  • Buck Robertson Contracting is a family-run, custom home-building company (general contractor) based on Vancouver Island. This video documents the process of "getting out of the ground" - which (in most jobs) is your unknown. Here we will show you the first few steps on getting your foundation set in order to start building your brand new carriage home (or any dream home you wish to get started on). We will also highlight some of the unexpected issues that could pop up along the way - as every house is a prototype and with that there are sometimes bumps in the road.

Do you dream about your "forever home"? We dream about building that for you - and in this video, we also share the key points on how a carriage house is the building block to your future.
Go ahead and click 'play' to get an inside sneak peek of what you could start building today - and as always, thank you for watching.
At Buck Robertson Contracting, we do contracting with communication. If you would like your house built with communication, call us today or visit us at www.BuckRobertsonContracting.com

Thanks, much appreciated. We will be finishing this project to a lock-up stage there will be drywall and a little flooring and some rough fixtures like a toilet and a laundry sink. But we have a second video not sure if you have seen it or not but give it a look and we have another video of a carriage house we finished.

Can one person do it by himself ?

So depending on where you live this may or may not be something that could be done. It would be a lot of work for one person and depending on building knowledge would determine if possible. If you are talking about in British Columbia, Canada you would need to either have a “home builder license” or a homeowner builders license. Please let me know if this was helpful or if you are looking for more information.

@@buckrobertsoncontracting in Edmonton. My handy man has 30 year experience. He is good at all things but not licenced in anything. His best skills are in finishing. I can get a licenced framer “shell maker” to do one part of the job and let my handy man finish it. It’s my assumption. I just feel hvac and permits and everything put together is a lot for me as a novice to be my own general contractor

You are correct being a general contractor is a full time job and understand your local bylaws is a maze that most don’t want to travel down. I suggest that you a a GC so they can be your North Star for your project and allow for a great overall outcome. Take time to interview many builders (GC) to understand how they work and find one that you feel communicates well with you. Then go into a design contract followed by a construction contract so you and the builder both know what is expected of one another.

@@buckrobertsoncontracting thank you so much. It’s funny how I do a couple of diy home projects and think I can manage to do a full build project.
