Thanks for joining us! I can't thank you enough for watching this episode. Be sure to stick around to the end. This encounter gets more interesting as it goes on. Cheers!
The residents really should get an F. Not for lack of knowledge, but their complete lack of ability to state their case clearly and the aggressive attitude that could have sent the whole situation to another level. That guy is really lucky he was dealing with a cop so level headed.
I disagree, I think you should stop grading citizens altogether. We have courts for that. And we shouldn't hold police and civilians to the same standard anyway. One has to do better, in fact they are paid for it, I'd even bet somewhere in their rhetoric they've even said as much. This cop gets a C- for flexing his badge when he was told to leave after he stated there was nothing he could do about the call anyway. Other man was irate because he just had some circus clown dump water on everything he, his wife, and his kids likely own. And his consolation prize is a few nights at a hotel and the cop he asked for help crossing their arms and saying "it's a civil matter hur derka derka dur." Man wanted a police report, for the record, there was no harm in filling one out it would of only taken a few minutes and yes, even in civil court it could be brought forward. Yet this cop refused, why? I heard his bs answer but do you think that man would of gotten so pissed off if piggy didn't tell him no. He could of just let they guy fill one out and avoided this entire video. Audit the audit I give you an F for grading residents and victims and not sticking to your area of expertise and only grading auditors and cops. These people are not there in any official capacity they are victims, they are irate, they are not trying to record police interactions and keep cops accountable, THEY NEEDED THE COPS. They are not at work as a self narrating camera guy or at work keeping the peace. They were at their house making lunch. Stop grading civilians or I'm going to call you out on it every single time prick.
Lol I was thinking about how irritated I would be if I didn't know the difference between a civil and a criminal matter..because I'm just irritated about the property damage.
@@BanginSevenGrams As an attorney, I will say that clients are often infuriated to find out something is a civil matter. When you're the victim being caused terrible harm or inconvenience, the last thing you want to hear is that the government cannot and will not step in to protect you, but you instead have to spend your own time, money, and energy seeking reparation. Most people think (justifiably) that a key role of the government is to use their might to set things right when someone wrongs you, but what they don't realize is that if the wrong is civil in nature, the government will only set things right AFTER you'd filed a suit, argued it in court, and won a judgment, and that's a lengthy, costly process. It's honestly a really shitty loophole that needs to be fixed; unfortunately, most of this country's civil law was formulated by the people with the deepest pockets - corporations and landlords and such, not the ordinary people who suffer harm from them.
@@ajm5007 well there is good reason for some of those restrictions though. Do we really want to spend untold resources on situations like these? This was an issue between two individual parties. Government needs not intervene until the two appeared in court. The proper place for this argument to take place.
I have lived in Columbus for many years this is one of the few departments that does just have bad apples the vast majority of the police officers are good upstanding people I have always had positive encounters with in 25 years I've only been treated poorly by 1 officer he was borderline obese with a bad attitude. I've seen these officers go out of their way to help people giving jumps helping rather than harassing homeless giving rides even pushing broken down or stuck in the snow cars for people. Overall great department.
This cop was fighting a losing battle. He wasn't going to get through to that guy. The contractor seemed reasonable. The cop has the patience of a saint for staying as long as he did.
@@trapOrdoom Delusion. Your statements clearly come from a place of hatred. I hope that you only have good encounters with cops in the future so you can feel safer and more at ease.
Trap or Doom It seems as though that the bad employee that can’t or doesn’t know how to do their job or is a straight up idiot always gets promoted. Unluckily for the community this guy will probably not get promoted as quickly because he can do his job.
Patient and professional? Sorry, you haven't watched enough of these. I will NEVER praise a cop for doing his job the way he was supposed to. Now if he gave them a ride to the hotel or helped them pack, I'd praise his professionalism. But just doing his job? That's what he's SUPPOSED to do.
see how fucked up you people are? you just applauded someone for doing the very thing they are supposed to you don't see that? he doesn't get a fuck from me this is rarer than rare
I think it helps that the wife(gf?) was there because she was able to keep him from getting too in your face and potentially assaulting the officer by trying to remove him from the property. So props to her as well.
Imagine getting told by your fellow officers that you're on Audit the Audit, only to be added that you got an A+ unlike 99.99% of other officers on here lol.
its going to be biased that way; we largely see bad cops on this channel because bad police conduct will prompts citizens to request bodycam footage, which is then shared online. Conversely, when people have good police interactions, they are satisfied, and will probably not bother requesting any footage, and so "good cops" will remain mostly invisible.
@@dragondynastywarrior506 You are so correct it hurts my mind that there sadly is a large amount of people who do not see it from multiple perspectives and will just conclude ''we only see bad cops because there only are bad cops''

