I really wanna know what's your point of view between Shimano Stella or Daiwa Saltiga always giving us your most sincerely opinion and why you choose one before the another one in a Shore Jigging case. I am really sure many of us who follow you wanna know about your opinion on this two reels.
Hi Fran. The most common problem between reel brands and anglers is that most people act like they are football teams. I am a very realistic angler that wants to do his job with the less possible problems. If you check my videos, until 2015 I was a true believer of Shimano Stella. But my concern was that I needed to change gears once per year. Keep in mind that I am not a weekend angler and I might go fishing 3-20 days in a row many times per year. The 2008 Stella model was probably the last I enjoyed. The 2014 needed new gears in the first 4 months. Then on another 5 months. I changed reel and same problem. I am not in the mood to be in the middle of a fishing expedition and have gear problems. On the other hand the 2010 saltiga I used to have, is still like new. My honest and solid opinion is that Saltiga might never reach the perfect line management and smoothness Stella has, but Stella might never reach the durability of the saltiga gears and the efficiency of saltiga drag system.

Thank you so much again for the answer and for sare your experience with us, I have owned both of these two but never put it in the hard condition you do with an amazing fish like tuna, amberjack... Great video. Thank you Markos. If I may propose a topic for your series, that is rarely discussed on youtube videos, that is, choosing the size of hook and diameter/strength/material of assist cord, for making your own assist hook preparation, in relation to the size/dimensions of the jig and target species. I know this is important, for replacing assist rigs, especially when jigs come with no or weak assist hook rigs. There are lots of videos on tying assist rigs, but they never mention size of hooks and cord strength needed, per jig, and hook manufactures create hooks that are different sizes, even though they share the same size label as hooks from other manufactures, complicating the matter. Σκεφτόμουν ένα καλάμι SGS2 30-100gr και ένα μηχανισμό SGS6 5000 ή 6000. Θεωρείς ότι χρειάζεται να πάω στην σειρά SGS8 5000 ή 6000 για καποιο λόγω? Ποια είναι ή γνώμη σου? Σ' ευχαριστώ εκ των προταίρων και συνέχισε έτσι δυνατά για να μας κάνεις να σε απολαμβάνουμε.

14000XG for shore jigging ? This reel meant for offshore popping bro. Get a small sized reel XG or HG for shore jigging 5000 or 6000 sizes are better in Shimano where as in Daiwa you can go 4000 sized reel.

I've started using this summer reel with 7.2:1 for light/micro shore jigging and I have much more fish than before with 5.0:1 reel. This video explains why. I was thinking that I have placebo effect of better presentation.

Markos thank you very much for your clear and thorough explanation! I am now convinced to get myself a HG instead of PG/XG. However, I am still confused on rod selection as for me jig casting is mostly done offshore on a boat which makes a super long shore jigging rod impossible to use. Please advise if I should get a jigging or casting rod? I am going to put on PE3 this purpose.

For example, what would you advise me to buy for shore jigging with lures in the range 80-120 grams - a 6000HG reel with 5.7:1 ratio (103 cm line retrieve) or a 6000XG reel with 6.2:1 ratio (112 cm line retrieve)? Hi Marcos! I live far from the sea and fish in fresh water. Your videos convinced me that when I come to Greece to sunbathe, I have to combine pleasant and useful, which means fishing. Give me some advice, I have a regular 18 Stella 2500 and 18 Daiwa Exist 3000, these coils with 5.1 in my opinion are not PG and not HG. Hi ManVik For such small jigs you don't need to worry about your reel too much, since it is an opportunistic fishing and not dedicated shore jigging. For your information 5.1 reels are considered power gear.

I am a big fan of yours...as per your recommendations i switched to a high gear reel ( shimano saragossa 5000 ) with a gear ratio 6.2:1...i had a older pg reel with a gear ratio 4.9:1 that worked perfecrly for jigging before...now with the new hg reel i have a problem that the treble hook on the jigs gets more tangled with the leader which i didn't face this problem much before with the pg reel...any suggestions ?
Hi Elias. It seems that finally your jig has a very alive action. However the 6.2:1 Gear ratio is probably to fast so you can simply adjust your jigging style tempo a bit slower. Also that means that your assist hooks are probably too long, or have too soft cord without fluorocarbon core, that is a mistake. Please try to see what from all these is wrong 🙂

Markos, can you please explain why are XG reels not as good as HG for shore jigging. As far as I know they are usually used on smaller reels so the retrieve value is the same as HG on bigger spool.

