Life is too short to store my 911 and Cayman for half the year despite also being in New England. I think modern cars have pretty good rust proofing. I run smaller diameter wheels with my winter tires given potholes and road damage. I do garage them when not being driven though. And not driving a car for months isn’t great for it either in all honesty!
Agreed, my family member had a 1997 911, he lived down on the jersey shore year round, so very tough conditions in the winter from the winds and the salty air. He made a point to drive the car every Friday, rain or shine. It's a car, it's made to be driven after all.
I’m in awe with Garage 42 every time we get a glimpse of it. So much thought and care went into crafting this facility and it’s great to see that it’s successful.
Yeah. If only they hosted smth like visits for regular folks. I would gladly pay to come and just enjoy the looks of those cars. Of course, no touching, sitting in them and other stuff.
Tedward you are by far my favorite automotive content creator. The way you articulate your thoughts and ideas and make it as entertaining as it is, is totally unique to you. Keep up the hard work man
it gives me peace of mind knowing that my car is safe and actually be in better condition than what I gave it to them in. i don't have worry about door dings or any plow trucks pinstriping it. its great to have a place like G42 on this east coast now.
I am in Michigan & my IS500 is in storage & sits on Michelin Pilot Sport 4s (Summer-Tires). I already had a Fresh Oil Change & Keep the gas around half tank mark.
The worst problem here is that car manufacturers don’t care about rust protection on their cars. I've seen the underside of a brand new Civic Type R and it already had planty of small surface rust spots. Plenty of people complain about rust issues on new cars from many other manufacturers as well. Now think about VAG group in 1980's and early 90's and the amount of zinc they have been using to protect their cars (thanks to that we can still enjoy their cars from that era)
If you’re a Florida snowbird, no storage needed. However the salty air destroys metal pretty badly. Do people have climate controlled and filtered garages to prevent that in Florida?
ha ha i chuckled aloud when you talked about the mice! i do pest control for a living and all the mothballs, and peppermint, and sonic thingies in the world wont do squat.
Absolutely love your videos. They're just so calming. I wish I could garage my car but it's my only one ahah. My 2024 Elantra N will have to live through my harsh winters here in Canada where we reach -40F at times. Keep up the great work!
My daily is a 2020 Volvo. I've been driving Saab cars since 1989. I just bought my sixth it's a 9-3 convertible with 65,000 miles. I just put it in storage for winter. I'll take it out for excercise in dry roads once a month as I work 60/70 in winter anyway. I'm truly blessed to still experience Saab cars my entire life.❤❤❤Saab/Volvo for life.
good content! that storm last night in the north east (i'm in RI) was crazy! the humidity in my garage got so high my rotors on my lexus RCF got all rusty. i wish my garage was climate controlled, but it just is not in the financial cards right now.
I’ve had a bad first hand experience with rodents in garages. I had mice cause over $4000 worth of damage to my Kia Stinger. Kia had to redo the entire engine wiring harness. It took them about 2 weeks to complete. Luckily, insurance covered the costs after my deductible.
Naw you still have to use them. Cars that don't drive will end up with problems. It's jsut a matter of cycling in and out of them every few weeks to keep the juices flowing. Winter is the only dormant period because they cars will get destroyed by salt and road conditions
How much does that place cost a month to store a car? The climate control is, of course, awesome. One disadvantage, though, is that you (probably) can't change the oil immediately before putting the car away, which I always do.
We get snow too, but the snow melts, the salt gets washed away and the roads are clean until the next snow. I still use my 718 Spyder all winter, but only when the roads are clear and dry. Maybe those days don't exist in NE all winter?
the road conditions kind of require it. You can't do much with a stiff low sports car with giant potholes and huge frost heaves. It would be like off roading
Wow, what a diverse collection of incredible vehicles. A couple of questions: 1. Who makes the driving simulator? 2. Can you tell us the possible cost of it? Thanks! (Can't wait for your test drive of the four door classic Lincoln land shark)👍
They are on battery tenders and the wire would droop on the paint. The microfiber just makes sure theres no contact or scratching between the wire and the paint
its within spec. its not an alignment issue. if you're on right lane leaning right it will require left steering input. If you're on the left lane it will require some right input.
That's the chase car we use in the toter home when we go racing. The trailer has two race cars and the GR so we can get groceries without moving the frieghtliner. You can find videos of the big rig on the channel
@@TedwardDriveshow did the subframe look after the winter, I’ve noticed rust on my car is only starting to accumulate on the rear subframe and exhaust hangars. It’s only 6 years old and barely see’s winter.
all the hardware was pretty brown. I think overall it looked good but it was just getting crusty enough that I didn't enjoy working on it or removing things.
Am I being paid? No. Is it my close friend’s business (David) that I’ve had tons of input and discussion about for its creation and direction? Yes. I’m so impressed with what David and his team have done so I happily show it to the world because I spend a lot of my time there.
Life is wayyyyy too short to stress about a little salt on your sports car during winter. It’s like refusing to enjoy time with your girlfriend just to keep her "ready" for the next guy. Think about it this way: if you were in a 737 plummeting to the ground, would your last thought really be, "I should have stored my Porsche better"? Some people seem completely out of touch, in my opinion.
I own the cars and I work on the cars occasionally. its MUCH more fun to work on a car that has not welded every nut to every bolt with rust, not to mention the inevitable holes in the frame rails that will total a car. I certainly wouldn't compare an object that I own to my significant other since they have autonomy...but I would assume they would appreciate treating them well and not abusing them so we can have a happier and healthier relationship in the future together.
You do know you can wash salt and grime off your cars right ? I daily drive my 2017 Shelby GT 350 year round winter tires on in December in Rhode Island and weekly winter washes. Life is too short to put cars away. It’s garaged when not driven. Granted I don’t have collection of cars but I have a suv as well for when absolutely needed but it’s silly to say u can’t drive enthusiast cars year round.
Can't wash at home. No spot indoors and my hoses and driveway would freeze if I wash outside. If I wash at a car wash I still have a few miles to drive home and the cars get covered in salt on the way.

They can handle sitting for 3-4 months 🤣. My winter cars slowly evaporated due to corrosion. The ones I store stay perfect 👌
This is why living in the mediterranean sea is a blessing for car guys
