Haha! Black label 10 baby!
This gentleman is the best dealer I've seen thus far. Very informative and articulate in his explanations. Great teacher! Thank you.
I have no reason why, but these are actually must watch for me.
Same. I don't even like sports trading cards. But I really enjoy the stories.
Chris is a great story teller who makes a living doing what he loves. Its hard for me not to be a little jealous. His knowledge and passion for sports cards make his content "must see" for me. His videos really are "the good stuff"!
Dude, I love the financial break downs!! Thanks!
I am Australian, have no idea about baseball cards, but your videos are great and really entertaining, well done mate
Really appreciate that and welcome to the channel!
I owned 2 stores between 89-94 after the baseball strike , I had to close. Loved being in the business. Had purchased a 1914 cracker jack collection. Shoeless Joe , Cobb , had them all. People always ask me why I didn't keep the shoeless Joe , when you own a store and have the bills that come with it, and pay my home bills , you have to flip whatever comes in the store. That was the most fun. Never knowing what would walk in the store, interacting with the kids. We became friends. Played softball together , still run into my previous customers from time to time. They are certainly thanking me now , and I'm grateful for the time I was able to spend everyday with sportscards :) great stuff. Glad I found you.
Totally agree with you.
If you ever run out of sports card stories, I think most of us would just enjoy hearing about your day. Thank you for the nice content.
“Chris Sewell here: breakfast buyer, cooker, and eater in that order. In this video I will talk about how I went to Albertsons to purchase a dozen eggs, how long I spent preparing the eggs, and the type of silverware I used to bring the food to my mouth”
Haha!
Bwhahahahah. So true!
That is an amazing comment, and an even better response.
Who would've predicted the 2020-21 card boom? Your ROI is still pretty awesome. The best baseball card story I ever heard came from my dad. He called it one that got away. He was on leave from the Navy back in '79 and he had $1500 saved up. He had a chance to buy a '53 Topps Baseball set that he described as a labor of love from the collector who put it together. He claimed that every card would grade anywhere from a 6 to an 8 with some 9 and 10 possibilities. The keys were high end as well, especially the Mantle and Mays. The guy offered to sell it to my dad for the $1500 that he had. It was a lot of money back then, heck it's a lot of money for me today! He agonized over parting with his money, and after an hour he walked away from the deal. The next day he called the guy to try to buy it for the offered price, but it was sold already. He said that was one of his biggest regrets in the card world for him.
Chris could read the phone book and we would all be intrigued!
Best baseball card channel on UA-cam
wow love these stories
0:30 You’re also in the big leagues on UA-cam. Your channel is and has been my favorite sports card UA-cam channel for a long time and your content is so much better than ones like Sports Card Investor, PSA Collector and Jabs Family who have bigger fan bases.
Thank you my man. Appreciate it as always
yah it's insane how much more entertaining it is haha, so real
Sports card investor is so damn annoying.
On my dad's side of the family, I'm related to Damon and Justin Mashore
Great pods Chris , keep ‘em going, learnt many good tips from such an honest person!
Great deal, Chris. It was good that you got back your money, plus $1000 selling the Mantle. Stay safe.
Flipping through the cards and coming across a Mantle, my heart would have pounded out of my chest, great story... thanks Chris
Finding a 52 mantle unprotected in a shoebox full of other cards and it still grading a PSA 2.5 pretty amazing.
You are a fantastic story teller! A skill in itself!
By far, the most knowledgeable and view worthy of all the UA-cam channels! Please keep it up.
Man I love these stories. Keep them coming.
Always love starting my day with Adventures in Card Collecting!!
Such a fun deal, thanks for sharing! I’m looking forward to hearing about the huge collection at the one guy’s house that didn’t go through!
Truly the best sportcard content on UA-cam. Live it. Thanks Chris.
Good story - always enjoy hearing how you turned baseball card dealing into your livelihood. 25,000 (and counting) card enthusiasts would concur that you are in the Major Leagues.
Wow, that was a great turn around for a "raw" 52' mantle, no fuss no muss with PSA etc.. Great video, love this 'buy/selling story series'.
Another great story! Love living the collector, investor life vicariously through you!👍😁
Absolutely love your content just very real and I feel that's what true collectors love thanks for all your hard work!!!!!
These stories are really entertaining. Look forward to then when they pop up.
keep the stories coming, they need to make a movie, big fan Bro
Definitely a Major Leaguer. Any deal with a 52 Mantle in it is awesome.