Great video and huge fan. But I have problem my area is shallow and I need much much longer casting distance, wich reel do you recomend? Jigs are from 40 do 80 grams, maybe penn spinfisher 6 long cast or something else?

You mentioned pelagic species! Amberjacks and bonitos can be very active in the winter! But bottom species can be very slow! We are mainly slow on bottom species!

Yes I guess this model should cover you perfectly! You will have super casting and enough power to handle such fish! It stacks perfectly with your reel and has great balance!

οι σειρές DURO αν μιλάμε για Zenaq προορίζονται κυρίως για plugs και λιγότερο για jigs φίλε Χρήστο και εκεί βάζουν και extra high gear αν παρακολουθήσεις. Στα yamaga με HG δεν είχα νιώσει κάτι το ανάρμοστο. άλλωστε πολλοί τα έχουν συνδυάσει με ΗG και δεν έχουν θέμα. Θα επιμείνω ότι οι γρήγοροι μηχανισμοί σε πιο fast καλάμια εξομαλύνονται με τον ρυθμό του τζιγκαρίσματος. Φυσικά ο καθένας μπορεί να ε΄χει την άποψή του, η οποία προέρχεται από εμπειρία, αντίληψη ή ακόμα και από προγενέστερη επιλογή μηχανισμού... Το τελικό αποτέλεσμα είναι ότι στην Ιαπωνία ΔΕΝ θα βρεις Shore jiggers με power gear μηχανισμούς σε shore jigging εύκολα σε οποιοδήποτε καλάμι... Κάτι θα ξέρουν...
@@MarkosVidalis Καταρχάς ευχαριστω για το χρονο σου και την αποψη σου.Το duro της zenaq έχει ενα μοντέλο για jigs αποκλειστικά και ενα για plugs αποκλειστικα.Τυχαινει να εχω για τους πλανους.Με saltiga 4500H και σε βάθη εως 30 μέτρα που ψαρεψα ο πλανος σερνοτανε και η μυτη σχεδον δεν δουλευε μιας και το μοτερ ηταν και γεμάτο.Ετσι ενιωθα μονιμα μια αντισταση στο χέρι μου χωρις να παιζει η μυτη στο καλαμι.Αυτο με ακομα και ενα hg μοτερ 4000 σε daiwa δεν το ειχα γιατι ο πλανος ειχε το"χρονο" να πέσει και λιγο.Οσο για Ιαπωνία οι περισσοτεροι οντως ψαρεύουν ακομα και xg 6.2 μοτέρ γιατι αποτι βλεπω σε βιντεο τουλαχιστον ψαρευουν κυριως plugs στον αφρό και δεν βγάζουν ολη μερα τα χερια τους στα μεταλλα.😅💪🐟.Παντως σιγουρα ειναι προσωπικές επιλογες και σιγουρα εχεις γραψει περισσοτερα χιλιομετρα απο ολλους στο αθλημα ώστε να εχεις μια πιο σφαιρικη γνωμη .Η γνωμη μου ειναι οτι ενα fast- extra fast καλαμι το ψαρευεις πολυ πιο ομορφα με ενα πιο αργο μοτερ ακομα και hg αλλα που να εχει ανακτηση κοντα στο 1 μετρο δλδ 95-105 εκ.
Χρηστάρα προφανώς έχεις το Duro 100h το οποίο κατά σύμπτωση ψάρεψα πρόσφατα στο νησί (Τήνος), όπου το έχει καλός φίλος και γνωστός εδώ, και είχαμε την ίδια συζήτηση. Και εδώ ο μηχανισμός είναι με Saltiga 4500H. Αν βρεις κάποιον να σου δώσει ένα γρήγορο μηχανισμό όχι για μια βολή, αλλά για μερικά ψαρέματα ώστε να το συνηθίσεις θα δεις ότι αν μειώσεις το εύρος κίνησης, θα βρεις το αποτέλεσμα. Φυσικά και αφιερώνω χρόνο φίλε! Και θα σου πω το καλύτερο παράδειγμα. Όταν έφυγα από Muthos 96HH και πήγα σε Accura 100Η (που είναι αρκετά πιο γρήγορο), έκανα να πάρω ψάρι σωστό, πάνω από ένα μήνα. το μυαλό και το χέρι προσπαθούσαν να δώσουν την κίνηση που ήξεραν και αυτό έμοιαζε τόσο λάθος. και ήταν... Σιγά σιγά κατάλαβα ΄τοι έπρεπε να αλλάξω ρυθμό και εύρος, πιο απλά μίκρυνα την κίνηση και άλλαξα το "τέμπο'' και το αποτέλεσμα ήρθε. το καλάμι σου είναι ειδικά φτιαγμένο για να δίνει άμεσα κίνηση στον πλάνο σε οποιοδήποτε βάθος και με οποιοδήποτε καιρό. Με ένα γρήγορο μηχανισμό και πάλι με μικρότερη προσπάθεια ια είχες το επιθυμητό αποτέλεσμα, να είσαι βέβαιος. Αν έχεις βολευτεί αργό μηχανισμό, δεν υπάρχει λόγος να αλλάξεις, όμως δεν είναι και λόγος να πιστεύεις ότι ένας γρήγορος θα ήταν λάθος. ίσως μελλοντικά με δικαιώσεις, γιατί όπως καταλαβαίνεις δεν είναι θέμα καπρίτσιου, αλλά θέμα πρακτικότητας για τα περισσότερα καλάμια που συνδυάζονται καλύτερα με γρήγορους μηχανισμούς. πίστεψέ με για τους Ιάπωνες, δεν έχουν ένα καλάμι και για plugs και jigs. όταν πάνε έχουν δυο τρια μαζί, και άλλο θα βάλουν για πλάνους και άλλο για plugs, και να είσαι βέβαιος ότι στο σετ για πλάνους οι μηχανισμοί έιναι γρήγοροι εώς πολύ γρήγοροι. σημειώνω ότι με extra high gear προσπάθησα αλλά δεν κατάφερα να ψαρέψω, παρόλα αυτά δεν μπορώ να πω ότι είναι λάθος επειδή δεν με βόλεψε, εφόσον γνωρίζω συναδέλφους που ψαρεύουν αποτελεσματικά σε κάθε βάθος και ρέμα... Δεν ξέρω πως το κάνουν, αλλά το κάνουν! PS το καλάμι σου είναι ένα δύσκολο καλάμι, αλλά αν το μάθεις καλά, δεν υπάρχει καιρός ή βάθος που θα μειώνει την απόδοση του πλάνου σου...

