Our pleasure thank you for watching and commenting
This is the best I've seen on UA-cam. Thank you.
Thank you . We try to keep it simple and basic
Thank you for this recipe.
I transferred this recipe to be poured into an empty Seventh generation brand fabric softener bottle. That is expensive fabric softener for sensitive skin.
Anyway, in this homemade recipe, I used patchouli essential oil. I love the homemade fabric softener so far and it leaves the clothes so soft and fresh!
That is an awesome variation. I bet it performs extremely well. I'm glad it's worked out for you thank you for commenting and sharing your idea with the community
The problem with this is that vinegar and baking soda cancel each other out. Baking soda has a pH of 8.4 (alkaline). Vinegar has a pH of 2.4 to 3.4 (acid), depending on the concentration of the acetic acid, which normally varies from 5-10% for most vinegar that you will purchase in the store.
When you mix the two, you create a chemical reaction that creates Sodium Acetate (NaC2H3O2), which is a salt, and H2CO3, which is CO2 and water (Carbonic Acid, similar to a carbonate beverage). The H2CO3 effect will be quickly lost in the water and you will be left with mostly salt - Sodium Acetate. Better to use only vinegar and essential oil. Baking soda can be added to the wash cycle if you have hard water. The vinegar in the rinse cycle will help to remove any soap residue (if you are using commercial soap).
It doesn't mix completely and it's not as black and white as you're putting it. But sodium acetate has been used in the past for cleaning and softening principles in wool. Which is why it works. That said we have another video on a different kind that addresses your exact remarks about this one
the salt will be diluted by water and form vinegar and a strong base (CH3COONa +H2O = CHECOOH + NaOH) so if its diluted its better than scented vinegar.
Thank you for this recipe I am going to give it a try
Glad to help
This video looks great ❤

Thanxs we try to keep it basic
Great information...there products have gone up in price
Yes they have but bear with us we found a new laundry detergent that cannot be beat as far as price video coming soon.
This is awsome !! we use vinegar but I'm definitely making this version from now on.
We got another one coming you might like too
How do I thin down store bought Ultra Downy fabric softener ? The whole bottle feels thick, doesn't shake at all. I have had it sitting on a shelf and never opened it until a few days ago. 😊😊😊😊
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR ALL YOUR HELP! 😃 😃 😃 😃
We have videos how to make your own
Good tip thanks for sharing!
Thank you for watching
After playing detective and finding out the cause of my daughter's dermatitis lm now looking for a natural washpowder and comfort and came across your channel....so lm going to give your recipe a go...l like the sound of all natural ingredients although lm abit nervous of the smell of vinegar coming through....
You wont smell it in laundry
I use vinegar to set color in yarn. It rinses out completely in water.
Once dry you won’t smell any vinegar, same if you use it for your hair, it will dry clean smelling

👍
I'm wondering if the BS grit stays in the clothes. I use it to make my laundry detergent, but that is gelled. I currently just use vinegar to soften. I love the addition of essential oils. But can you tell me the use of the baking soda. I just want to understand the properties and how they function. Ty.
No it does not
Baking soda is in most laundry detergents especially the arm and Hammer brand put some on a spoon add some water watch how fast it breaks down it just lifts dirt and stains but it also softens
Thank you Missy. You seem so nice. What ingredient softens the clothes?
Thank you
The vinegar is what softens but the baking lifts embedded dirt and oils which also helps soften
Does it fade out the colour of bright fabric? Also thank you so much for getting straight to the point explaining it so well and being so efficient!
No issues with it fading in our use
@@thefrugalhomestead7873 thank you for answering!
Vinegar usually preserves color... remember it is used in egg coloring.
Which brand of the essential oils do you use. Thanks
Lately we just been using the ones from Walmart
Hi! How long does this mixture last on the shelf?
If in an airtight container like a jar with a sealed lid probably a year obviously you have to shake it very well and if you let it sit too long you may actually have to stir it and shake it good
Great ! Why do you put viga ? What is benefit ?
Helps hold stasis also helps soften
Nice. I was making this in third grade and didn't even know it. I thought I was making a Volcano. Thank you.
The good old days of volcano making lol
This looks great! Does your clothes come out soft?
Yes very
What can i use to get lavender flavour fragance?
Lavender essential oil
What can I use to make sta soft thick,
???
Missy, or anyone who has tried this, I have two questions: does this leave any type of vinegar smell in the clothes and does this help with static reduction?
No smell and slightly can help with static . Hanging clothes to dry can allow no static .
