He’s a very traumatic character tbh. The recent event just highlighted more of how tragic Childe is. “Whats wrong being a weapon”, he spoke in a rather painful tone. He’s yearn for battle is his way to cope with his trauma. If Mihoyo ever makes Childe to be open about his trauma to the traveler. Pretty sure the community will explode.

Yeh, sad, Ajax as a kid fell into the abyss, while still being a child he was forced to face countless battles. He got stronger and addicted to fighting and his father got worried for him

I love how he's acting all friendly, and made us babysit his little brother the whole story quest when he literally almost killed the shit out of us during the Golden House.
Yeah and he regretted it. What I like about Childe is that he has character development. He was so cocky and arrogant, he didn't think he would lose to the traveler. But after he lost he gained a lot of respect to the traveler.

I think the saddest thing about Childe’s story is that he doesn’t even really wanna do most of the stuff he does as a harbinger. He joined the Fatui cause it was the only way he can be part of the battlefield. There is even a lore entry where he talks about wishing to abandon his duties and join you on your travels.

@@Shadow-yc7yy Tbf there's a high probably the Tsaritsa herself and her cause is right, and it's just a lot of the people who follow her are bad with the same ideals and a lot of the tactics she needs to deploy are shady. Considering all of the archons so far don't care about their connection to Celestia, maybe the Tsaritsa wanting to rebel against Celestia itself isn't on paper an evil idea.

I totally agree, during Liyue's main quest he was often a jerk, and sus af, I didn't like how I felt "stalked" by this guy every time I had to talk to someone in Liyue.
But this quest made me re-evaluate him completely, the fact that he would quit his position and join the Traveler on their adventure was the final blow.
Tartaglia's a guy that enjoys fighting above everything else, and loves his family dearly. I appreciate him for his simplicity, despite him having a complex character.

yeah, before his quest i genuinely really didnt like Childe, but after seeing how he acts around his brother really reminds me of myself with my sister lol- i cried a few times during the quest
I really didn’t like what he did in the archon quest because he seemed like a really chill and nice character. I’m glad that he got the side quest because we got to see the side of Childe outside his duties as a harbinger. Childe also mentions that he doesn’t really agree with what the tsaritsa is doing and one of the trailers for Genshin impact says that the people of Snezhnaya are trying to get on the tsaritsa’s good side because she’s plotting something. I think that since Childe enjoys fighting, he could channel it into duties of the fatui while getting his family on the tsaritsa’s good side

Childe was a character I partly trusted, but after Golden House, I understood he doesn't take things personally and see him as a great character. This was further emphasized when I did the story quest.
Also, can we just appreciate the quality of the cut-scenes we get for the side and story quests?
I've never trusted him at all, but I've also never disliked him. It's clear to him everything he does is for his job unlike some other people.. He definitely separates his job from his personal life, as shown by this quest. Now, this still doesn't necessarily mean he's a good person. We need to know more about him and how his job operates to know if his behaviors are justified by it just being work. But for now, I'll assume he's like a soldier and keep the awful crap he does during work separate from who he is as a person.

Deep down Childe isn't a bad person. He's just in a bad situation, and I feel so bad. I feel like when he tried to destroy liyue was the game trying to show us what erosion was before we knew what it is.
I wouldn't say he wanted to destroy Liyue but it was supposed to happen since that's what Signora offered to Zhongli.
Zhongli wants to retire and the best thing he thought was this. To prepare Liyue if their archon suddenly dies and faced with a sealed terror.
Let's take this as a play. The MC and Childe were the driving force while Liyue is the star. It was too much and the CN community criticized the writing for it because as someone who was supposed to be the ideal chinese god or emperor (insight) I do think it was too much but Liyue pulled through then again, still risky.
Signora even said Childe went off script and went to the Golden House. There's nothing for Childe to gain harming civilians because it doesn't make him stronger. Not like if they were then he would commit such acts but among the Harbingers, Childe's lust for battle is somewhat good compared to Dottore lol!