Big win for your pro debut. Love the details in your story telling
Love your stories!! Don't know how many times I had same, should've bought this and that card at shows. Had chance to buy 6 '75 brett rcs at show for $5 each, all off center. But did buy '65 killebrew for $5, might be mint 9.
When you added " the equivalent to working and missing out on a paycheck " really helps the viewer get a great understanding of the sale information. Great videos !! Always !!
One of the best story tellers on UA-cam
Nice video Chris. I’ve only seen two Mantles in person. Almost too scared to touch the last one and it was only a PSA 2 or so as well.
Another great vid! Love how honest and almost vulnerable these are. "Yeah I could have held for $50K on the Mantle, but this is the life of a dealer" So true! I hate how many people only post W's or how much they X'd their money over the years, it always comes across as arrogant. Keep up the great work Chris!
Love the story and all of your storytelling videos in general. What I like about it is how authentic you are; you’re obviously a collector and fan first and you care about the hobby, and you’re able to make a good business out of it because of that. Keep up the good work!
Appreciate that, it means a lot
Love hearing your stories about cards and mostly your heart 😊😊😊
Great way to start the day. Thanks Chris.
I haven't collected cards for many many years, but these stories are a must watch for me. Thanks for the content.
I’m in the little leagues right of card dealing right now, but learning and having fun. This channel is very helpful in that learning process.
I love how you include all fees not just the main #'s. I collect diecast and some cards and even less comics, but some. In the hot wheels world every one tells you what they paid or sold for but rarely include the shipping ect.that drives me crazy! You have to include everything even the man hours. So thanks for showing the way it really goes. My favorite picture is of course with the little guy, my daughter just turned 17, and that's REALLY CRAZY! anyway thanks for the knowledge and entertainment.
Hotwheels🥴
@@dieseldabz7104 yup hot wheels, if you love cars and collecting but aren't rich, there perfect! Look it up on Ebay, I guarantee you will be shocked.
Appreciate that. Totally agree, its so common to just hear "bought for x" and "sold for y" but thats often not the whole story.
Story time is becoming my favorite type of content Chris! Really appreciate when you share your experiences as it helps give context to where we’re currently at! Thanks 😊
I held a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle when i was maybe 10 years old. It was ungraded and in one of those ridiculous 3 inch thick screw down holders. I asked a dealer at a big card show if i could hold it and he was like suuuuuuuure and handed it over. I was in shock he let me hold it. He was either really nice or was hoping i might be a trust fund baby. Either way i appreciated it.
Hahahaha a trust fund baby . Nice 👍
Can’t wait to see your PC from being back in the states! Great content!
I always appreciate your content without any needless fluff. I've been following your channel for a few months now, Really great work!
Another cool story thanks for doing these
I basically love all of your videos, but these story time videos are the best. Thanks for sharing!
Billy's a Badass,clutch ballplayer, awesome keep!Great story!
15 minutes feel like 5 when you're telling a story. Thanks for sharing.
Great story
Thanks for another epic adventure!
These stories never get old and this was a great one Chris! The fact you flipped the 52' Mantle right away was key. Imagine passing on it and while authentic, it comes back from PSA as altered or minimum size requirement. To be able to recoup that much of the investment right away seems like it was a great decision. Thanks for sharing and look forward to more of these in the future!
You have an awesome job. Just opened mine back up over the past few months, it's fun to start collecting again
Great story -there really is a high when you own a major grail-it’s so cool to have something you know every collector wants
Love the business stories. Thanks for sharing!
Chris nice story.keep up the good work👍😎
Your stories are the best Chris! As a collector, I dream about the cards that you have probably handled too many times to count! Love the stories!
Probably the coolest video I’ve ever seen. Appreciate the candidness.
Ive got to sau ty so much for making these videos AND showing is the financials behind it. It makes it much easier to realize if I'm doin g it the right way or to walk away from a deal
Thank you! Very cool to hear that
Love your stories! Thanks for sharing
Thanks for another great story, Chris! I'm surprised advertising cost you $2,119! I'm not a card dealer, but that sure seems like a lot of money for ads.
Very informative.Excellent speaker.Thank You
Great story! Thanks for sharing, Chris.
Wow brother this is one of the best stories I have heard you say. I absolutely LOVED it! Thanks for sharing
Excellent story.
Another great story. Thank you for sharing it.
Great story. Thank You.
Great story! Thanks for sharing!
I rarely like or comment on videos but just love this series, keep em coming
What a fun story to share.. thanks Chris..
Thank you for sharing your story.
Always a geat video. I enjoy the stories more than the roller videos. Your a great story teller. Perfect delivery.
