleys and Camping the mountains. When I am unable to get back to my campsite I can camp on the valley floor and skin and cook up what I hunted that morning.
I have a smaller fillet knife that I carry in a small survival tackle box for the days that I go and fly fish or just fish.

Thank you Kirsten and Josh for an excellent presentation on a very important subject.
It is evident that you have a vast knowledge base and people can learn a lot from you. Teaching is not easy. Expressing your thoughts in a logical way to someone that is learning ( they do not know what you are talking about ) is not easy. After all you know what you are talking about. Teaching in person is very different then UA-cam. You could have a group of people that are like minded, but on you tube you have no idea who is watching.
You were working in shadow. I couldn’t see what you were doing. I hope you will take what I am saying as constructive criticism and not a put down. I believe your knowledge is there and you have a future it teaching and in UA-cam. I support you as a woman in bushcraft. You can encourage other other women.
Keep in mind she isn’t the one running the cameras. If she is teaching in shadow that’s on the camera folks, not her

I have a variety of knives beginning with pocket knives and up to survival knives. My backpack have a folding knife and it used for use in food preparation and as a backup tool for survival purposes. On my utility belt is a full tang knife as my primary tool and is used for everything I can't use my folding saw for. I carry a sharpening stone with me when out camping and it can sharpen all my tools when in the field.

She teaches the topic very well, and good to have her introduce for I live out west, needed to have someone who can help me understand this climate. i've learned a great deal from you Joshua, enjoy you skills, etc., but some things are for the east. LOL
yeah i have seen this video before.. it is the text book for sure.. It is an out standing video.. one great point is her small woodwork and chopper combo.. I get the feeling that having the right well thought out tools is over really an important consideration and then once you make your choice train with the tool. I have been living with a ZT301 in my pocket. it was intimidating when i got it but after using it and practicing with it the knife and i have an understanding.. thanks for the reminder.. repetition, practice, improving technique and leaning and understanding theory will take you a long way J

Mr Joshua, though somewhat introverted and with a calm voice, is undoubtly a excellent leader, survival instructor and a person to trust!
Personaly, those flashy / trendy tv-stars / sofa-coachers are not my cup of tea... I do not like persons that bragg...

My urban carry I carry 2 folding knives one in each front pockets and one small fixed blade neck knife. When camping I carry multiple fixed blade knives, mainly the Esee 4 and 6. I want to purchase a good knife soon with a scandi grind. My bug out bag I have a gerber strongarm.
I really like her, I would definitely be interested in taking some survival courses from her
Awesome instruction.
Adding to 9:25 i woudl say, the sharper the blade, the less force you need to use and this limits the risk of loosing control when the wood gives in. Image a normal slice of wood with a sharp knive: Less force, way more control. And even if you cut yourself, the amount of power you need to stop your hand/arm from going in the wrong direction is less in comparison to a blunt knife where you add a lot of force to even make the cut through the wood. I teached that to my junior chefs, that only a sharp knife is a secure knife.

I recommend using a strop after using your knife not a sharpener. If you have not damaged it.

I would love to see how she sharpens her folding saw blades. I just buy replacements but I hate throwing them away.
I hand sharpen my wood working saws. Use a file or a small diamond file and follow the angles for a folding saw blade. You don’t need to set the kerf on it. The folding saw blade is not made to be resharpened. You can but the metal is hard and can’t be sharpened and reused as long as a high quality wood working saw. Paul sellers has good saw sharpening videos. Watch some and adapt it to the folding saw. Hope that helps.

@@ThrivingWithGaylaDGaia looks like the corona razortooth. I use the silky gomboy 240 and love it. Also have the pocket boy but the weight savings is not worth the lost length IMHO.

A Mora knife, a Gransfors ax and a Sandvik saw is what I carry in the woods.

I have never actually used it to be able to say. It is a really good price for CPM3V without question.
@@GrayBeardedGreenBeret i have ordered it and own the Garberg. I like Puuko style knives and this looks like a mix between a Mora and a Puukko knife. Nice sheath leather also. Thx for your answer maybe one day you would use one.
Just a mention not a criticism, she is teaching about knife safety and, with a knife in her hand reaches up and adjusts her hair with the knife in the same hand she does that with. She started me when she did that. lol

Thanks thats what I think I see too .I have been looking into getting a bushman because it is kind of light for the size it is. It looks crude to me but there is mixed reviews out there. Well she a instructor and it looks like she has been useing it for a while. It must be pretty good.since it kind of thin she must have put on that convex grind to reduce chipping from botoning.
How would know, that 360p might be needed here, so that blades can't take her shine fam