Right he was calm and collected even when the man was throwing harsh words and many attempts to get in his face. Police are supposed to keep situations from escalating and him walking away and not pride taking over was outstanding and S Tier forget a A+
This officer's level of calm is *S* tier. He walked away before that dude could do something to get himself locked up. And the couple only gets a C if they are being graded on an average, because the dude completely failed.
@@TSears2010 exactly. Neither side is focused on their constituents and creating policies to make everyday living better. They’re just lining their pockets.
Except he was in a situation that would make just about anyone be upset and possibly act irrationally. And if we're going to expect the police to behave according to legal standards and rationality, according to training and job responsibilites, I think a bit of leeway should also go to random citizens like shown here.
I had a dentist who refused to provide my dental records at one point. When I filed a complaint with the dental licensing board, she called the police to protect her and it started a year-long nightmare for me. I'm pretty sure she had a friend on the force because the city attorney and the police chief ended up getting involved. The worst part was that the cop wrote a falsified report claiming she had give me my dental records which she used to defend herself with the licensing board and federal HIPAA enforcement agency. It was a big deal because she had done negligent work and the my insurance wouldn't pay to fix it without examining the records which I couldn't get. I needed several thousand in dental work to replace the tooth she destroyed. It was eye-opening and heart breaking to have the entire department working against me in a case they never should have been involved in in the first place. It was doubly frustrating because they kept helping her but when I would ask them to correct their mistakes like writing a false report, they just said it was a civil matter and they couldn't get involved. But you already freaking did! Just fix what you broke!
@@stringwhore So, I tried to file a complaint with the department about the officer who wrote the false report because it was the most objective, easily, falsifiable. The officer assigned to investigate simply refused to investigate so I tried to file a complaint against him, but internal affairs refused to take it. So I demanded a meeting with the police chief who pretty much admitted that I was getting hosed but said he just didn't care. The city attorney was actually kind of on my side and stopped the police from filing fictitious harassment charges, but said nothing could be done about the false reports because no charges had been filed. I talked to a private attorney who said the same thing, if there are no charges filed, it isn't technically illegal to write a false police report. In the end, I got enough email evidence to throw enough doubt on the report that I did win my case with the federal HIPAA enforcement agency and the dentist was put on probation. I had already paid to fix my tooth and wasn't able to recover the money from insurance. I also had a baby during this time and just gave up the fight for my own mental health. Years later when the department had a new number 2, I contacted him and asked him to revisit the case. He said that in the official record, it claimed that they didn't pursue the investigation into the complaint because the officer had voluntarily left the department. (He went to another department nearby and I don't think it had anything to do with this episode.) He said that that finding didn't really make sense with the timeline of the case or the breadth of the complaint. He also said it was clear they had dropped the ball on this investigation and should have handled things differently, but since it was so long ago, nothing could be done. The chief is still there being incompetent and covering up for incompetent/corrupt officers.
@@hydrodudes5135police can shoot people. It's dangerous to call them recklessly. People have weaponized the police to settle petty disputes or handle vendettas that can escalate dangerously. Even in situations like an Autistic child acting out can end in death when police are called. I know it sounds silly but not every cop is gonna deescalate and they're not social workers
I see this behaviour exhibited so often in America. No one there seems to point out that this is straight up psychopathy. This isn't normal. This is terrifying behaviour that is not coherent with modern society anywhere in the world. This is how a toddler behaves. Except this toddler is a full sized adult capable of violence. People like this need to be in an asylum, not out where they can hurt people. Given how casually he began striking a stranger, and struck his wife in front of a cop, I have no doubt this monster has abused and battered many women and men. People like that should be in a cage, not allowed out where they can injure and kill.
They did not call the police as a "civil mediator," as evident by their reaction when the officer was trying to give them the information they needed. They called the police as attack dogs. Furthermore, the male tenant hit the contractor, shoved the female tenant, and made false statements against the contractor to the officer. C- is an extremely generous grade for the male tenant.