Mantle is still on my bucket list. Great story, Chris.
U (and Jeremy) seem excellent at no regrets and knowing when to move on. I'm guessing that's a huge problem for many collectors
Another captivating story! Keep them coming
Chris, you are actually very good storyteller!
Great story. Thnx for sharing.
It has to be hard to have the holy grail in your hands and sell it right away. But you got a great price that nearly covered your nut. Nicely done
Great stories keep em coming !
Always great stories !
That was awesome. You and your partner, nerves of steel!
Man your stories are LEGENDARY, Also I LOVE that pic of the mantle on your son!!!!. Renting a hotel man that is a great way to show your serious and high end collectors. LMK when your in the states I really want to move ALL my stuff which includes several vintage 800 count boxes(1969-1972) plus lots of modern stuff, mahomes rookies among LOTS of other stuff. I know you will treat me right, I want to get this stuff to someone who can properly store them, I dont have time selling them on ebay, I dont know about comc etc, I REALLY think this is worth your time, GREAT breaker value and this is good one stop haul.
Really appreciate that. Feel free to email me anytime at sewallsportscards@gmail.com
Great recap! Thanks Chris.
Lol I love this stuff. I remember when I was little...I was obsessed with the Jose Conseco. It was in the display of one of those machines that spits out a couple cards for some quarters.
Welcome back! So enjoy your stories about Adventures in Sports Cards Deals! Nina
When I was a little kid there was a phone # you could call to get the time and temperature. There was also a # to call for Story time where they would tell kids stories. As an adult your channel reminds me of that :)
I’ve never owned a sports card. I collect other TCG stuff but I truly enjoy your channel and the stories. Keep up the great work
Glad to have you back uploading bro!! Hope you had a fun visit to the states.
Really do love your stories 😁
That Robinson with the red background looked amazing. I would of been so scared to make that deal because of the Mantle, but when your dealing you kinda get that feeling if it's good or not. Those pennants were actually pretty nice.
That's a cool story. Sounds like a very good investment - and a good time to boot, which adds a lot of value. 👍👍
As others have said, your channel is a PSA 10. I reached out to you not long ago and need more advice. I'm one of those 62 year olds who downsized from the big house as kids are out. Of course, I found my old collection up in the attic, 68 69 70 71 among others. Mantle, Ryan, Seaver, Orr, Havlicheck, Reggie...you know the guys...All in really good shape (dont we all say that?). So I went on you tube and could not believe what these things were worth, even in not great condition. So I quickly top loaded them all, and continued to watch...your channel is so superior, your down to Earth style and relevant information is so easy to understand. So much appreciated. I am in NY, you are in CA but I only trust your advice. Grade/No Grade, Auction/No auction, Ebay..whats Ebay??? :) What advice do you give to old guys like me who want to sell the whole deal and buy a jersey shore home for me and the kids? I actually bought a Pedro and Ovechkin from a local guy to support the hobby. (Hate both of them but they are/were so damn good). Do you have a Patreon thing to support your channel? YOU SHOULD!. Hope to hear from you again before my wife kills me for having cards all over our downsized home now! (she wont help me sort or topload...what to do Chris!!! HELP! thanks Tony
Hello Tony, thank you for the kind words. I dont have a patreon page, but I do have a paypal donations page, the link is in the video description.
If you want to send me some pictures to my email, I can maybe advise better that way. sewallsportscards@gmail.com
Thank you for a very entertaining & educational video. I still have all my cards (thankfully) from my collecting days from the 60's. I'll dig them out & see what I have. Love your stories of investing, full transparency & the photos add authenticity. I subscribed & will try to catch up with your other videos.
Appreciate that and welcome to the channel!
I love your channel. Keep up the good work. It's very interesting and informative. I am getting back into the hobby and your videos are helping me recognize valuable cards. Thank you. Great advice about selling and not looking back too. You can't look back. Also, the new money cards bring in can always be reinvested and can bring in much more than the card would have if you held it.
Great video. You never forget your first ♥️
Wow! Talk about bucket list! Just holding one would be incredible - let alone owning. Great story and I loved the $$$ breakdown at the end. ✌
I love these videos from you. You're story telling is top notch. Thanks for the stories.
Loved the story and the very detailed financial breakdown. Thank you for the great content!
Always a treat. Thanks for sharing.
Love these stories keep bringin them Chris inspiring!
Love your stories Chris!
If only you kept that Robinson card! Great deal though and it brought back memories as I used to go to the Burbank card shop regularly when I lived in Burbank back in the 90's.