Θα μπορούσες να πάρεις το νέο καλάμι που σχεδίασα το SGS2 20-80gr και να το συνδυάσεις με τον μηχανισμό SGS6 6000. Θα είσαι πολύ δυνατός και το σετ δεν θα το αλλάξεις ποτέ

Hello Markos. Following you many years but first time commenting. Congrats, both for theory and also effectiveness. A lot of very useful information is always needed to improve our skills. Just wanted to ask, I recently bought the xzoga shoregame 96, to use with big minnows and medium weight jigs, matched with my Shimano Aero FA 4000 spinning reel and PE1.0 braid. In general is OK but cannot use PE2.0 braid with it, the capacity is nearly 200m only. Matching with my Ocuma Azores 5500 is impossible due to the heavyweight reel (I have the Hart Bloody EVO rod combined with the Azores reel and is excellent for me, only has slightly less retreiving ability per crank than I actually needed). Which one you think is a good shore jigging fast reel near 200€ to combine with the xzoga? For PE2.0 braid. Most of the times I am jigging in depths 50-80m with strong wind but no so strong currents. PG reels can use for need crank power by hand for exm. Fishing w/ live baits .. This is my opinion. But for jigging I think HG is always better than PG .. Nice video bro/

I really wanna know what's your point of view between Shimano Stella or Daiwa Saltiga always giving us your most sincerely opinion and why you choose one before the another one in a Shore Jigging case. I am really sure many of us who follow you wanna know about your opinion on this two reels.
Hi Fran. The most common problem between reel brands and anglers is that most people act like they are football teams. I am a very realistic angler that wants to do his job with the less possible problems. If you check my videos, until 2015 I was a true believer of Shimano Stella. But my concern was that I needed to change gears once per year. Keep in mind that I am not a weekend angler and I might go fishing 3-20 days in a row many times per year. The 2008 Stella model was probably the last I enjoyed. The 2014 needed new gears in the first 4 months. Then on another 5 months. I changed reel and same problem. I am not in the mood to be in the middle of a fishing expedition and have gear problems. On the other hand the 2010 saltiga I used to have, is still like new. My honest and solid opinion is that Saltiga might never reach the perfect line management and smoothness Stella has, but Stella might never reach the durability of the saltiga gears and the efficiency of saltiga drag system.

Great video. Thank you Markos. If I may propose a topic for your series, that is rarely discussed on youtube videos, that is, choosing the size of hook and diameter/strength/material of assist cord, for making your own assist hook preparation, in relation to the size/dimensions of the jig and target species. I know this is important, for replacing assist rigs, especially when jigs come with no or weak assist hook rigs. There are lots of videos on tying assist rigs, but they never mention size of hooks and cord strength needed, per jig, and hook manufactures create hooks that are different sizes, even though they share the same size label as hooks from other manufactures, complicating the matter. Thank you much.

14000XG for shore jigging ? This reel meant for offshore popping bro. Get a small sized reel XG or HG for shore jigging 5000 or 6000 sizes are better in Shimano where as in Daiwa you can go 4000 sized reel.

I've started using this summer reel with 7.2:1 for light/micro shore jigging and I have much more fish than before with 5.0:1 reel. This video explains why. I was thinking that I have placebo effect of better presentation.

For 40-60g jigs, both reels are ok. However I would go with the 5000

Markos thank you very much for your clear and thorough explanation! I am now convinced to get myself a HG instead of PG/XG. However, I am still confused on rod selection as for me jig casting is mostly done offshore on a boat which makes a super long shore jigging rod impossible to use. Please advise if I should get a jigging or casting rod? I am going to put on PE3 this purpose.
there are offshore cast jigging rods. I suggest you to search for 1.5m length rods. Some offshore popping rods could also work...

For such small jigs you don't need to worry about your reel too much, since it is an opportunistic fishing and not dedicated shore jigging. For your information 5.1 reels are considered power gear.

I am a big fan of yours...as per your recommendations i switched to a high gear reel ( shimano saragossa 5000 ) with a gear ratio 6.2:1...i had a older pg reel with a gear ratio 4.9:1 that worked perfecrly for jigging before...now with the new hg reel i have a problem that the treble hook on the jigs gets more tangled with the leader which i didn't face this problem much before with the pg reel...any suggestions ?
Hi Elias. It seems that finally your jig has a very alive action. However the 6.2:1 Gear ratio is probably to fast so you can simply adjust your jigging style tempo a bit slower. Also that means that your assist hooks are probably too long, or have too soft cord without fluorocarbon core, that is a mistake. Please try to see what from all these is wrong 🙂

Markos, can you please explain why are XG reels not as good as HG for shore jigging. As far as I know they are usually used on smaller reels so the retrieve value is the same as HG on bigger spool.
What you are saying it doesn't make any sense... However the crank power is very limited...

You mentioned pelagic species! Amberjacks and bonitos can be very active in the winter! But bottom species can be very slow! We are mainly slow on bottom species!

Yes I guess this model should cover you perfectly! You will have super casting and enough power to handle such fish! It stacks perfectly with your reel and has great balance!

