You completely missed out on grip though, all wheels have grips for the 3 types of ground surface. Hard, Soft, and Crumbly. So an example of how this may of effected your testing is that Lunar Wheels are one of the only types that have poor traction on hard surfaces, like the concrete of the hangar, thus effecting your acceleration. All wheel types have different grips on 3 surface types. Even if you yourself don't know where to look for this data, it's something at least worth mentioning. Also, I would of liked it if you had covered if fused wheels have any effect, such as, do "mule" wheels have higher speed because less of your tonnage limit is getting used? IDK, and when I had heard you were making this video in discord I had hoped this is something you would of checked out.
The reason why Lunar IV and Gun-Mount score so low is because both of them have a piss-poor traction at hard surfaces. Incidentally the inside of a garage is hard surface. On all soft and viscious terrain these two ought to accelerate better than any other wheels since they have excellent traction on any other surface than hard.
This is very helpful! Note for developers - wheels are a huge pain in de butt to obtain and add. I recommend making them paired - you craft pairs, you sell pairs, you earn pairs in battles (of course you can use only one if you want). Crafting modules and weapons is easy, you can get away with one, NOT wheels - they should not cost double mats for the pair. Also, I recommend lumping st and fixed wheels, maybe after you slap them on you can indicate if you want turning or not.
so, you're just asking to half the price on wheels. Honestly i find wheels pretty cheap, for 100 coins you get 4 wheels of your choice. Compared to armored track you need at least 650 coins for 2 tracks.
„We‘re going to test top speed!“ *proceeds with acceleration test **ignores that some of the test subjects reach their specific top speed (tracks, hovers, meat grinder and legs are not affected by cabin/engine - exception: steppe spider cab) before ending the test run ***ignores different grip on different surfaces for each movement part Still a good video and it’s actually helpful, even though it doesn’t deliver the promised information.
I know this is an old video but just thought its worth mentioning here - another missed factor is that golden eagle has (as for 16.05.2020) increased top speed of tracks (im not sure if it did before but currently it does and makes a difference).
11 milliseconds is 0.011. If you meant 0.11, that's 110 milliseconds. But, never mind that, your counter isn't recording milliseconds. It appears to be recording up to 25 frames (00-24) per second.
Amazing test. We really needed this. The reason I think everyone thinks hovers are so fast is because they seem to travel just as fast in any direction.
I never actually got upset over this, but hovers + boosters did give them an advantage due to their frictionless nature, giving them quite a lead in races. But I always liked watching them fly by at high speeds. Unfortunately, I haven't had the opportunity to race since the boosters were changed. I really need to check it out!
Nope, because they suffer no negativ effects of terrain they are hovering over (height or type of terrain), while other movement parts DO. So hovers still move faster! Because they have no friction and accelarate at a constant rate regardless of the sorrounding terrian
Yeah... except go and test all these wheels on sand and water, you'll be surprised by the results. Lunars and gun-mounts are so much better then normal wheels on non-asphalt/rock surface. My personal favorite is combination of two racing wheels in back and two gun-mounts in front: can traverse any surface fast, plus gun-mounts are pretty slim and easily armored around (which is important because a lot of shots will be coming up your front). Or just use hovers - their turning, strafing and overall mobility makes up for the lower speed.
@@MrGPlays I think you could test speed, grip, turning angle, terrain and more.. I understand they take long time.. maybe just focus on all the factors that affect speed like traction and power delivery to the ground.
I'd say it's more interesting and provides an "idea" than "useful" since it doesn't accurately display how driving speeds work out in actual game play since it doesn't account for mass or surface type traction. An armoured tank track build with a lot of weighty armour and a decent engine can move surprisingly fast for a heavy build, almost as fast as my medium weight lunatic builds. Gun mount wheels definitely have a meta for being the fastest wheels because it performs better on the surface which is most abundant in crossout maps right now; not the surface of the hanger (seeing a concrete urban map would be great if only for the change, sort of like how the sand map was when it was first released). Though there's not really much you could do about the testing variables without full developer mode enabled since the only accurate way to measure it is to begin from the hanger like Mr G has.
