Protomartyr is misschien wel de meest ongezellige band van Lowlands. Het is vrijdagmiddag, je komt binnen lopen in de India met een lekker fris raketje en daar staat een wat verveelde kantoorklerk op het podium die met een biertje in de hand de wereld toeschreeuwt dat ze naar de kloten gaat. Hij lijkt ook te twijfelen of hij zich niet moedeloos aan de toog van een kroeg moet zetten met een fles whiskey.
De zanger in kwestie is Joe Casey en hij is het nimmer stralende middelpunt van Protomartyr uit Detroit, een van de beste postpunk bands van de laatste jaren. Zie hier hun show op lowlands 2018 terug.

once we were on tv with our little shitty band and they invited us for the mixing and the first draft sounded exactly like this, absolutely dominant vocals then drums and then the rest. I was told it's because most televisions have bad speakers so the vocals kinda work as a focal point for the viewer to match the singer's mouth. anyway this is not tv and it is really unfortunate
