My grandmother passed on what traditions she could. After my mom passed, my sisters and I began to reconnect and I am grateful for those that are helping us. Thank you for sharing this.

I’m Seminole, of Oklahoma. All of our ancestors made a sacrifice so that we could sing our medicine songs.. I deal with the daily living of maintaining two worlds… it’s hard still.. but hearing other voices doing what we do, in this modern world, mends my sore heart.
I miss the beautiful people... I feel lucky to have grown up in the Chiricahuas and Gila river and all the journeys fighting fires with San Carlos Apaches coming up the other side in the middle of the night and fighting the fire dragon till the sun rose... I am also honored to have ran part of the Spirit run up Mount Graham w the Apache runners (one of the most spiritual experiences of mine) ( me and my crew would cut many chords of wood and stack it for your ceremonial weekend at Treasure Park and near the sacred spring. Love your culture. Much respect!

My great uncle, Charles Martine Jr lived in New York in the early 1900s after POW status at Ft Sill Oklahoma. He married a Shinnecock lady and stayed there. He was the son of Chiricahua Apache scout Charles Martine Sr who helped the US find Naiche, Mangas and Geronimo in Mexico in 1886. Before they were a shipped to Florida, for the start of a 27 year imprisonment.