Καλα ολα με την επιλογη μηχανισμού.Το καλαμι τι ρολο παιζει?Ενα πιο αργο καλαμι δινει λιγοτερη κινηση ενα πιο γρηγορο περισσοτερη.Προσωπικα με γρηγορο καλαμι και 5.7 μοτέρ ενιωθα να σερνω τον πλανο χωρις κίνηση.Θα ήθελα τη γνωμη σου αν θελεις.Ευχαριστω.
Δεν έχει να κάνει. Ο Ρυθμός τζιγκαρίσματος εξομαλύνει αυτό το πρόβλημα. Και εγώ γρήγορα καλάμια έχω πλέον με γρήγορους μηχανισμούς.
@@MarkosVidalis στα accura η αισθηση ειναι καλη λογω μαλακής μυτης.Σε duro η καποιο yamaga νιωθεις οτι το σετ ζοριζεται.Πιστευω θελει μια αρμονια το σύνολο απο αποψη δρασης καλαμιου και ταχυτητας μοτερ .Οπως και ναχει ευχαριστώ για την απαντηση σου.
οι σειρές DURO αν μιλάμε για Zenaq προορίζονται κυρίως για plugs και λιγότερο για jigs φίλε Χρήστο και εκεί βάζουν και extra high gear αν παρακολουθήσεις. Στα yamaga με HG δεν είχα νιώσει κάτι το ανάρμοστο. άλλωστε πολλοί τα έχουν συνδυάσει με ΗG και δεν έχουν θέμα. Θα επιμείνω ότι οι γρήγοροι μηχανισμοί σε πιο fast καλάμια εξομαλύνονται με τον ρυθμό του τζιγκαρίσματος. Φυσικά ο καθένας μπορεί να ε΄χει την άποψή του, η οποία προέρχεται από εμπειρία, αντίληψη ή ακόμα και από προγενέστερη επιλογή μηχανισμού... Το τελικό αποτέλεσμα είναι ότι στην Ιαπωνία ΔΕΝ θα βρεις Shore jiggers με power gear μηχανισμούς σε shore jigging εύκολα σε οποιοδήποτε καλάμι... Κάτι θα ξέρουν...
@@MarkosVidalis Καταρχάς ευχαριστω για το χρονο σου και την αποψη σου.Το duro της zenaq έχει ενα μοντέλο για jigs αποκλειστικά και ενα για plugs αποκλειστικα.Τυχαινει να εχω για τους πλανους.Με saltiga 4500H και σε βάθη εως 30 μέτρα που ψαρεψα ο πλανος σερνοτανε και η μυτη σχεδον δεν δουλευε μιας και το μοτερ ηταν και γεμάτο.Ετσι ενιωθα μονιμα μια αντισταση στο χέρι μου χωρις να παιζει η μυτη στο καλαμι.Αυτο με ακομα και ενα hg μοτερ 4000 σε daiwa δεν το ειχα γιατι ο πλανος ειχε το"χρονο" να πέσει και λιγο.Οσο για Ιαπωνία οι περισσοτεροι οντως ψαρεύουν ακομα και xg 6.2 μοτέρ γιατι αποτι βλεπω σε βιντεο τουλαχιστον ψαρευουν κυριως plugs στον αφρό και δεν βγάζουν ολη μερα τα χερια τους στα μεταλλα.😅💪🐟.Παντως σιγουρα ειναι προσωπικές επιλογες και σιγουρα εχεις γραψει περισσοτερα χιλιομετρα απο ολλους στο αθλημα ώστε να εχεις μια πιο σφαιρικη γνωμη .Η γνωμη μου ειναι οτι ενα fast- extra fast καλαμι το ψαρευεις πολυ πιο ομορφα με ενα πιο αργο μοτερ ακομα και hg αλλα που να εχει ανακτηση κοντα στο 1 μετρο δλδ 95-105 εκ.