I've noticed larger differences under a payload. Add about 2-3000 to the carried weight and do the test again, and you will see some of those identical numbers spread out. Alternatively, using the duster cab would have been best because it has a very low power score compared to the tusker
Tbh I just ditch the cheetah for an extra booster.. I have 14 boosters and a cheetah. But I'm going to ditch the cheetah for booster.. as you don't need it.. it's extra weight. And most of your acceleration comes from your boosters... Especially in that amount... I guess it depends on the quantity of booster that you have.. but for me I don't see it worth having the cheetah. It's great. But in competitive races I'd just ditch it..
I always felt that the Medium wheels were faster than the Starter wheels... but then again I also was sliding around a bit more with the Starter wheels. Is there a friction difference between the different wheels?
I would be curious about a comparison where the vehicle would be balanced out to have the same weight every time. No wonder the large wheels make you slower when they weight 360 kilos each. I think the real difference would show if the weight differences would be negated. Also, I think hovers are not op because of the top speed, but because they are often on light crafts which can accelerate quickly in any direction, on any terrain, strafe quickly in an out of cover, etc. It makes them challenging (although satisfying) to hit with projectile weapons like cannons and rockets.
Is there a speed difference between steering & non steering wheels? Can you do an updated test with the new Founder's legs, please? Do any of the cabs speed up the tracks? New Founder's cab?
Nice test indeed Mr G, but I feel a big part of the differences also come from getting up to speed, the acceleration from zero to top speed. Perhaps in addition to this test we could see some differences based on top speed instead of acceleration. The ranking might end up the same, but the difference in speed in relation to the the difference in durability might be worth investing in 'slower' movement parts? For instance starter wheels might be fast, but above x PS you dont want your wheel taken out every time an enemy shoots at you. Staying on the move has benefits because of faster reaction to the environment (opponents) as well as certain modules (reload/cooldown). Thanks for you feedback.
One question, does -0.15 engine power mean: its reduced by 15%? or what does that number mean? And if it does mean percentage of engine power: when you add 7 of these movement parts, would the ride be unable to move at all (witout additional power through engine)?
The spreadsheet seems to be a bit messed up, at least it does for me.15 rows with data below every colored row that seems correct but the colored parts might be old data?
So say I have a build with two landing gear wheels at the front, four racing wheels in the middle, and two twin wheels on the back, would my build only go as fast as the twin wheels allow or somewhere between twin and racing wheels?
You didn't test the Small Tracks with the Golden Eagle engine? It's not bad on a Duster (Lightest cabin, tops out @95 Km/H) Basically the equivalent of Steppe Spider, what I use on my Sniper Tank.
I know this is a comment on a not current video BUT I wanted to say, you should test the times for speed withing like 3 feet of acceleration vs once the vehicle hits top speed. I have a melee vehicle and since I have stealth I don't care about top speed nearly as much as I care about acceleration. But once I contact the enemy I want to be able to maneuver around them faster than they can around me. This would be especially useful if my stuff breaks on impact or from taking shots on approach.
Got an idea now you have the speeds. Compare the hit points based on how many you typically put on a medium sized vehicle... say 2 armored treds 4 small treads 6 large tires, and 8 small tires. Is 2 armored tracks... to weight... so many hit points per pound and the speed. Also you need to understand there is also power score and special abilities, but most have no special abilities or very little. There is one thing to not... certain terrain affect the tires different, like sand and water and stuff like the walkers and hovers get to ignore this. they also tend to slide over obstacles so they are more likely going to maintain their speed easier.
great test, i think you should do it again but trying to start on a more loose terrain, the hard terrain of the garage is the reason why gun mount and lunar IV got so bad scores, and i think you should try to do the EXACT same test but with 6 wheels of each type BTW great video, i was about to craft some blue wheels but didn't knew which one

It is almost a direct correlation between tire profile and speed. Excellent data.
I didn't think about it that way. Good point.