@@docblaq Even if he had a gun the contractor really didn't have business with him. That was the true professionalism of the officers. He was trying to get him in trouble where the gun or know gun became a issue. He got a attitude when none of his foolishness worked.
@@boydbryant2353 Agreed !! They tried to use the cop as an attack dog just like what Karen's do. Officer gets an absolute A+ in my eyes he does a fantastic job and knew he had no jurisdiction in the stance of issue as it stood properly, I think this man deserves recognition for how he handled his job and needs to help train officers for situations of handling issues of this matter and many others in the future
It's amazing what people will call the police for. For which they will call the police. I dunno, I wasn't an English major. My participle sometimes dangles. 😂
@@LordTreeko I think so, the officer clearly de escalates the situation between the contractor and the tenant. Then the officer keeps the tenant at bay while the contractor leaves. Do you see that differently?
Imagine being in your 40's and 50's and still not knowing that you don't call the Police over civil matters. You have a problem with the work the contractor did or is doing? Hire a lawyer, don't phone the police. I can assure you, they won't be holding court on the sidewalk the day of your call.
Eh, I can understand people not knowing this. It's nuanced knowledge that (thankfully) not a whole lot of people have to use frequently enough to actually know and understand it. Does that mean that the tenant is justified in getting upset at the officer for not doing anything to help them or for berating the officer? Of course not. Should they have listened to the distinction between civil and criminal law and gone forth in finding a lawyer? Probably.
Not everybody has to deal with something like that. Calling the police over a civil matter wasn't at all an issue, the cop informed him and that should have been that. The problem is that you act like a little child when he realized the police aren't just going to arrest somebody or force them to give them money.
I can just imagine this guy in front of a small claims judge without a lawyer somehow talk himself into prison for insulting the judge for not immediately taking his side.
I think the C- was a bit generous. They were both being combative and acting like they were under the influence of something. Not to mention that they wasted city resources over something that was clearly a civil issue. They should've just let the property owner and the contractor hash this out while they documented the damage to their own property. If the result was unacceptable to them, then they should contact an attorney. Not the police.
I tend to agree with you there. The best bet is to just leave because his presence there was starting to cause more and more animosity, so at that point, it’s best to just leave and not have to deal with the potential of more drama and possible criminal action. It’s best to choose your battles, and I think he chose wisely.
C- is very generous but I understand why both sides are held to different standards, Police officers are meant to be trained and have experience. They're also paid for this. You'd expect a staff member at Starbucks to serve you better coffee than a random dude under a bridge.
What did they expect this officer to do? Stand there with a gun to the contractors head and force him to finish the work? Where do you find these people...🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
I would say the yellow pages but in this day and age they hang out on the internet. The guy that lives in the house is a stone nut. He is probably pissed at his entire life. He possibly thinks he should be an astrophysicist working at NASA trying to launch the next manned flight to Jupiter, but here is, living beneath his dignity in a shabby leaky roof rent house on Section 8, that is slowly collapsing around him, so yeah, he is probably pissed to the highest level of pissivety. Legit, was he supposed to scream at the contractor and make him finish the roof faster than physically possible? Or put him in handcuffs because your landlord needs the roof fixed? Im confused 😂
I was thinking no higher than a D myself. A few times he took aggressive steps towards the officer, and some of his language was borderline “fighting words” as the video describes. Despite asking for Police intervention, he kept interrupting the cop. His staggering mannerisms indicate he might have even been under the influence or alcohol, which coupled with his verbal language and aggressive steps towards the officer could have provoked a physical altercation if the officer weren’t so disciplined.
@@pesco7 there was a video posted a few months ago that ATA stated “walking aggressively” toward a cop isn’t illegal in any way. This situation was in Colorado though and I know he often sites the state laws of the incidents
This exact thing happened to me. After a completely new roof was fully installed rain did not occur for four months. When it rained on Christmas Eve, water was rushing in to my dining room and my guest bedroom. I never even thought of calling the cops. Roofers came out the following business day, tarpped where the leaks were, and a few days later the roofing company took the roof down to the studs and re re built the roof at no charge. Sh!t happens. That is life.
Yeah you shoulda called the cops. And then you shoulda told them that your roofer has an unmarked gun in his car. But hey, if you want to be doing it the wrong way, thats your problem.

