SPECTRAL WOUND play black metal. Furious and visceral, untrammelled by esoteric posture or grasping idealism. It is music for the poisoned, the futile, the debauched and profane. The blooming of a flower of corruption, torn by cold winds.
Following the raw early offering of Terra Nullius (Arcane Angels/Out of Season 2015) Spectral Wound continued their path of creeping, opulent decay and searing melody, weaving strands of Métal noir Québécois with the weft of the Scandinavian canon. Refining its sound over Infernal Decadence (Vendetta, 2018) and the towering, exultant melancholy of A Diabolic Thirst (Profound Lore, 2021), with Songs of Blood and Mire (Profound Lore 2024) the band delivers an elegy of the void, seething with the venom and clamour of an ever-emptying world.

It's fine. They can't go blastbeating all the time, so I appreciate them going mid-paced and punky for once, sort of like Akitsa or Ildjarn.
while they are blastier, Lamp of Murmurr had a similar shift in sound with "Saturnian Bloodstorm".
@@anthonyjordan830 I don't you can compare those two cases, in Lamp of Murmuur's case they went from playing some sort of gothic rock inflected black metal on Submission and Slavery to full on Immortal worship on Saturnian Bloodstorm. Spectal Wound haven't really changed their sound at all, this is just a midpaced track that a lot of the same bands they were/are influenced by have done before. The slower parts of Infernal Decadence and A Diabolic Thirst are very much in the same vein as this song.

Don't hear any crust in this, this is basically mid-paced Finnish/Quebecois style black metal similar to what they've been playing on previous albums.

@@ROFLBOB24 You've never heard bands like Forteresse, Deletere, Cantique Lepreux, Sorcier des Glaces, Csejthe etc before? There's been a well documented black metal scene in Quebec for decades now.

Ive always seen Spectral Wound as a fresh and powerful modern homage to a lot of different BM styles. Classic BM elitist, go listen to Burzum for the 666th time. Well be over here enjoying ourselves