No it does not leave a vinegar smell on your clothes 😊
Veneger%?
How many Quantity may mix in water?
Can we mix direct in liquid detergent during washing clothes in Machine?
I used 5% vinegar, 1/4 cup in the washer and yes you can add it when you put in your detergent. Thanks for watching, please let me know it you have more questions!
Does it soften as good as chemical softener
When you use correctly we feel it is far superior especially on towels
Is it safe to use in high efficiency washer?
I dont own one but I see no reason it would be an issue
I think it's not safe since vinager helps to destroy slowly the band that it's on your washing machine. It is environmental yes but try it only if you hand wash
@@asuka3407 I’m sure the baking soda will neutralise the acid in the vinegar and not make it corrosive
how long does it last?
Years
Could you possibly use or tell how many milliliters
Sure thing, here you go.
236 ml of baking soda
710 ml of white vinegar
15 drops of essential oil
Hope this helps!
doesnt bakin soda + vinegar just neautralize eachother ?
No it neutralizes acid spills. When using conjunction they are not only a cleaner but also a fabric softener
Can you use distilled vinegar?
Yep
Thank you so much for your video. May the lord bless u with peace koy and love❤💜💙❤🌷
How many oz is that jar?
Quart
Can I add hair conditioner in it???
Yes should not hurt
I only looked this up after finding out fabric softener breaks washing machines. Much better for the machine and no toxins
Yep exactly.
Instead of using essential oils, can I use cologne instead?
You can feel free to try it but that's alcohol-based so that may affect some fabrics
@@thefrugalhomestead7873 then I shouldn't try it.
If you value your health, don't use Cologne/perfume. It's usually full of toxic chemicals.☠️⚠️ ...and it's toxic for anyone breathing it😬
Companies don't need to disclose what they put in artificial fragrances because it's covered under a "proprietary formula". There's over 300 chemicals that could be in that, including things like formaldehyde and benzene, and a long list of other toxic chemicals and petroleum derivatives.
What's the solution?? 100% pure Essential Oils made from plants. Better for your health and better for the planet.
I hang dry my clothes will your recipe soften my clothes? Thanks
It will slightly help but we hang dry our clothes as well and pretty much nothing will stop them from getting hard from being on the line much like towels.
how do they taste
Probably not a good idea to eat it.
@@thefrugalhomestead7873 thanks just got discharged from the hospital, it was not a good idea.🤒
Doesn't the oil stain the clothes?
Nope it dilutes it but it's also a clear liquid
Nope
Can you still smell the vinegar?
Nope not at all
Does it control static cling
Not really but we have been hang drying our laundry alot lately so very lottle static
I don’t mean to be rude but doesn’t mixing vinegar and baking soda just make water and carbon dioxide?
Probably should watch the video cuz there's more than just that
And technically it releases carbon dioxide That's not what it turns into it still has liquid chemical properties and if you use it it will work. But I'm not against you buying fabric softener from the store that's full of chemicals because I can't tell you what to do with your clothing this was just trying to offer up an option
@@thefrugalhomestead7873 The second half of this comment got really defensive for no reason. They asked a legitimate question, they weren’t criticizing you. They are here because they want to use alternates to store bought fabric softeners. And you don’t address the vinegar and baking soda not neutralizing each other in the video.
@@TacosYBurritos8P you may have taken it that way but after answering thousands of comments just like this and worse you will develop a shorter nature and hand them back other alternatives if they don't like the ones that you are presenting You're already making the effort to give them options and alternatives when they come in the comments and start criticizing it or question it without taking the time to write out a complete comment on why they're thinking or what they're asking or anything else then yes you can get slightly defensive but we put forth the time in the effort to make the video if you can't be bothered to put in more than two settings comments then you have to expect you're going to get whatever response you get. And you chimed in on it doesn't make the situation any better I would encourage you to go make your own video like this and watch the responses you get.
Technically no, as white vinegar is also an anti bacterial agent. It's not only great at disinfecting 'soiled' items, but it also helps keep your machine clean, as it dissolves lime scale.
Please tell me, does it smell like vinegar? I hate the smell of vinegar and wouldn't want to smell it on my clothes
No you do not smell the vinegar at all
Y u
Ummm 🤔
I tried this and the only problem I found was when I added it to the softener cup by the time the cycle got to rinse the baking soda had settled and ended up not going into the rinse water. Has anyone had this problem?
We shake it before we do it but we put it in manually now. Some washers shake so much to actually shakes it out of solution
Reading from a teleprompter?
