  • The Productivity Commission’s recent study, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Visual Arts and Crafts, found that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are under-represented in Indigenous visual arts and craft sector leadership. This prevents Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from fully shaping and benefiting from this industry built on their culture, and deprives the industry of the skills, perspectives and cultural knowledges of Indigenous people.
The Australian Government is creating a First Nations Creative Workforce Development Strategy under the new National Cultural Policy that will consider this issue. So how do we ensure that governments and industry effectively invest in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leadership in the Indigenous visual arts and crafts industry?
This online panel discussion - facilitated by Romlie Mokak, Commissioner - considered this question and more, with panelists Franchesca Cubillo, Philip Watkins, Chad Creighton and Belinda Briggs.