Honestly one of my favorite characters
at first i didnt like him as much, i mean i could understand that he values the fatui and the tsaritsa more over someone he only met for a brief of time but still, i didn’t like any of the fatui that much but this quest changed my opinion on him. yes, he while he is doing things for the tsaritsa he is willing to betray those who he has “befriended” but when he’s not acting or doing his duties as a “harbinger” he’s actually an incredibly sweet and genuine guy, especially towards his family. this quest was really sweet and was also the exact reason why i spent all of my pulls on him and now i’m having lots of fun using him even if it’s just for exploration.
Childe is such a sweet and incredible guy, he just works in the wrong side...

Childe's story is actually pretty sad I mean his real name is Ajax but goes by alias so that it would never involve his family. Also other harbingers avoid him because whenever he creates a disaster of the particular situation. In his youth days, he fell into the Abyss and was trained. If you have played the "We will be reunited" quest then you can see that the Abyss Herald's moveset are pretty similar to Childe's water blades moves. It is also said that Childe's Foul Legacy transformation was given when he was in the Abyss.That's why he prioritises his young brother's dreams.Such a sad story

I was so fucking disappointed when Childe, someone who once went to Abyss, didn't appear in the latest story chapter lmao. Well, maybe next time. Childe is such a nuanced and interesting character (my favorite) and just REEKS of someone who deserves consistent, repeated showings as the plot unravels.

WHY is Snezhnaya still so far off 😭
I can now understand why Childe is a accessible Genshin character. I thought it was weird to have a Fatui member be a accessible character since all the other characters were good guys and the Fatui are you know...bastards, but now it seems that he’s actually somewhat a good guy in a way. Who knows maybe he might join the good side when the plot gets more complex or maybe when there’s a big time fight where every character needs to team up.
Edit: If you’re wondering why I consider the Fatui bastards then go check the reply section and scroll to the bottom there you will see my reply. I replied why the Fatui are messed up people and why I personally consider them a danger to society.
Well in Honkai Impact (another game by mihoyo) they also have the bad guys as playable characters, so it wasn't much of a suprise to me.
Well he did say (i think Teucer said it) that if an opportunity exists he will let go of his job and join MC for an Adventure.

Fatui being the bastards is probably debatable, I am sure that they'll reveal that the Fatuis are actually fighting the monsters and since nobody believes them they use the force to fulfill their plan to save the world or something.. the fatuis are shown as more than just bad guys multiple times, they can't just be considered plain assholes anymore
when u talk to some of the Fatui member npc, not all of em are annoying, and even the Fatui's military. ( in Ganyu quest, That one Cryo fat guy who were enjoying some berries in Qingce Village, when we suddenly came beat his ass cuz of misunderstanding and instead of apologizing Paimon says some racist word toward him)

I’d like to add in that Ajax, Childe’s real name, was a person in Greek Mythology who fought along with his half-brother Teucer… and Ajax died (possibly infront of Teucer but I don’t remember well)