An example of some with their head screwed on the right way and who probably joined for the right reasons. If departments did a better job screening candidates and made overall training more thorough and rigorous, instead of letting anyone with a high school diploma join the force, this kind of interaction would be the norm on this channel.
@@gta4everrr then there would need to be a country wide standard set in place. If that was the case, then you have cities that would have no LEO on staff. Reasons for high school diploma in some areas is because there are minuscule populations in said areas. No colleges nearby with programs that lead to finalized education. Population in said areas are small like I said. Lastly, there are very few states/cities that only require a high school diploma. @@justinbenoit1820 That's his perspective, and nothing I can say will diminish that. Nevertheless, this is an open forum and more than one perspective can apply. When I was in school an A+ was reserved for those exceptional students that not only met the requirements, but went above and beyond those requirements and far exceeded expectations necessary to do so: 1) Going inside to look at the damage. 2) Offering advice such as telling the tenant to take photos of the damage and itemize those things that need replacement or repair. 3) Standing by while the tenant called the landlord. 4) Asking the tenant, "what can I do to help?" Wow, that officer handled himself so professionally that this interaction on video needs to be used as training 101 for all officers old and new. He could have done so much that could have been devastating to this family even more but he showed heart and restraint after tension was strong due to the situation they was in. This man earned my respect so much I want to say thank you sir for being both an Officer and a Gentleman because we need more of this type of officers
I agree 100%. Sadly it doesn't seem too common anywhere I've had interactions with police officers. There's only been two times that they were empathetic towards my situation. I was illegally pulled over twice in the same county. I had to deal with the hassle of being questioned and having my vehicle searched with no probable cause. The kicker is the first time I was pulled over was because I saw my cousin walking down the sidewalk one night driving through town and stopped to give him a ride and he said it was suspicious because of how late it was. The second time the officer stopped me about a quarter mile outside his jurisdiction for my tag light being out. I'm glad to see there's some good ones though.
@@Moon_Presence No he informed them at the start of the conversation that it was a civil matter and that there was no criminal involvement for him to investigate. He kept his demeanour non threatening, he lucidly explained the legality of the situation adequately and clearly and he dealt with the attempts to provoke him to misuse his authority by initiating an unlawful arrest.

