Physicist Madelyn shares her hypothesis that all foods can be categorized as a soup, salad, or sandwich, and walks you through the scientific reasoning to prove it. This fun talk is guaranteed to leave you a little bit smarter and a whole lot hungrier.
Madelyn Leembruggen is a Ph.D. candidate in theoretical physics at Harvard University. Her research interests are broad; she wants to understand how microscopic (dis)order gives rise to macroscopic structure. Madelyn is dedicated to making physics an equitable, inclusive, and accessible space for people from all backgrounds, and with this goal she creates science content for all ages. When she isn't doing physics she's brewing coffee, thrift shopping, or cooking Indo-Dutch food for her family. By this logic Fondu is a soup, dumplings are sandwiches and pasta is a salad? Which is just goofy. You can put a sheep into stable, but it woun't become a stallion.
Is koththu Parotta a Soup, Salad or Sandwich? I believe it is neither of these.
Neither are Idlis.. which are steamed rice cakes.. I don't think they can be classified as a salad or sandwich, definitely not a soup.

@@if-and-only-if well, Idlis are not soups.. they are more like rice cakes. It can't be a sandwich, as there is nothing different inside the idli. and it is not a salad, either.
Koththu parotta has bite sized chunks with very low carb connectedness, which most probably makes it a salad.
As to what idlis are, I'm stumped!! It may probably be in the soup-sandwich zone.
But all things said, this classification is really fun. Calling koththu parotta as salads and icecream as soups! A great argument for when somebody is criticising my eating habits 😂😂

Depends, I guess. Just by itself it would be hard to classify, but as soon as you serve it with sides like potatoes, fries, or whatever else, it clearly becomes a salad.