notes on the comment section i'm taking for myself for a brief character analysis. don't read this actually. it's needlessly long.
childe nearly destroyed liyue for the gnosis. with this information, you would assume that he is a complete and utter psychopath with disregard for human lives.
however, take into account that he actually mentions that he doesn't like bringing the common people into large scale battles. (his wording in the english version is more dismissive and a lot more arrogant, but in the chinese one he was much softer.)
furthermore, consider the fact he joined the fatui at a very young age for a soldier, (14-15), and thus has probably been witness to the fatui's internal dealings (e.g. dottore making people into machines and experimenting on children, the absolute sadism of scaramouche, etc. we haven't even met all the harbingers yet, but dottore and scaramouche are already implied to be far worse than he is.) he has probably grown numb to his "work", which is not an excuse, but it is a reason for his perspective on things. in the recent labyrinth event, he actually very briefly mentions his status as being wielded as a weapon, rather than being a human being, which is, unfortunately, a heavy death flag if he's starting to disregard his own humanity, because when a character considers themself a weapon that usually means, other than their own humanity, they disregard their own life, seeing it as something to be used by an authority (in this case, the higher-ranking harbingers, the tsaritsa, the traveler, possibly zhongli.)
destroying liyue for the gnosis was specifically a mission given out to him. yes, one that he was particularly interested in on account of his eagerness to battle, but a mission, likely given to him by the tsaritsa himself on account of how large-scale it is. additionally, he was not clued into the fact that the mission in its entirety was a false narrative created by zhongli.
on top of that, to him, it was a mission. the fatui are a black-market military organization who clearly disregard human lives. if he failed that mission, either he would be punished, or, worse in his case, his family would have been punished.
so, if he thought he failed (the traveler getting to the gnosis before him) it would make sense for him to snap, because failing a mission likely puts him in danger, and by extension, his family. by the time the battle with the traveler ends, he realized he made too many assumptions and calmed down, then went on with the next phase of the mission to likely force the gnosis out (and, considering all the stuff about the sigil of permission, he was not entirely the one orchestrating the "destroying liyue" mission, since recreating ancient artifacts definitely isn't his specialty, AND it was revealed later that. y'know. zhongli and signora set him up. if he DIDN'T go through with attempting destruction of liyue, for all he knew, teucer and his other family members would've been handed over to dottore or something. just something to think about.)
tl;dr
childe has too many death flags and he is probably one of mhy's most complex and fascinating characters. like him or hate him, he's definitely well-written. if he's given reasons for you to fiercely love or fiercely despise him, that only goes to show his depth. heart of depth. best 4pc set for main dps childe. ba dum tsss.

Thats debatable, HoD 4pc does nothing for tartaglias burst and riptide procs and those counted together account for about 50% of all his damage even in a single target situation. Depends on the situation and how invested said childe is but rule of thumb is if you actually need to aa for at least 7 secs after bursting then 4pc HoD is doing some work, and if you arent then consider 2pc HoD + 2pc glad/shim or even 4pc emblem for sweet er% and bonus burst dmg.

The reason:
I simped for him the moment I saw him ♥
His whole character just felt so nicely done. All of his actions were understandable, even sometimes borderline evil, but I just loved his mischievous nature and warm personality. I mean even when he was the bad guy he was kinda nice to us, calling us comrade and basically playing with us while aiding us in our scavenger hunt. Even when he lost, he took it with pride and challenged us again, using his loss as a reason to grow even stronger.
When his story came out, I just loved him all the more.
I always liked Childe but when I saw this quest on YT I absolutely adored him more. I kinda wish the traveler flicked Childe on the forehead before he left. I just think that would’ve been cute.

nahhh childe is a good bro and teucer has the other older siblings at home to probably keep him in line (childe is actually the middle child, he has siblings older than him, two older brothers, specifically) and though he spoils him with presents, im pretty sure he gives important lessons to him as well, considering teucer says in the end "i cant have everything my way after all, that would be annoying!"
It's this reason i don't hate him, he's actually a pretty well self-aware character for a boy of his age. Even with his occasional short attention-span like most kids have. It could be how they're raised over in Snezhnaya, or at least the less fortunate families there. Could be the humble parents paired with Childe's personality that helped him.
I have two siblings like Childe, and I wouldn't call myself spoiled. I'm lucky, though.

When you have Childe and learned that he once dreamed of becoming an adventurer then got it almost shattered when he was trap in the abyss yet survived and become who he is and a protector of his siblings' dreams, he gets my respect for him. He's like a foil to Bennett that is why I've always wanted them to have a conversation or at least an "about..."
I actually feel like Childe is quite a complex charachter, because there's more in him than just love to fight. He obviously loyal both to people and to his values, he's not dumb and quite optimistic. Also he loves his family so much, and thinking about his personality and social status, they are probably only people he's truly close with, and it just pains me thinking about how sad he should be to leave his siblings again and again and not being able to spend enough time with them. He wants to be a better brother but he must follow his harbinger's duties. Judging by his voicelines, he even dislikes all this harbinger stuff (besides fighting XD), but he still doing it not only to become stronger, but also for his country and tsaritsa.
As many people put it: he’s morally grey. Doesn’t quite fit the word villain or hero.
