- Aston Villa face Arsenal at Villa Park on New Year's Eve 1988. The Gunners were looking for revenge after losing 3-2 to Villa on the second Saturday of the season. They also wanted to build some momentum as they mounted a serious title challenge. It was a game in which David Rocastle scored a brilliant goal. Martin Tyler was in the commentary box.

David Rocastle what a Great player and Arsenal legend
RIP David Rocastle brilliant goal from a brilliant talent YNWA
Brian Marwood. Possibly the most underrated player ever.
4:55 Tony Adams: the epitome of a captain, what a legend.
Can't even say "you gotta be kidding me" with that spectacular strike from Rocky! Can say "Top drawer" though. 👏👏👏👏⚽⚽⚽
Rocky scoring our second goal at Villa Park was so sweet.
Ah the days before tactics, 4-4-2 and boot it up the field.
yet, it's infinetly more exciting than the game today which is pass, pass, pass, pass zzzzzzz bring me full on action any day
Couldn't be more wrong.
Oh Rocky Rocky !!!! Loved him
Great player and underrated somewhat Kevin Richardson.
every arsenal player born in england. o'leary was born in stoke newington - london.
So fucking what?.
a different time mate might as well have been a million years ago.
Goalkeepers caught the ball and defenders hoofed It out of play if in doubt and all that.
0:55 is one of the greatest saves I've ever seen.
Oh yes.The days when you could make a challenge and contact didn't qualify as a foul.Up the Villa!
what a time to be alive... and nearly old enough to drink. great great times.
This brings back memories! I was there in the Trinity Road. Not seen footage of this before. We ( Villa) had a decent side but Arsenal were a class act. This was the year of the classic Liverpool title decider i think?
It was indeed the year. My old man & uncle were there to witness that “it’s up for grabs now” moment.
They went to this game too & I’m pretty sure that they said the Aston Villa fans applauded us off the field at full time.
Villa Park has always been a great away day. Nice old school ground but been a while since I went. Think it was when we had the mighty Chamakh playing upfront for us & I seem to recall that the donkey scored which for us was a bloody relief! I think it was 3-2 & Wilshere scored a last minute header but the headline act was Pires. The build-up was due to it being his first game against us.
Rocastle punished dem
My Dad took us to this game. We parked one street away from the ground and 2 Brummie kids offered to keep an eye on our car for £1 😂The man on the gate allowed me and my brother in through the same turnstile click for £1.50. Happy memories.
Was that Perry Groves or 'Tin Tin' playing for Arsenal?
God i miss them day's . And I was there as always back then....
RIP Rocky, a Gentleman off the pitch a warrior on it!
Commentary by Alan Partridge.
