Honestly I think the main reason that the Wolves defense looked better in this game is because Dallas was missing Lively, who is their super efficient and impactful short roll decision maker. Gafford has hands of stone and rarely makes the right play when he catches the ball off the short roll, and the times he doesn't just immediately fumble the ball away are pretty rare. Lively is basically the opposite where he rarely loses control of the ball on the catch, and 90% of the time makes the correct decision between passing to a shooter or driving for a dunk/layup.
Also I feel like the Mavs, especially Kyrie, were forcing contested shots against KAT/Gobert at the rim instead of taking the mid range shots that were available all night. You could tell Kyrie was not confident in his shot in game 4 and instead of taking 10-15 foot shots he normally is very good at, he was trying to force it at the rim against the Wolves' bigs.
Both Mavs stars had their worst game of this series, and both Wolves stars had their best game of the series, and it was still down to the wire so I'm not super worried about the Mavericks tbh.
If KAT doesn't randomly hit 3 straight 3's after being mediocre all game the Mavericks would have won too

Bro game 3 Lively wasn’t in for most of the game and they got multiple lobs to Gafford and Jones…you forgot they lost that game? YEA I’d say they actually figured out how to guard the lob and ppl see the crazy shots by Kyrie and Luka, but that is NOT what beat them the most. Ppl like you be forgettin how the Mavs tore them to shreds with those lobs and that broke down their d which led to easy OPEN shot after shot. YES 🙌🏽 they switched up the defense this series is going to 7!

@@angelg8445 Lively is also the best lob catcher. And he's by FAR a better passer than Gafford. It wasn't the main reason Twolves won game 4, Ky and Luka's shooting performances did. But it was certainly a factor there wasn't a sweep

Don’t strike me down for blasphemy, but I think this one is a bit of a stretch, coach. No Lively, Irving had one of his worst games of the entire postseason, KAT actually remembered that he’s 6”11 and not Steph Curry, and the Wolves still barely scraped by with a win.

Wolves in 7 is the only thing stopping North Korea POOP BALLOONS GAME 7.
As a Mavs fan, I agree, but I was noticing we weren't getting the lobs we usually do and our shot quality was lower than the first three games. While I think we should have won if Kyrie and PJ didn't have an off game, it's nice to know what Minnesota did better from a basketball standpoint.

This didnt look different to me than the other nights - it just worked, bc Lively was on the bench. Covering one lob threat is very different than covering two, especially when all of a sudden Ant is engaged bc he can get his easy elbow jumpers without fear of being swallowed alive...ly.
I'm not a Mavs fan by any stretch, but Lively's embrace of doing what he can do well, and what is asked, and nothing more, has been a sea-change for Dallas. The kid is unreal.

In my opinion there are 3 ways a team can come back from down 0-3.
1.)The losing team gets back a player(s) from injury and they play perfect.
2.)The winning team completely has a complete meltdown and sells or has an injury.
The third and my opinion is which I think the Timber wolves can do
3.) The talent/skill gap between the teams is so small that if the series and conditions are correct the losing team can win.
Let me give you an example. Say the winning team in the 3 wins is decided by a margin of 1 point. Meaning all 3 of the wins were 1 point victories(This is an extreme example but one nonetheless). If the losing team can manage to slightly tip the scales and perfectly create an advantage they are able to rattle off 4 straight wins.
The reason it is near impossible to come back down from 0-3 is you have to sweep a team (4 straight wins) that almost nearly swept you. This is the angle in which I take my 3 reasons.
Games 1-2 Mavs won on final possession, which in each game if referees call differently, W would have gone to wolves.
What's more, mavs sold out with 110% effort to win both of those games whereas wolves were more flat at 85% and 90% effort. They have another level they can reach.
Essentially this series could easily be 3-1 for wolves right now. If they can up the effort they can win game 5 at home. Then if mavs play flat in game 6, we go to game 7 and wolves at home
@@JD-mz1rl By what metric do you measure effort? The way I see it, the Mavs have 2 elite, experienced playmakers. The Wolves have 1, who is still relatively inexperienced and still developing. The rest are primarily role/limited players. Thus, the Mavs are far better in clutch situations.
Blaming referees for the final outcome of games is highly subjective.

This was pretty obvious. Every commentator and even the Wolves themselves commented on how tired they were during game 1. It was very obvious to see. Meanwhile Mavs were playing both game 1 and 2 like it was game 7. This was also picked up by many observers, noting how Mavs have gotten off to a slow start in the other series.
The point of the referee calls is that they waived off points (game 1) and changed possession (game 2) at the very end of the games where in both games, if the calls went the other way, it virtually guaranteed wolves win. That isn't subjective, that's just stating what would happen if the call went the other way to suggest how close the games were.
@@JD-mz1rl Sorry, I don't buy the tired excuse. It's too often used to ignore the lack of inexperience, talent, or execution by the losing team. Historically, many older playoff teams have powered through fatigue.
By the same logic, we could suggest that the Mavs lost game 4 due to fatigue and could reverse the trend in the next game.
In a close game, calls at the end of the game are too often over-emphasized while calls throughout the entirety of the game are ignored. Lots of what if's.

You could say the exact same about Ant and Kat in the first 3 games, if they just hit their averages it's a different series. In fact, one or 2 different calls from the ref and it's a different series. Neither of these teams is significantly better than the other, and I would argue that Minnesota is actually more complete, but less dynamic offensively. A team with more offensive threats and shot creators would definitely exploit the Mavs weaknesses...
