I think the troglodytes part of the chimp's scientific name may come from ancient legends of a primitive cave-dwelling people said to live in North Africa, whom the Greeks called Troglodytes. The legend may have originated with misunderstood descriptions of the Pygmy people, or of actual chimps or gorillas.

"Orang" doesn't mean "man", it means "person". Malay was originally gender-neutral (especially older words from the pre-Hindu, pre-Islamic, pre-colonial era) and even in modern times, pronouns and generic words for human/person are gender-neutral so if you're going to explain history and etymology please don't be putting Western gendered grammar and patriarchy where it doesn't belong. Also, the modern spelling of jungle/forest is "hutan" with an H in front.
The word "man" is also often used as gender-neutral term and it was originally even more gender-neutral. If you spell orangutan with an "H", people will think that you are talking about literal jungle tribe instead of a kind of ape

Why do you keep calling humans apes? Apes are pongids not hominids millions of years of evolution and dozens of species separate us.
