Η Παλαιά Φώκαια είναι παραθαλάσσιος οικισμός της Ανατολικής Αττικής που δημιουργήθηκε από Μικρασιάτες πρόσφυγες από την Παλαιά Φώκαια της Μικράς Ασίας. Βρίσκεται στις ακτές του Σαρωνικού, ανάμεσα στο Σούνιο και στην Ανάβυσσο. Διοικητικά ανήκει στον δήμο Σαρωνικού.
Ιστορικά στοιχεία
Ο οικισμός της Παλαιάς Φώκαιας δημιουργήθηκε την δεκαετία του 1920 μετά την εγκατάσταση Μικρασιατών προσφύγων από την Παλαιά Φώκαια της Μικράς Ασίας.Ο οικισμός ονομάστηκε Παλαιά Φώκαια και όχι «Νέα» όπως συνηθίζεται στους προσφυγικούς οικισμούς για τον ακόλουθο λόγο. Το 1250 μ.Χ. κάτοικοι της Φώκαιας ίδρυσαν ένα νέο χωριό 9 χλμ. βορειότερα της Φώκαιας, το οποίο ονομάστηκε Νέα Φώκαια. Τα επόμενα χρόνια ο οικισμός που βρισκόταν στην αρχαία τοποθεσία ονομάστηκε Παλαιά Φώκαια για να διακρίνεται από τον νεότερο. Οι πρόσφυγες που εγκαταστάθηκαν στην περιοχή της Αναβύσσου και προέρχονταν από την Παλαιά Φώκαιας, δεν έδωσαν στον οικισμό που ίδρυσαν το όνομα «Νέα Φώκαια» γιατί με αυτό το όνομα υπήρχε άλλο χωριό στη Μικρά Ασία. Έτσι ο νέος οικισμός διατήρησε το όνομα «Παλαιά Φώκαια», που ήταν το όνομα της ιδιαίτερης πατρίδας τους.
Ο οικισμός εντάχθηκε αρχικά στην Κοινότητα Καλυβίων Θορικού ενώ από το 1947 αποτέλεσε ξεχωριστή κοινότητα. Στα όρια της κοινότητας αναγνωρίστηκε το 1971 και ο οικισμός Θυμάρι. Η Κοινότητα Παλαιάς Φώκαιας καταλάμβανε έκταση 22,9 τ.χλμ. και είχε πληθυσμό 2.051 κατοίκους, σύμφωνα με την απογραφή του 2001. Καταργήθηκε με την εφαρμογή του Προγράμματος «Καλλικράτης», το 2011, και εντάχθηκε στον νέο Δήμο Σαρωνικού.
Ο Δήμος Σαρωνικού είναι δήμος της Περιφέρειας Αττικής ο οποίος συστάθηκε με το Πρόγραμμα Καλλικράτης. Ο δήμος σχηματίστηκε με τη συνένωση των δήμων Καλυβίων Θορικού και Αναβύσσου και των κοινοτήτων Κουβαρά, Παλαιάς Φώκαιας και Σαρωνίδας. Η έκταση του νέου Δήμου είναι 133,43 τ.χλμ. και ο πληθυσμός του 30.047 κάτοικοι, σύμφωνα με την Απογραφή του 2021. Ως έδρα του δήμου ορίστηκαν τα Καλύβια Θορικού.
Η Λίμνη της Βουλιαγμένης είναι φυσική υφάλμυρη λίμνη με ιαματικές ιδιότητες που βρίσκεται στη Βουλιαγμένη της Αττικής. Εντάσσεται στις περιοχές Natura 2000 και έχει χαρακτηριστεί τοπίο ιδιαίτερου φυσικού κάλους.
Περιγραφή
Η λίμνη βρίσκεται στο νότιο άκρο του Υμηττού, κοντά στη θάλασσα. Βρίσκεται μέσα σε μια ελλειψοειδή κοιλότητα με μήκος 260 μέτρα και πλάτος 145 μέτρα. Η λίμνη βρίσκεται μισό μέτρο ψηλότερα από την επιφάνεια της θάλασσας. Τα νερά της προέρχονται από βάθος 50 με 100 μέτρα και έχουν θερμοκρασία από 22°C μέχρι 29°C, υποδεικνύοντας ότι σε κάποιο βάθος επικοινωνεί με το ηφαιστειακό τόξο του Αιγαίου. Επίσης, η λίμνη τροφοδοτείται από μια πηγή γλυκού νερού σε βάθος 17 μέτρων. Στη λίμνη καταλήγει ένα υπόγειο σπήλαιο που επικοινωνεί με τη θάλασσα με διάφορες στοές.
Η λίμνη δημιουργήθηκε όταν τμήμα της οροφής ενός μεγάλου υπόγειου σπηλαίου κατέρρευσε πριν περίπου 2.000 χρόνια λόγω της διάβρωσης και των τεκτονικών κινήσεων, και γι' αυτό δεν υπάρχουν αναφορές από την αρχαιότητα, ούτε καν από τον Παυσανία. Το σπήλαιο βρίσκεται μέσα στα ασβεστολιθικά πετρώματα της περιοχής. Το εξερευνημένο μήκος του σπηλαίου είναι 3.123 μέτρα. Στο σπήλαιο υπάρχουν 14 σήραγγες, ενώ έχει βρεθεί και ένας μεγάλος υποθαλάσσιος σταλαγμίτης. Ο πυθμένας της λίμνης αποτελείται από λασπώδες υπόστρωμα πλούσιο σε θειούχες ενώσεις. Τα νερά της λίμνης έχουν αυξημένη περιεκτικότητα σε μέταλλα και ιχνοστοιχεία, όπως κάλιο, νάτριο, λίθιο, αμμώνιο, ασβέστιο, σίδηρος, χλώριο και ιώδιο. Τα νερά της λίμνης ενδείκνυνται για ρευματικές παθήσεις, αθλητικές κακώσεις, παθήσεις νευρικού συστήματος, δερματοπάθειες και γυναικολογικές παθήσεις. Η κολύμβηση στη λίμνη γίνεται έναντι αντιτίμου και στη λίμνη υπάρχει εστιατόριο-μπαρ.
