I watched this on twitch and went hell yeah pog. A day later watched it again on UA-cam. Gourds still getting pogged. God bless me having the memory of a goldfish.
I like to comment on NL’s videos about the parts I enjoyed because maybe one day he’ll reply and say “Thanks Dog” and I’ll say “no problem dog” and it’ll be really really cool EDIT: today’s moment is pee-empowered NL starting at 25:12, pure gold. The rant at the end 😂
yea, that was crazy. one moment he notifies us that he wants to pee, so I think within the next few hours he will pause the stream. nah, a few seconds later he is complaining about his kidneys and I though, given that speed the pee will start coming out of his mouth in 3,2,...
He's only a year or two older than me (one of the two, I forget which), which makes him either 31 or 32. Unless he's got a family history of prostate cancer he's still got another 18 years before that becomes at all a likely issue. He was probably just not noticing that he had to go because he was hyper-focused on the game--ADD (or ADHD) style, then when it looked like he was going to win his brain interrupted him with "Hey by the way, you super gotta pee". I do that all the time. I'll finally beat a boss in Dark Souls or something after trying for an hour and then suddenly realize that my neck hurts, I'm starving, and I've apparently had to pee for at least half an hour.
sorry Julian, next time I will give periodic bladder updates about how I'm feeling minute-to-minute rather than just saying I need to pee when I have to go and making you nervous
when the opponent took your a2 pawn with his bishop ( 26:00 -ish), his bishop could have been trapped with b3. That a pawn was poisoned, a useful tactic to know. But bladder mate is also a good way to end the game!
32:50 The reason why 1...h6 works is because 2. Bh4 g5. And now, white is no longer pinning the knight to the queen. This comes up commonly in a Semi-Slav line I know as well. Leads to crazy positions, but is generally easier to play for white unless black knows his book
After Bxa2 at 26:02 you can push b3 and trap the bishop behind the pawns. Rc8, Kb2. You have to defend c2 or the knight to actually capture the bishop, but it blocks his bishop out of the game and his rook is tied to threatening c2. It's a fun pattern to look out for on Bxa2/Bxh2.
at 38:00 yes the bishop is trapped but when he says move the bishop he means take the pawn with the bishop... the bishop and the knight are lost so you should grab the pawn before it is. Believe this is a tactic called a 'Desperado'.
The checkmate while needing to go to the bathroom was reminiscent of Joey's successful audition for Jeff Goldblum in Friends :) "You sow the seeds and ... "
At 7:44, if instead of using the knight to go for that bishop in g7 with check, your opponent had moved his dark square bishop to g5, he would have trapped your queen
At 20:45 is there a reason not to play Queen to G3? It pressures the G pawn while allowing yourself to respond to pawn takes E5 by taking with your F pawn without endangering the queen.
7:30 it is better to give up a rook if you are winning a piece in exchange rather than letting him take the bishop for free (i.e. its better to lose the exchange than to lose a whole minor piece with no compensation) also your rook was un active and bishop was on a long diagonal
Maybe it’s a stylistic difference but I feel like he could be more aggressive in a lot of these games. He gets an advantage then kinda stalls out and lets his opponents reinforce and develop rather than pressing the advantage. Then again we’re rated basically the same
How do we get ourselves out of this bucket of syrup might be the most Canadian thing I've heard you say yet. Also this episode was making me laugh the hardest I ever have at one of your videos. I almost spit out my hot chocolate.
NL, playing consistently suboptimally does not require making terrible mistakes. You just have to make a bunch of little ones. There's no reason to be surprised about 18.7 percent accuracy without any blunders.

Bruh. I also just learned how to mate with rook and king the other day. It’s not intuitive at all LOL That was really solid OH also that instant knight check to fork the king and rook. I wouldn’t have seen it that fast. Would probably traded rooks like a dumbo.
That Caro-Kann position you had in the first game is super duper weird. It’s so unnatural to play the main line. So the “mainline” is actually to take his pawn, get taken by the knight, place your knight out for a trade, and then take with the... I think queens pawn? I forget which of the two, but that’s all book. Never would have figured that out on my own ._. Edit: looking at it now, I think it’s actually your g pawn you take with opening your rook. Maybe. LOL I dunno I need to go back and watch Levy’s course. I prefer when the opponent takes or does the advance variation 100%. It just feels better
