Quick safety tip for everyone. Connect your lead to the van first, then connect to the power post last. When disconnecting, disconnect from the power post first. I have seen campers connect to the post first and then drag a live cable across wet grass. BAD IDEA. Live cables and moisture do not mix well, especially when you have a roll of it in your arms. 👍
Many thanks Paul for pointing that out. I have always completely unrolled next to the van then drag the end to connect over to the post but never actually thought about it.
It also helps with power surge (I think it's called?), last year on a site in Spain. People that would connect to post first and then van would blow the post fuse. Doing it the right way seemed to even out the electric and post fuse didn't blow... It happened to a few vans! It was only 6amp. It did seem to happen with the bigger vans and RVs!
Thanks for the tip. It also helps if you ensure that everything is turned off (or better still unplugged) before you hook up especially with the low amp sites.
Please excuse my lack of understanding, Why would they switch the Live and Neutral? is it in case it has been wired wrong or some other reason? Good video. Thank you for sharing.
It's not wrong as such alternating current works no matter which way it flows as such. It's actually a question of what the socket switch cuts off. In Europe it must cut off both live and neutral. But the UK used to only cut off the live. So if the live and neutral are reversed then switching it off at the socket doesn't isolate the power to what ever is plugged in.
@@phodetheus Thank you for replying. I did a further search to find out the reason and found reverse polarity which is used on many European campsites. So thank you for that.
Very good video thank you. My 12v keeps blowing a fuse and I have noticed on ehh the socket is loose and probably need replacing. Two questions, do you think this could be the problem and is it east to replace. It is a 1998 Peugeot Talisman. Thank you. David.
Hi, We don't bother with UK TV when we are out of the UK. Tend to mostly read or watch movies and series from Apple iTunes. Many thanks for your kind comment and will keep on producing the videos. Gary
My Bessacarr E560 EHU only charges the leisure battery. It has never charged the starter battery. Is this normal or is something broken? I’d greatly appreciate any advice. Thanks.
I can't say specifically for the Bessacarr but it is quite possible that this is correct. My EHU does not charge my starter battery. If your starter battery is draining while being parked you can fit a battery saver which trickle charges your starter battery from your leisure batteries.
Gary Burfield-Wallis . Many thanks for that information. It was quite a shock to pack up ready to go home after the extended holiday, only to find that my cab battery was completely flat.. I had to fit one of the leisure batteries to get to a garage to buy a new one. Best regards, Don.
Thank you friend for the time you took make that video and teaching us,

Saw somebody getting told off for not doing this on a Camping and Caravanning site!
Hi first time I’ve seen you Hello, helpful info thanks.
Guess you could just plug the polarity tester in socket inside the van save on some space?
You could but I want to know if the polarity is correct before I connect up. Anyway the tester is small and does not take up much space.
Some good advice here. Thank you.
Thank you for the info
How do you use a spliter so hooked up and then put an extension to use on other equipment.
