Stubagful it's a soap opera, they're all the same, repetitive garbage, one dimensional characters and follow the same 5 plots every year.
I've had to watch Hollyoaks all my life because it's all my mum and sister watch. Pray for me Stu.

Domestic drama has never appealed to me I just can't sit through it without wanting to scream.
Guy Grist I feel the same. Domestic settings only really work for sitcoms and other comedies.
Even domestic sitcoms don't really appeal to me, although I do have a bit of a tin ear for humour.

Another thing Bojack Horseman dose right is that it shows that it's possible to characterize things that aren't human. It really annoys Me when people try to counter my complaints about Doctor Who having to many human companions with the bullshit excuse "being human makes a character more relatable and it's easier to write them". Farscape and The amazing world of Gumball are able to make good charters and good story's wile 99% of the charters are not human.
And something else I realized is that The amazing world of Gumball is able to use popular tends without feeling cringy is because they use the popular trends to make fun of how ridicules the popular trends are.

I quickly learn that it's OK to be in the minority in liking or hating things since Family Guy was popular in some of the schools I went to for some stupid reason.
How has it lasted for 5 days a week, almost 52 weeks a year for decades? Seriously, my sister still really likes it somehow.
To be fair tho skins is pretty great like I really enjoy how each episode focuses on a character and because for example this character is a metal head all the music in the episode is metal music, I've never enjoyed hollyoaks but I will always defend skins

I alway thought I didn't like holly oaks because I was old, it always reminded me of a discount version of Brookside after it went crap....but someone out there watches it so who knows

Hollyoaks tries to be deep and “emotional” but I’ve never been able to take it seriously because it feels like a Channel 4 show. It feels like a bunch of cynical people trying desperately to “appeal” to specific audiences. Even though it’s supposed to be dark and gloomy, it still feels fake and condescending and I feel the same way about Skins. It also does the typical thing Channel 4 does. “Hey look everyone, look at this amazing new thing which hasn’t been seen before which we developed! Bet you won’t see this on ITV or BBC, it’s completely brand new!” I’m of course talking about their constant ratings traps which “compete” with other networks. They have used this style in Hollyoaks because they just have to because they’re so out of ideas and because of that, Hollyoaks just feels so fake.
The only good young adult show Channel 4 ever produced was the first two series of Misfits in my eyes.

Yeah, the demographics stuff has always baffled me. You identify with good characters who are well written and acted, regardless of their age or background or whether they're anything remotely like you.