I don't know if she deserves an A+ she was the one the started with the attitude when the officer was first explaining that the situation was a civil matter. Azzhat just decided to take that attitude to the next level.
C-? Really? That dude deserved an F. I get he was confused civil and criminal issues, but his aggressive demeanor was inexcusable. I'd have been worried that he was going to take his anger out on her because he was so escalated.
She was trying to keep his ass out of jail and exacerbating the problem at the same time. I'm surprised they didn't end up rolling around on the lawn, the way she was all over him.
Might not even need to be civil. Call the licensing board of contractors in the state. They will do an investigation and make the contractor pay if he is in the wrong. Contactors have to post bond. I had to post $5k in my state. The board can just award you that money immediately if the contractor pisses them off. Az even has a residential recovery fund to pay large damages. They pay you and the contractor won't be able to work again until he pays the state back.

Now THAT cop is a pro! His presence gave the contractor time to go to the hotel to confirm the reservation for the residents. The contractor seemed like an honest guy as well.
That guy sounds completely unhinged. Not sure why the cop tried to continue to reason with him when he very early on was clearly displaying the signs of someone who you'd never get through to.
The man’s partner or wife really deserves credit here for restraining a lunatic. Indeed a gold medal for actually living with and managing a near imbecile.
The husband definitely needs some professional help. But that's really part of dealing with the public. I worked in hospitality for many years and people do bizarre things. Guest would get mad at me because the room key wouldn't work. Things I had zero control over.
After many of your previous videos, it’s nice to see officers who do a good job being recognised as well. He was polite, calm, DE-ESCALATING and everything you want. That he couldn’t help the tenants was through no fault of his own. Some of the officers we have seen would no doubt have managed to turn this into an arrest, this officer instead was thoroughly professional and deserves the commendation at the end of the video.
I live and am born in raised in Columbus and I can say this officer was amazing compared to the officers we have here!!!! He did what he could do legally which is nothing! 🤷🏽♀️ it’s not his fault
Great work on behalf of the police officer that responded to this call. He handled this matter as textbook as anyone possibly could have. He did especially well by not reacting to the increasingly hostile words of the tenant and escalating this matter any further even though the tenant was very close to making threats of physical harm against the officer. The officer simply said, "all right well you have a nice day" and departed the scene in spite of the overtly rude and hostile behavior that was directed towards him. This is exactly the kind of police officers we want on any police force. I hope the tenants got their problems squared away even though they don't deserve it.
Police dispatch should not have send an officer. Dispatch should have told the caller this is civil matter and an officer will not be sent based on the civil nature of the call.
I usually will side with anyone except a cop but...... That guy was an a$$hole and I'm glad that he got rained on.... There was no reason to act like that no matter how upset he was... I hope he sees this video and feel nothing but embarrassment and shame!!!
You don't get to tell someone how they should act who the hell are you????.... That man paid for something that he didn't get his money worth who in the right mind is not complaining about that be quiet clown
Great job from the officer. I truly empathize with the couple as I experienced a similar situation before BUT they are clearly renting the house and the contractor is dealing with the owner NOT the renters. I understand they are upset due to damage sustained from the leakage but this also hints that they were not prepared for the worst outcomes to fixing roofs. BTW, The title is a bit misleading. I came here fully expecting an officer getting kicked off of an old dude's lawn. My disappointment is immeasurable ;p
I commend the officer for his professionalism regarding the issue with the dispute of the house repairs. One criticism. He should have arrested the male tenant for harassment against his partner. The officer clearly witnessed the male tenant slapping the female in his presence. He should have made a arrest.
💪🏾💪🏾 Props to the officer he needs a “A”this is good police work…the sad part is we’ve seen citizens get killed, assaulted and rights violated by the police for less so many times.
@Cerus98 with all due respect you can compare this logic to airplanes. There are thousands of flights that never have issues you only hear about the ones that crash it’s less than 1%. It doesn’t matter if it’s a small amount of bad police interactions based off the total number. That small fraction needs to stop and be held accountable so highlighting that doesn’t take away from the ones who do right. So are all police bad? No. But it’s a small amount that routinely violate citizens rights and they need to be held accountable and the public needs to know about it
@Cerus98 No I don’t get it. You’re trying to say since only a small number of incidents occur it shouldn’t be a issue which is absurd. Holding police accountable shouldn’t be a issue no matter how small the number of times they break the law. No one is asking to get rid of nurses, cashiers etc because you can usually hold those people accountable for wrong doing. There is no qualified immunity for cashiers. The problem is some police can do wrong and have no accountability. Stop trying to turn this into another issue. I never said anything about defunding police. ACCOUNTABILITY is the issue. Authority - Accountability=Tyranny.
@Cerus98 ok so what’s your issue? I never said all cops was racist I never said all cops were bad. You’re bringing up issues about race and black people when that’s not what this is about. Being held accountable for your wrong doing whether it’s a epidemic of it or not is what’s the problem. If 5 out of 1,000 police interactions end in citizens rights being violated and no accountability then that’s a problem.
You do realize that more often than not, the police do a good job when thrust into a volatile situation, don't you? Those incidents are rarely seen as they aren't intriguing enough for the casual viewer looking for excitement to publish. This website serves a valuable purpose but representing the typical police encounter is not one of them.
@@booifojoe Sorry to say, but nobody in this comments section is going to agree with your position. Everyone here likes to hate on cops to make themselves feel better. That being said, you're right.
What a snitch 🤣 that's a childish move "he got a unregistered gun under his seat" what a loser dude. If I was the contractor, I would have just given him the $52 for his stuff that was destroyed
I have dealt with police officers from this department and it's rare to find one that acts this professional. He did a very good job and I wish other officers would learn from him.
I don't to agree with the C- , I rather think they should get a D at the very most or even a F just for misdemeanor and a waste of the police time just in my personal opinion.
Since when is having an unregistered gun illegal? There is no frmederal registration requirement that I know of and my state certainly doesn't have one
I can. Officer yells back or doesn't back away and further incites the man. Man gets angrier and more aggressive and comes at the cop. They scuffle and the man either is arrested for assaulting a police officer or a trigger-happy officer ends up shooting him. There were a lot of ways that could have gone differently in a worse way. Just like any encounter police officers have.
There’s no need to register weapons (in nearly every state) and it’s not illegal to have a weapon in the car. That guy was just trying to get the contractor in trouble.

