For you and Jeff both to increase your spinning kick skills, Scott Atkins actually has some of the best tutorials. For kicks in general, stretching, Superfoot Wallace.
Really love this more informative style of video. I think its easy for me to forget when watching a lot of your other content that you're not just a student and personality but a super experienced teacher too but it really shows here! It seems like you really enjoy teaching too. I was particularly surprised by the things you revealed to me about my mom; In fact you seem to have a very intimate knowledge about my mom and I think its really going to change the way I think about my mom moving forward. Love the vid as usual, keep it up!
Seems like when opponent is backed up against the cage, the tricky spinning kicks take advantage of the opponent being kind of scared. Could base an entire fighting style off of backing an opponent up to the cage and doing spinning stuff into a finish, or even if you miss, it closes the distance for a takedown
As someone who started karate this summer and started watching a lot of martial arts content online it is so cool so find this community of creators that appear in each other's videos (Seth, Mike, Jeff, Jesse, etc). Always a fun watch.
he's had lots of experience learning techniques, so he's good at visualising from examples and then replicating. this in itself isn't smth you're born with, it's practice etc.
you're a great teacher and your experience really shows. just that fact that you notice a fighters tendencies after a few rounds of sparring speaks volumes. jeff is amazing as always, that man is an animal. he seems to be the best type of student
Nothing makes your mom really shine like having a good chubby surprise. It really maximizes and takes full advantage of your mom to get correct positioning, drive, and impact 😁
Tornado kick is my fave and I've used it a lot in sparring/tournaments(TKD😅). Mine is pure momentum. I see most people have a slight pause after the first turn. Like they step forward with rear leg then initiate the turn. When I do mine, the rear leg forward is part of the spinning momentum. You get a ton of momentum this way. I also swing my arms out too as they get punched if they step into it during my turn.
Jeff Chan (as yourself), just in another level, has/is “the whole package” (and thanks to that He can just do/learn almost anything with His body, He wants): athleticism, stamina, excellent coordination, timing, reflexes and fighting spirit, combined with kindness, respect, open mind and humility. The qualities of a real Martial Artist. He just proved again. 🙏I’m very jealous.😁
Good to see the winner and runner-up from the USDC making cool videos together. Both of you gentlemen are awesome! My prediction: Jeff Chan wins his next fight via flying kick KO!
When Seth says "I'm not that good" and then proceeds to be amazing. Man, Jeff picked these up so quickly! The power of a great teacher and an astute student.
Seth my guy you’ve awoken a bunch of memories of mine when I used to do Taekwondo and practice/do all of these kicks + a lot more. You’re such a solid teacher too man the checklist in my head I would have teaching someone myself you nailed with what you showed. Awesome video as always keep it up!
imo the real advantage to the jump kick is it's unpredictability, with a good setup even the most experienced fighter will never see it coming forgot the most important thing --> awesome video as always love the content and the vibe
tornadoes or 360s are great, because they are so rarely seen (outside of TKD matches) even highly trained fighters will have a microsecond of brainlock when its coming at them. It can REALLY make someones brain go 'huh? wtf is THIS'. And it just looks SO COOL. As always, great vid Seth! And Jeff!
Itˋs just the best feeling when you get the tornado kick dialed in and then sink your shin in the heavy bag. The amount of force you can generate once you start exploding into the the rotation and relax while you spin. Just like a whip, you just let the power travel.
Both of you are very talented at kicking. Its impressive how Jeff picked up the coordination and had power in these kicks that were new to him. You did a good job teaching him Seth. Thumbs up.
"People don't move as fast backwards, as we do forwards" --> true, unless they are trained to move fluently backwards in combat like professional fighters/masters. (And they will move at an angle that puts you in the worst tactical position and open to counter-attack if not caught by suprise by your flying kick). Overall, a very good vid.
Love the energy throughout the video and especially at the end. The bit about doing not just what's necessarily most effective(not that these kicks cant be effective in the right situation as you pointed out) but also sometimes just fun and enjoyable and that in itself makes it worth doing
Seth is so flexible and Jeff is very experienced, so they both work well together without trouble All that’s missing was the bicycle kick but I wonder if Seth knows that one
the tornado kick is such a classic in taekwondo. where i trained we called them as the 360 variation of another kick, because you can throw most kicks after the spin, not just a side kick. in taekwondo it's simply one of the two ways you can throw a strong kick from your front leg while moving forward, the other one is simply to kick off a shuffle step. it adds some variation, forces people to worry about more possible kicks even right after you threw a kick.