Χρηστάρα προφανώς έχεις το Duro 100h το οποίο κατά σύμπτωση ψάρεψα πρόσφατα στο νησί (Τήνος), όπου το έχει καλός φίλος και γνωστός εδώ, και είχαμε την ίδια συζήτηση. Και εδώ ο μηχανισμός είναι με Saltiga 4500H. Αν βρεις κάποιον να σου δώσει ένα γρήγορο μηχανισμό όχι για μια βολή, αλλά για μερικά ψαρέματα ώστε να το συνηθίσεις θα δεις ότι αν μειώσεις το εύρος κίνησης, θα βρεις το αποτέλεσμα. Φυσικά και αφιερώνω χρόνο φίλε! Και θα σου πω το καλύτερο παράδειγμα. Όταν έφυγα από Muthos 96HH και πήγα σε Accura 100Η (που είναι αρκετά πιο γρήγορο), έκανα να πάρω ψάρι σωστό, πάνω από ένα μήνα. το μυαλό και το χέρι προσπαθούσαν να δώσουν την κίνηση που ήξεραν και αυτό έμοιαζε τόσο λάθος. και ήταν... Σιγά σιγά κατάλαβα ΄τοι έπρεπε να αλλάξω ρυθμό και εύρος, πιο απλά μίκρυνα την κίνηση και άλλαξα το "τέμπο'' και το αποτέλεσμα ήρθε. το καλάμι σου είναι ειδικά φτιαγμένο για να δίνει άμεσα κίνηση στον πλάνο σε οποιοδήποτε βάθος και με οποιοδήποτε καιρό. Με ένα γρήγορο μηχανισμό και πάλι με μικρότερη προσπάθεια ια είχες το επιθυμητό αποτέλεσμα, να είσαι βέβαιος. Αν έχεις βολευτεί αργό μηχανισμό, δεν υπάρχει λόγος να αλλάξεις, όμως δεν είναι και λόγος να πιστεύεις ότι ένας γρήγορος θα ήταν λάθος. ίσως μελλοντικά με δικαιώσεις, γιατί όπως καταλαβαίνεις δεν είναι θέμα καπρίτσιου, αλλά θέμα πρακτικότητας για τα περισσότερα καλάμια που συνδυάζονται καλύτερα με γρήγορους μηχανισμούς. πίστεψέ με για τους Ιάπωνες, δεν έχουν ένα καλάμι και για plugs και jigs. όταν πάνε έχουν δυο τρια μαζί, και άλλο θα βάλουν για πλάνους και άλλο για plugs, και να είσαι βέβαιος ότι στο σετ για πλάνους οι μηχανισμοί έιναι γρήγοροι εώς πολύ γρήγοροι. σημειώνω ότι με extra high gear προσπάθησα αλλά δεν κατάφερα να ψαρέψω, παρόλα αυτά δεν μπορώ να πω ότι είναι λάθος επειδή δεν με βόλεψε, εφόσον γνωρίζω συναδέλφους που ψαρεύουν αποτελεσματικά σε κάθε βάθος και ρέμα... Δεν ξέρω πως το κάνουν, αλλά το κάνουν!
PS το καλάμι σου είναι ένα δύσκολο καλάμι, αλλά αν το μάθεις καλά, δεν υπάρχει καιρός ή βάθος που θα μειώνει την απόδοση του πλάνου σου...
Hello Markos. If I understood correctly, line retrieve per crank depends on the gear ratio and reel size.
In your opinion what is the optimal line retrieve per crank (cm/inch) for fishing with jigs and sinking pencil?
There is not an answer since if we refer for 4000 or 8000 size, optimal line retrieve is different for each size...

