I lived near Cathkin Park for a couple of years, but came across it by accident while out cycling. It was like suddenly finding something out of ancient Rome!
Exactly how I found it a few years ago then I started to use it as a route when out cycling. I always wondered what the red ash oval was for in the corner near the high school then one day found out its a cycle speedway track and a club meet there on Sundays in the summer.
Cathkin park was the home of Queens park ,before they moved to the hampden park which was Queens parks third home , I played there as a child , and strimmed it when working for the parks ,and I dont just mean the park but also the terracing
its pretty odd , my back garden is facing the trees and I walk my dogs there every day , lived there for over 15 years now and sometimes when the games arent on at hampden you can hear what sounds like football crowds , its quite ghost like , and my partner insists its the ghosts of the old ground. The place Is fantastic in all weather , the magpie crowd that live there now are impressive to see flying all at once.
I like this video......when I was very young I played in the goalmouths in the derelict Cathkin, in overgrown grass. I climbed over the walls with my mates to get in, it was quite eerie. I went back recently and it was a very weird feeling to be back on the pitch! Those barriers on the terraces are not the originals (they were concrete) but the small wall round the pitch is the original wall. The terracing stairs and standing areas are still the original one's I think.
The land has some historic legal stipulation stating that it can only ever be used as playing fields. Bill Hiddleston the crooked Third Lanark owner ran the club into the ground and pocketed transfer fees for players the club sold culminating in the club running out of money and being liquidated in 1967. Hiddleston sold the ground to property developers who knew nothing of the ban on building there and realised they had been sold a dud. Hiddleston died of a heart attack shortly after and escaped any repercussions.
I stay 5 minutes from cathkin park never knew about it looked into its history what a team Third Lanark were plus it used too hold 50.000 ppl heard a story that the new Third Lanark wanted too rebuild a stadium on cathkin park .
In what way? I was in Cathkin park on Sunday and could hear the crowd at Hampden. I even provided video evidence but if you dont believe me there is another game at Hampden this weekend if you want to go and soak up the atmosphere in person.

I’ve walked through this many a times. When you are there, I did recall on how silent it was, despite the local noise outside.

Amazed that this place hasn't been built on .
