- The Budokai Tenkaichi series has been beloved by fans of the Dragonball franchise for many years, but now an entirely new generation is going to get to experience it in its most glorious form. A lot of people that watch my videos are in the FGC, so I thought I'd make a video more catered to them!

Tenkaichi 3 came out a few days before my 17th birthday, nearly half my lifetime ago. I'm an old man now, but dammit I can't wait to play this.

I remember playing the FIRST tenkaichi game back in 2005.
Played it constantly and had an absolute blast. Im glad the series has finally returned. It’s definitely refreshing after playing so much of tekken,SF, and MK.
Glad you cover this game. Most fgc guys dismiss it because it’s an arena fighter. But it’s the kind of game that casuals like me will have fun with forever, because it’s not made for competition first and foremost. I can’t wait to play a real dbz game after so long. I’m waiting for dbfz 2 as well btw.

@@ektran4205I heard they are gonna do a cost thing for teams. So you get points to spend on your team. People like MUI Goku are gonna be more broken, but cost more points than someone like Yamcha

Tenkaichi 3 was the game that made me stay at my mates yard for longer than I was allowed to when i was around 8-10, They kept pretty much everything the same when it comes to combat which is amazing to see and the stages man..... no words. I'd love to see split-screen local play be a thing again but yean the hype is too real.
Man I'm hoping that they bring back the songs from tenkaichi 2 and 3. Songs like edge of time or lost courage are absolute bangers, to name a few

i was broke without a job, in the 10th grade, and sold this game for super smash bros brawl back in 2008 and never touched the game since. One of my Biggest regrets.

I hope this game is good, man. When dbfz was announced, I was so sad cuz I thought I was gonna get another game like sparking zero, but got more of a "traditional" 3v3 tag fighter instead. (Back then, I didn't know how cool this was) I just need this back. It was such a special part of my childhood.
The Tenkaichi series is my favorite series of all time. I have the PS2 and Wii versions and even went out of my way to grab a japanese PS2 to play all the Sparking versions. Been waiting for Spraking Zero for almost 20 years.
dbz tenkaichi is such a good series man the nostalgia its brings me, definitely hype for spaking zero

20 characters are dlc, no dragon ball og or gt. Season pass confirmed, battle pass no doubt added on later.

As for the combo system: it's as you mentioned, it's mostly mashing square then pressing triangle. Pressing triangle at different points of the square combo will lead to different heavy attacks which can be dodged. Each heavy attack can be made once during a combo so if you're even moderately good, you could do a somewhat basic combo that did half a bar of damage (characters have 3 bars on average). And that's not counting the followups, the counters, the blocking... So not only BT3 was a masterpiece, it was also a deep fighting game with a lot of intricacies and exploits used by the tournament scene.

I remember playing Tenkaichi 1, 2 and 3 on PS2 and loving that game. I can't get hyped anymore for any game until like a month or two before it's release do I'm not hyped YET but I do hope this game has a decent netcode and that the player base welcomes it for years to come, that's the only thing that can go wrong imo.

I used to play hercule is budokai 1 and troll my brother, dude had one of the highest damage supers in the game with his bomb. Can’t wait to recreate some memories lol
11:13 Note these mechanics came before breakers iirc. It was however used by stocks in Tenkaichi and called something odd like "Favorite move" (Favorite of the character I guess? Been a while), and I believe Raging Blast may have had it to a degree, however it was a universal mechanic in Xenoverse 1/2.
14:58 Also Tenkaichi 3 had a mode kinda like a Ratio mode where say you made a team with 15 points and characters were arranged by cost tier. Ex Hercule costing 1 while say Vegito costing 5 to add
The big appeal of the Budokai Tenkaichi games was never the gameplay, it was the tons and tons of characters you could play with. Like, it had everyone, the cannon fodder, the characters from the filler arcs and from the non-canon movies, and more importantly it had characters from all Dragon Ball franchises, including classic DB.
It was also the gameplay tbh

No the gameplay was definitely the appeal. And it really only complimented the huge roster. Not only is the gameplay accurate to dbz compared to any other adaptation by far, it’s actually just FUN. It’s kind of like smash bros, not overly deep but quite complex and just made for casual fun but CAN be taken to a competitive scene
Just for the memes, we need the same Budokai composer back who just bloody ripped off, for example, Stratovarius, Pink Floyd, Disturbed, Venom and ost from other video games Xd

I would suggest you temper your expectations. This is exactly what happened with t8. I love the game but people were acting like it was going to be the savior of fighting games

its literally a dream come true since Tenkaichi 3 came out I always wanted a sequel since I was a kid. But how badly games come out now has me really worried the game looks way too good to be true.
After seeing you play yakuza I've decided to get into the series myself, I'm having alot of fun in yakuza 0 doing real estate, very good game
Never played a DBZ game but if the pvp is good and competitive i might pick this up pending reviews.
I have 2 main concerns and y’all can boo all you want these are legitimate concerns no mention of rollback netcode has me concerned they said they wanted to focus on but we have no idea what they are doing and Bandai namco games usually have really terrible online. Second concern is DLC practices in the pre orders I saw something of a battle pass and emotes for online not to mention 20 DLC characters is confirmed so I’m worried these characters are just going to be taken out of the game when they should’ve been in such as GT characters or Movie characters like Z Broly. I’m hyped but I’m also concerned as well Bandai has the easiest W to get but they can screw this up so easily.

I don't, depends if there will be cross paly or not(when it comes to playing with folk on streams that is), but this is über exciting as a whole. AS for the online, it should be fine, I recall it being a problem to implement good net code when it wasn't intended from the beginning unlike with here, where it was a focus, so we should be golden!

Biggest issue I worry about is balancing cause arena fighters aint really about that life unless its Gundam Versus games because they are arcade-tested, but no one likes Gundam but old people like me. I'll give it a try tho
It's definitely gonna be unbalanced. They've already said they're purposely making it lore accurate.
It looks great so far but let’s hope that they don’t drop the ball. And yes Burst limit was underrated but the story mode should’ve been longer imo.

Tenkaichi 3 had partial destruction, the hyperbolic time chamber and the world tournament and cell games arena all had partial
Tbh im hyped for this game, but I really hope they do something about these graphics. Terrain is in generic UE5 "greasy" shader style, while explosions are in DBFZ style. Hopefully they polish it out like they did with Tekken and its early builds.

Yeah, I've seen those in a few places. There's a couple of Japanese uploads with more recent builds.

I'm a long time dragonball fan but I gotta be honest, I don't get the hype. I haven't played every single dragonball game but I've played a lot. Most of them are basically the same thing. I guess I'm just misinformed. Glad to see people super hyped for a new game.

Tenkaichi style arena is the definite way to play DBZ, that’s why everyone is hyped. Xenoverse was never it.

That tweet wasn’t completely wrong lol. If anything you kinda say that a lot of these newer anime cash grab arena fighters based their core gameplay around the Sparking/Tenkaichi/Raging Blast play style.
I wonder if Sparking sold more than Budokai. If so I guess that’s why even Dimps copied the Spikes open arena style with Xenoverse despite having a solid foundation with the Budokai play style.

As for that yes of course its not a NEED but I'd still love to see it. I mean Mortal Kombat Armageddon had the whole MK verse and had it and that feature is the most requested to return.

The devs even said that this game won't be competitive
They didn't say it was gonna be a non-competitive game, lil bro. They said it'll be unbalanced so Krillin will have a much harder time against Vegeta than say Goku will. So a portion of the cast will be able to fight at that level which has always been the case with all Tenkaichi games (Tenkaichi 3 was competitive, my guy. You should check it out).
