After hearing “Black Honey”, I loved the grit and power the lead vocalist had and those hard hitting choruses! This one was very different - softer, entrancing and it definitely did give off Radiohead vibes! But you guys are right - the grit in his voice made it unmistakably “Thrice”. It’s a great song, overall! Good for softly head banging 😁
Vheissu is probably my favorite thrice era - but what they did with the Alchemy Index, the range they showed, and how eclectic they've become, is amazing to hear. I've loved how they've evolved, and how I've grown to enjoy each new project they put out.
i have trouble picking favorite albums from them. every one of them has been fantastic. for example, i would have never guessed i would love the water album. But i listened to it for hours on the back of a cruise ship once while i was staring at the ocean. it was honestly kind of life-changing for me believe it or not.
@@randal3122 I haven’t listened to it on a cruise ship but I did at a pier. Listening to that album while staring off into the open ocean with the sound of waves around you is something fulfilling and calming.
I love this band and I am a lil biased to them but With this song it was awesome to me. I like how they did start off slow and you could feel the build up on how the song continued. Dustin's vocals are so amazing and beautiful, you can feel them in your soul and its amazing
Love Thrice. Not my favorite band but I hold a special place in my heart for them as I feel that I have grown and matured right along with their music.
This one's a real grower, I've listened to it a lot the last couple of days and appreciate it more each time. On first listen the intro had me really concerned, but the way the song builds out of that to the way it crescendos at the end works. Not top tier Thrice, but it's a good song. The Alchemy Index would be a hell of a ride, I think Nath would love Fire, but it's all gold.
Love this so much love this sound a heap. I do find it takes time to adjust to new tunes from them tho. Got recommended Thrice in 2020 from friends off a twitch channel it was Brandon fron Atreyus channel. Started with Hurricane and along with to be everywhere is to be nowhere then vhisseu the rest is history def top 5 band all time.
Thrice has been my favorite band since I was 15 when identity crisis came out. And I would say that everything after Vheissu take a few listens to catch the vibe and nuances. I remember when I first heard Vheissu I was disappointed and now it is one of my favorite albums of all time. I always urge people when first listening to Thrice to give an album or select songs a few listens, and most of the time the first impression never lasts.
"also, think Radiohead"... " no thank you " hahaha. Ugh, Thrice though... Palms was slightly underwhelming.... but, this... this hit so good. Dustin's voice is forever hypnotizing.
ALSO! The time signatures is one of the main reasons I really appreciate Thrice. Maybe this comment will be too long, and no-one will see it. But I found this "On the Google". Along with much of their newer stuff (like you said with "The Window" and I have always loves "The Earth Will Shake") Thrice is an American experimental post-hardcore band. They are well-known for using unusual song structures and time signatures. Their recent love affair with Russian Circles has brought in more post-rock influence. Thrice are a good part of the reason I got into prog. Examples to consider: "Where Idols Once Stood" (Unusual structure) "A Living Dance Upon Dead Minds" (alternating 7/8 and 8/8 time signatures, chorus is in 6/8 rather than 4/4 for the last go) "Deadbolt" (dispersed measures of 7/16, unusual structure, and count that piano outro) from Artist in the Ambulance (Illusion of Safety part II) "Cold Cash and Colder Hearts" "Hoods on a Peregrine" and "Melting Point of Wax" (in 5/8 and 6/8) "Silhouette" and "Paper Tigers" (in 6/8 and 7/8) "Blood Clots and Black Holes" (measure and sections of 7/8 throughout, ending has measures of 8-5-8-6-8-7-8-8) "The Abolition of Man" (Structure? What structure? 7/8 here and there) from Vheissu (Thrice calms down a bit, but still explodes violently on occasion) "Between the End and Where We Lie" (Borrows from post-rock and electronica; chorus is in 7/8 and 9/8) "The Earth Will Shake" (Folk influences, 7/8 pre?chorus, also mixed 4/4 and 3/4) "Atlantic" (Nothing really, I just like the song. Maybe some post-rock or something. Whatever.) "Hold Fast Hope" (5/4, and God forgive me, reminds me of Zeuhl. That is a bad thing.) from The Alchemy Index Part I (Fire) (Thrice does what Thrice has always done) "Firebreather" (If you count this right on your first go, you've been listening to way too much Meshuggah) "Backdraft" (5/4, chorus is alternating 5/4-7/4) You get the idea. from The Alchemy Index Part II (Water) (Thrice plays electronica and tributes to Russian Circles) "Open Water" and "Lost Continent" (Blatent post-rock rips) "Night Diving" (Russian Circles could have written this and nobody would have been surprised) "The Whaler" (Reminds of The Album Leaf, but in 5/4)
Yes, Yes and YES man! I love them for their time signatures. I just talked to a friend about Thrice and why I love them. First: the lyrics have had me thinking a lot throughout all their albums, especially TBEITBN and Palms. (And I haven't got time to read the lyrics to the new album) But also their rhythms, beats, patterns, changes throughout the songs are so clever and really are unique in my music collection.
So Strange I Remember You, Acoustic version is probably my favourite track from their entire catalogue. N I know ALL their covers "missing" album🤔🤣 n 1st Impressions....which I love! Good stuff guys!🍻🙌
RSE is one of their best songs ever, it's just... Emotionally a mind blow-er Robotically exacting emotion, is my interpretation Safety and familiarity vs potential and Love
Fellas, there's another new Phinehas single out - 'Eternally Apart.' judging by your reaction to their other single, this new one will BLOW YOUR MINDS! Love your reactions guys keep it up!
I know this won't make much sense. But Thrice to me make "Music". Others make "songs/tunes". Same as Radiohead, Jinjer etc. Everyone is on the same level.
Would love to see you guys react to the new song from Eidola called Perennial Philosophy! Came out just the other day, really liked your reaction video to Counterfeit Shrines

I wanted more hard robot from this song. I love the singer's voice but it kinda sounds like he's keeping it pulled back all the time? Wish he'd open it up more often like towards the ending that was definitely my fav part of the song 👌🏻
How about that new Tom Macdonald track!! 175k views in the first hour.. gunna be a big song.. not bad for a independent artist whose girlfriend shoots all his music videos. he is getting to that next level!

Thrice has always been hit and miss for me. No doubt extremely talent but their music doesn't always register for me. Loved the last single, didn't like this as much when i listened to it earlier but it's growing on me.
I love Johnny's passion for Thrice. You gotta love Thrice to get it.
I think one of the major reasons I like Thrice so much is Dustin Kensrue’s voice is so unique and compelling.
