Ronald Reagan as governor of CA destroyed the mental health system, initiating the homelessness crisis among people with emotional and mental illnesses. (I was in college in CA at the time.) He opened logging in old growth and redwood forests: "When you've seen one redwood, you've seen them all." I'll never forget hearing him say that. He tore down low income housing (I had friends who lost housing in Signal Hill, Long Beach, which is now all high rise offices.) As president, he tore down more low income housing in the US than any president before him. His "stronger America" was an America of trickle down economics. We all know how well that works for us middle and lower income folks. I respect Kinzinger for his stance on T---p, but don't tell me about Reagan.
I was in high school in CA when Ronnie took over. The thing I remember is how Jerry Brown had an apartment across the street from the capitol and walked to work to not waist taxpayer's money (was also dating Linda Ronstadt). Ronnie & Nancy lived in the historic gov's mansion but didn't like it, so they had a whole new mansion built out of town and flew back and forth to work in a helicopter, all paid for by tax payers. As soon as Jerry got back in office, he sold Ronnie's mansion. As president, Ronnie had taxpayers pay for $32,000 worth of Jelly Belly jelly beans to be placed around the White House for his guests on inauguration day and continued this tradition throughout his presidency.

Rep. Kinzinger - With all due respect, it is very difficult for me to have Trump rightly criticized, yet celebrate Ronald Reagan, the reason you got involved, the president second only to Trump as the worst president for America. We're still dealing with the terrible things he set in motion.

I remember in high school my history teacher talked about how Reagan was the best president ever. I believed him. He was a history teacher surely he knows what he's talking about. Then I actually read about him and what he did and was immediately confused because he was the exact opposite of everything he said.

Thank you, Adam Kinzinger. I'm a Democrat, raised by Eisenhower era Republicans, and I love honest debate on policies. It's fun and energizing to have spirited disagreements that end with a handshake and a commitment to vote for policies that best serve the American people. I am so devastated that today's GOP is in the thrall of the lunatic fringe.

Agreed, on all counts. Regan was the beginning of this path to authoritarianism. But, I don't think even he ever expected it to get so overgrown by Russian Thistle. And, I doubt that Kinzinger was really old enough to realize, or truly understand the repercussions at the time. I get the feeling he likely much preferred the "idea" of Regan, over the results of Regan. Apparently, he still hasn't made that connection yet, but he seems willing to be open to change and different ways of thinking... maybe?

I think he picked Vance because Putin told him to do it. This would clarify on the meeting Trump had with Orban at Mar a Lago right after Orban had a meeting with Putin. He does all of it so openly and his sheep cannot connect these simple dots.

technically former presidents can be called former presidents or just 'president so-and-so'. it's just a formality. like calling someone with a doctorate, doctor, even if they no longer practice medicine. they don’t actually mean a former president is still the sitting president.
I disagree. we need to remember that we allowed that to happen and we need to hold ourselves, each other, and our institutions accountable for allowing it to happen. gerrymandering contributed to it. super PACs contributed to it. racism and anti immigrant hatred contributed to it, among other factors.
we all need to remember that he was president, we need to feel shame, and we need to take action to address the harm his presidency caused and to prevent anything like this from happening again.

It's funny, my family has painted signs and protested against Kinzinger's policies ... then he turned out to be one of the few Republicans that was an American first and a Republican 2nd. I still don't agree with every policy he supported, but I'm glad of his true colors.
