MSOC-C-103-PERSPECTIVES ON INDIAN SOCIETY
Course Objective:
The course primarily focuses on the differing theoretical perspectives on Indian Society from late 19th Century to the end of 20th century and their role in shaping the field of sociology. It focuses on scholars with varying research trajectories and the threads that bind them together into a perspective. The course combines biography, institutional history, contribution and critical assessment of the sociologist. Learning Outcome:
To acquaint the students to the continuities and contradictions in Indian society through centuries and to explain the history of ideas related to the analysis of Indian society. It will also familiarise the students with the different perspectives on Indian Society.

Unit-5: Subaltern Perspective (B.R. Ambedkar, David Hardiman and Ranajit Guha)
MSOC-C- 101: FUNDAMENTALS OF SOCIOLOGY AND SOCIAL ANTHROPOLOGY
Course Objectives:
The objective of this course is to familiarize the students with the discipline of Sociology and Social Anthropology, its historical roots, subject matter and its scope in India and abroad. It would also look at different traditions in Sociology and Social Anthropology and the debates relating to the nature of society andculture. It would apprise students with the recent advances in the field of Sociology and Social Anthropology by focusing upon its emergingbranches.
Learning Outcomes:
The students will be able to understand and apply the basic concepts like groups, institutions, organization and community in understanding of society andculture. They should be able to appreciate the significance of Sociology and Social Anthropology and its contemporary role in thesociety.They will also critically understand the various approaches to understand society and culture to be able to understand how the knowledge of Sociology and anthropology is important for health, business, ecology, psychology, media and publicpolicy.