Θα μπορούσες να πάρεις το νέο καλάμι που σχεδίασα το SGS2 20-80gr και να το συνδυάσεις με τον μηχανισμό SGS6 6000. Θα είσαι πολύ δυνατός και το σετ δεν θα το αλλάξεις ποτέ

Surf casting reels don't have to give action to lures so it doesn't really matter. But I am not a surf casting expert, so you better find one...

Hello Markos. Following you many years but first time commenting. Congrats, both for theory and also effectiveness. A lot of very useful information is always needed to improve our skills. Just wanted to ask, I recently bought the xzoga shoregame 96, to use with big minnows and medium weight jigs, matched with my Shimano Aero FA 4000 spinning reel and PE1.0 braid. In general is OK but cannot use PE2.0 braid with it, the capacity is nearly 200m only. Matching with my Ocuma Azores 5500 is impossible due to the heavyweight reel (I have the Hart Bloody EVO rod combined with the Azores reel and is excellent for me, only has slightly less retreiving ability per crank than I actually needed). Which one you think is a good shore jigging fast reel near 200€ to combine with the xzoga? For PE2.0 braid. Most of the times I am jigging in depths 50-80m with strong wind but no so strong currents. PG reels can use for need crank power by hand for exm. Fishing w/ live baits .. This is my opinion. But for jigging I think HG is always better than PG .. Nice video bro/
