  • ’Elected’ peaked at #4 in the UK chart on October 28th 1972. It then went down to #5, back up to #4, and down to #11, as per this Top of the Pops clip broadcast on November 16th 1972, with The Jackson 5 hit ‘Lookin’ Through the Windows’ playing.
On the Top of the Pops show a week earlier when ‘Elected’ was #4, on that show recorded on November 8th and broadcast the next day, Alice introduced The Jackson 5, before getting pissed in the BBC bar with Marc Bolan, Keith Moon, Harry Nilsson and co, and then heading down to Morgan Studios in Willesden for the Superstar jam, which was a drunken mess, before Bob Ezrin kicked them out the studio.
As with a lot of the BBC Top of the Pops stuff, this has probably been wiped forever when they criminally reused tape, but private collectors sometimes unearth footage thought lost.