On the not getting so dizzy thing, if you jump up and down it helps to reset your inner ear and you get less dizzy. This is something a lot of the my taekwondo class lives by anytime we're doing a ton of spin kicks
I’m glad you showed yourself mouthing your glove straps on. I always do that and was wondering if pros did it a better way. I guess teeth for the win, for getting your second glove on.
Jeff is going to land the pop up crescent, it looks really natural to him and works in his range, where he likes to be. Also it looks like he has figured out, if he misses a cross and the opponent is backing away, that he can roll right into it and close.
Spinning kicks and flying kicks work due to the massive telegraphing which shows; 9:50 about here MMAshredded used the tornado kick as a way to close in while also feinting with the added momentum of the step and also the distance closed he beautifully connected the tornado kick; then after he got in he decided to violate Seth even more with hooks
Taekwondoe guy here approves! My favorite is tornado roundhouse! That double kick was the most interesting to me and looks fun. Liked the faints to the spin kicks too gotta keep them guessing.
Only time I've seen a jumping axe kick used was in the movie Best Of The Best. It was used on Eric Roberts in his final match. He was on hands and knees and the kick was brought down on his shoulder, breaking/dislocating it.
It's two different hoods they are I don't recall if it's 30 minutes 40 minutes away from each other or 20 minutes but they are two different hoods kind of similar to like maybe two small towns in a way like how Elkhart Indiana is right next door to gochenour South bend their like 30 to 40 minutes away from each other but they're two or three different specific cities or towns
I did some TKD in my youth (ITF style so the sparring was more like kickboxing than the TKD you see in the olympics.) I was a fan of the roundhouse (or "turning kick") into tornado kick. I don't think I ever landed it in competition (not sure I even tried it, sidekick was my bread and butter) but you get some wicked momentum and it feels so sick to throw out the kick, tap the kicking leg down for a second while rotating before jumping off it to throw it out again. I don't think you even want to land the roundhouse, you just want the momentum and the space it gives you to complete your rotation. To your point at the end, probably more fun than practical.
Flying side kick is great. You're basically safe the whole time. The two touch I honestly think it works best the Buckley way from a catch cos then they're stood there. If you side kick someone anything they don't move that's pretty unusual
Allow me to disagree on the proper technique of the axe kick : When you load the kick (= swing your foot up), it should go beside your opponent. This means when you use your left foot, it will go up at the far right side, way more right than your own right leg. Your upper body kind of hunched. At the hight of the kick, your knee kind of almost touches your own face. Then you whip the foot down while your upper body snaps back, thia will ssvey increase he power of the kick. This snapping part of the axe kick will make your upper body kind of get into a sideward position vis-a-vis your opponent. The axe kick can be done moving forward, covering a great distance whereby your non-kicking leg slides forward. Or it can be done from an almost clinch when you break free from your opponent, in which case it is a backward jumped axe kick. So the jumping axe kick is performed when pushing off your opponent jumping backwards tk create enough space to axe kick.
super cool kicks. BTW Jeff, you're never gonna go beyond your limits in flexibility. There are two types of muscle tissue in different proportions for different people. They are red and white. If your white muscle tissue proprtion is bigger, you're less flexible than people with more red tissue. Its genetic, Stretching exercises do extend your range but if you can't do the splits in a month or two, thats it. watch for back pain. Stretching for us white tissue people causes a lot of lower back pain.
1:08 Brooklyn and the Bronx are 2 different boroughs found in New York. There are 5 of them, Manhattan (NYC), Queens, the Bronx, Staten Island, and Brooklyn

I'm not sure if anyone answered your question. Brooklyn is south of Queens and The Bronx is north of Manhattan and across the river from Queens. They're all different counties and are two of the five boroughs of New York.
Sakuraba used the flying side kick to flow into double leg take down, it flows perfectly, try it. Ofc the flying side kick is just a feint dont over do it.
Would you say that one of the results of the ultimate self-defense championships was greater dialogue and trading of ideas and techniques? Anyways, it was interesting to see you and Jeff train together this video
Really enjoyable and informative video Sensei. I saw that tornado kick you did in the last round where you had to pull it quickly or you would have taken his head off. You are moving better these days with all the training you are doing. Just a quick add on you must have been so happy you came up with the Mom bit. It made me laugh.
For real though, Jeff Chan is the closest thing to a modern day Bruce Lee. He knows so much. I was so happy to see him win fights in One. His channel is the best for breaking down other fighters' styles and then he tests what he picks up in sparring. Jeff is great.
I really want to have a sparring match with you just to see how you handle some different stuff you haven't shown in these videos, and to see the equipment differences between martial arts for sparring.
