Thanks for the great show, U.S has trained almost all the coup d'etat leaders in West Africa. Am sure you can't mention on coup d'etat leader trained by China. Why didn't you mention it.compare the two. Officers go to China to learn skills not ideology. China doesn't impose it's form of government on others. Thanks again.
Actually, I can. Zimbabwean leader Emerson Mnangagwa came to power when he overthrew Robert Mugabe in a coup in 2017. Mnangagwa is a graduate of the Nanjing Military College in China. - Eric
Joseph Kabila Jr who took over from his Dad in Congo was trained in China at the National Defense University to be precise. It was not a classic coup but a military orchestrated transition. Isias Aferworki was trained in China as an officer. He orchestrated a violent seizure of power. The officer group that launched an unsuccessful bid to seize power in Ethiopia in 2020 were also Chinese trained. I am sure there are others. But that is not to say that China necessarily backs its trainees to seize power. That's an entirely different argument that is notoriously difficult to prove

Are you claiming that the Chinese intelligence services ordered, encouraged and funded him to overthrow the government of Mugabe like the CIA and the US military did to Mubarak, Patrice Lumumba or Qaddafi? How many Chinese military bases do you see in Africa. How many Chinese military coups have you seen in Africa? The fact that the president of Zimbabwe graduated from China is a mere coincidence. The fact is the US has been overthrowing leaders of other countries in West Asia, Latin America, Europe, Carribean and Africa for over 70 years. This is not China's way. Interference in other countries internal affairs is not China's official or unofficial policy. Furthermore Mugabe refused to leave power. The people of Zimbabwe wanted him gone. This was an internal Zimbabwe ruling elite coup, not foreign led.
China's involvement with African militaries is not new but has always been helpful. Africa needs strong defense of its borders and resources, however, I disagree that the CCP is somehow separate from China as a Nation, it may be distinct in its relationship to citizens, just like the Courts, etc., but it doesn't present a decision to be made about allegiances.

It’s a great conversation but don’t forget if china didn’t come to help today Africa still civil war and chaos and under development, should be appreciated. All these propaganda spread by west because they lost their control .today Africa is the fastest growing economy internationally and thanks to China.
Do Africans understand what Americans & French military bases do in Africa? They had been around for decades and it had created more conflicts and instability in the region.
The ideas might be right but the vocabulary isn't. China does not consider in terms of "projection of power" or "expeditonary force" which are vocabulary of western imperialists. Military strength is needed to protect Chinese people and Chinese investment as well as African partners, people and infrastructure on the continent. China is an expert in policing against terrorists and gangs.

Africa can work with China and Russia on sevral levels according to what Africa needs to reach growth needed. Need to learn from each other. China and Russia has alot to offer as Africa have too. However, openminded, not forgetting Africas sovereignty.
Look at Sri Lanka ( or Ethiopia). If not for China help military wise Sri Lanka would still be in civil war or became part of Tamil Nadu. Did China military took over Sri Lanka? No . In fact Sri Lanka even pivot to US and India and China military just walk away.
China Militarization in Africa is nothing about ties. There is truly no cohesion to be had. But the fohesion exists in maintaining the the Africa AND China Economic relationship. There is No agenda. Just Mutual Benefit on Agreeable terms.
They are trying to get some of that $1.4 Billion the US congress passed to fund people around the world to write negative stories about China. A few years ago Journalists in Zimbabwe were saying that the US embassy there was offering $1000 to $1500 to journalists there to write negative stories about China, remember?
