For anyone else who would like to know, if ever you are stuck - West Africans call Taro - 'Cocoyam' and Taro leaves are called 'Contombre' in Ghana but not sure what they call it elsewhere in West Africa. Caribbean people call Taro - 'Dasheen' but some people in the Caribbean, like Jamaicans, call it 'Coco'. You can find these foods in London, in places where West African people and Caribbean people do their ethnic food shopping. You can also find fresh coconut, cassava root, different types of yam, breadfruit, pumpkin, plantains, different types of bananas (including green ones) and sweet potatoes. I don't know how the prices compare to anywhere else in the UK but it seems affordable. Also, fun fact - Caribbean people eat Curry so they also have their own curry powder and ready made Rot for sale.
You should get everything you need in ethnic London markets: Brixton, Peckham or Dalston markets, I believe. Maybe even in Lewisham market. Not sure. 🤗
Hi, thank you we usually go to Spitalfields market to buy what we need. Aldershot is closer to most communities where Fijians in the South east live so they prefer the closest option.