Appreciate more of these good officer vids! Makes showing this stuff to blue-liners easier. As someone who watches stuff like this and Active Self Protection, I think there's a lot of cross-over that prepares you for dealing with police and normal people people across a bunch of situations. I used to watch asp a lot more. But the community seemed to loose objectivity to me a while back and thought cops could do no wrong imo. But I agree a cross over would be so awesome

Great to see there's some good cops out there. Great attitude, handled the situation perfectly, never escalated, even when being insulted, and provided the necessary info to these people. On the other side, a C- is a bit generous for these people. Although the woman seemed to sort of understand that this was not a police matter the guy just did not want to accept it and reacted very poorly. Maybe the woman kept the grade up and I guess the guy didn't get physical, so I guess there's that. Just an unfortunate situation.

Sounds like you needed a lawyer from the beginning.
I like how u never said what was the end result... Smh
Thanks for the story, this was informative.
Did you win in the end?

Not to mention that they wasted city resources over something that was clearly a civil issue. They should've just let the property owner and the contractor hash this out while they documented the damage to their own property. If the result was unacceptable to them, then they should contact an attorney. Not the police.

Wow, that officer handled himself so professionally that this interaction on video needs to be used as training 101 for all officers old and new. He could have done so much that could have been devastating to this family even more but he showed heart and restraint after tension was strong due to the situation they was in. Officer also could have violated contractor after what was said about gun in car. Instead he did everything right and was respectful throughout and left without any further incident.

Then the officer has to fend off allegations that are being made about the other party because someone is desperate to get his revenge over what he thinks is criminal intent over the poor roofing repair.
He kept his demeanour non threatening, he lucidly explained the legality of the situation adequately and clearly and he dealt with the attempts to provoke him to misuse his authority by initiating an unlawful arrest.

One of the things I wouldn’t be able to handle as an officer is people smoking around me. Ever since quitting I can’t stomach the smell of it for more than a minute. Such a patient officer.

That cop was a supercop! The epitome of calm, cool and collected! He deserves a raise!
Thanks AtA for showing good cops in addition to exposing areas where law enforcement needs to be improved.
Didn't the officer witness an assault on the woman when he slapped her?

Great job by ATA for showing a lot of positive police encounters. It is easy to have a negative taste of police when all we see is bad
I too am disappointed. 🙃
No. But it’s a small amount that routinely violate citizens rights and they need to be held accountable and the public needs to know about it
@@brianrivers6947 agree. That "small amount" is not small enough to stop constant news articles/stories...that's for sure.
@Cerus98 ok if that’s how feel roll with it I’m not trying to change nobody’s mind on the internet especially if I know they’re wrong ✌🏾
The one time I actually side with the police. Never thought it would happen.

I really don't see how this could've played out differently. We as a society didn't educate our people well enough and this is what we get for it.
I can. Officer yells back or doesn't back away and further incites the man. Man gets angrier and more aggressive and comes at the cop.
