Mir sahab we are supposed to have good relations with international community. I am astonished to listen all majority of the guest speakers blaming IMF or other financial institutions I m of opinion that its all the bad governance I admire IMF belling out Pakistan in financial crisis. The loans r meant to be used as per contract. We r responsible.

Reduce your defence expenditure to at least half of the existing level. Only then Pakistan can survive. With an economy of around $350 billion it is impossible to maintain such a large army. Don't beat the bush and come to the real point.

Pakistan can do without IMF, the ruling elite will have to think about the common people. Pakistan needs national concensus. Pakistan will have to focus on agriculture, skill development for jobs, improvement in education, import substitution. Don't go by the past rates of growth etc. They were propped up, look from where and for what the money was coming. It was not an organic growth. Growth will have to come from bottom of society. Unfortunately I don't see any leader with that kind of vision, intentions, commitment, capability and acceptance across Pakistan..
Don't blame politicians they could never form long term policies. They never had the luxury of continuity. Who is responsible for that? Foreign policy and economic policies have to be continued, there has to be sense of continuous process..

Even if the Pakistani Govt starts implementing the lady economist's recommendations, it will take a few years for Pakistan's balance of payment crisis to be brought under control. For the immediate crisis, Pakistan has no option but to go to IMF since, no country is willing to extend a loan to Pakistan.
She is suggesting buying goods in local currency. The question is, who will be willing to sell goods for Pakistani currency?
Especially at this point in time when the country is on the verge of bankruptcy.

The tragedy is that Pakistan has some brilliant economists, some in Pakistan and some abroad, but the politicians don't listen to them. One brilliant economist finance minister was thrown out simply because he was an Ahmedia. Simply unbelievable for most non Pakistanis. Mifta Ismail was doing the right things, but was removed because his decisions, though very much in the interest of the country, were not in the interest of the ruling party. Now, they are having to take even tougher and more unpopular decisions under pressure from IMF and after losing valuable time.
