    They made a joke of it but I remember when they were building that collider in Waxahachie Tx. We had already spent millions of dollars on it when people petitioned against it for rumors like this and got the project shut down.
    We would have had the Worlds largest particle accelerator in the world , huge missed opportunity.

      Pretty sure when that happens, it’s stated in BBT Sheldon goes over seas to school in Germany, and Georgie helps out around with the family. They are prolly gunna end the show when George died tbh

    Even if it was big enough to swallow the earth (it couldn't be) there's no way it could possibly swallow the moon. How is that guy a professor?

    • @adamk382
      @adamk382 3 роки тому +11

      Back then, some people, including some scientists thought it was theoretically possible but they had no proof so it was more a hypothesis that may happen. Most of what we know now about quantum physics is thanks to the collider. Back then, some scientists even argued black holes didn't exist. Astronomy and quantum physics has developed at the speed of light in recent years. Now we know that even if one was to form, it would evaporate or collapse before doing anything or even if it was somehow stable which is likely impossible, it wouldn't be big enough to do much of anything.

      @@adamk382 Sure, but like I said EVEN IF it could exist long enough to swallow the earth we have known since Newton and Kepler that orbits don't change unless the mass changes. I don't know what time period this is supposed to be, but I don't remember anyone thinking that black holes magically multiplied the mass that fell into it.

    • @Rabijeel
      @Rabijeel Рік тому

      @@adamk382 Sure, a great Deal of Data came from that Experiments done not only at CERN.
      But do not forget LIGO and many Others unmentioned.
      Without the detection of Gravitational Waves, we had still the belief in a static Universe with a set frame of "Space" instead of knowing it is more "fluid"-like (Ironically, here the Doctor Who-Quote fits very accurate: "Wibbly-wobbly-timey-wimey Stuff").
      Thoose combined let us have an advancement completeley throwing all I had learned till 30 about Space and Time as well as Physics out of the Window.
      The fluidity of Space (or, relativity if you like) and the relativity of Physics together was a step forward alike the first Person in Space and the first Landing on the Moon.
      So, to correct you here: It could swallow the Moon if it had been stable enough to swallow the Earth. It could not "reach" it to do so, but if in reach, it could.
      It is the Way this "reaching out" happens. A smoll Black hole could not attact the Moon who would instead flung out into Space - opposing to the former Belief that the "Vacuum suck it in" aka the Gravitational field would expand proportionally to the reduction of "Size" - as matter would have stayed the same. That this is pretty nonsensical many stated even back then, as mass and energy are linked, but the "Time" in that Calculation is basically a Variable put in to be able to solve the Equation - and it needs final definition, so "Speed of Light" comes to play.
      Fun Fact here is, you can change both (as they interchange) without the outcomes Relations between themselfs change.
      That is the next Step: Understanding that the Speed of Light is not a constant - it can change. We just need to change the other Parameters as well - or the one related Parameter - Time. Time is interaction in Space - without Space, no Time. Just uncertainty.
      That "Idea" is easy - to get there, that requires more than one Hawkins. Sadly, Albuqierre was not working as expected at all. In fact, it worked so badly, we have to rethink many Basics again.
      To point out the flaw above: If it would evaporate after swallowing the Earth, it had don so before. Too much opposition. If not, that would be really interesting, because then we had to consider reversing our understanding of Matter and Antimatter to the opposites of what we think to know at the moment.
      Not saying it is impossible, but highly unlikeley.
      By the Way: People beeing astonished that "Black Holes can give some Matter off" is also quite..... stupid.
      They do all the Time "give off" something. It is just that we do not "see" it.
      But, they fluctuate all the Time - they "Hum" so to say.
      Gravity - the interaction with the Space - has to happen somehow. that requires something interacting, thus some Energy used for it.
      And thus to think the "Mass" creating the "Distortion" is quite..... impractical thinking.
      Rather it is the Distortion that has a Effect alike to "Mass",
      And what that is - that is the really big question - if we only could invalidate the speed of light and the Properties regulating thoose.....

      @@Hedning1390when detonated the first atomic bomb the physicist were taking bets on whether they would incinerate the state of New Mexico or incinerate that atmosphere. Sounds far fetched based on what we know today but back then they had no idea what might happen.
      Black hole science had also come a long way but don’t look too deep into comments made on a made up tv show.
      Television isn’t real and it it best not to take it too seriously.
