      it's expensive because the $780 mil goes to the stadium but also hotels, residential buildings, and offices. the stadium is only one part of that price

    Affordable housing is a pie in the sky dream . That train left the station in 2010 when stuff was relatively affordable. The cost to build anything in 2024 is anything but affordable regardless of whether it’s a union labor force or not. My guess is it’s likely the former.

    People complaining about the 25k seating have to realize the local public transit couldn't handle a game at both stadiums and the US Open across the street at the same time if the capacity was doubled.

    £780 m??? How much is Luton’s power court with a 23k capacity
    (Oh- it’s not just the stadium it’s the neighbourhood- a bit like Spurs £1billion for the stadium and other gentrification which is get to happen)

      @@susjkaxxx9465 That's the standard for now since soccer is primarily popular amongst the youth and not the older generations. Even the biggest cities have similar sized soccer stadiums, mainly because of how easy they are to build, if a team has a bigger stadium, that's usually because it's also an NFL/CFL stadium.
      I should also mention that even other sports' stadiums size typically doesn't have much to do with city size, especially in the US and Canada.

      bournemouth, a premier league team where soccer/ football is the biggest sport, will have less capacity than that in their new stadium. 25k capacity is pretty decent for a MLS team since only a few care about the sport here

    Nycfc should rename themselves the cosmos theyre already more popular than the red bulls should also make the stadium at least 30k as their attendance is actually pretty good even with a baseball stadium. Shame mls sold its tv rights to apple should have stuck with espn or even prime most people dont have the appletv app

      Apple gave them a better deal. It’s 250 million per year but if MLS grows much more popular there are incentives in place that would see MLS get substantially more than just the $250 Million, potentially up to $500 Million per year if they achieve a certain level of viewership

      @@tylerclayton6081 the thing I see barely any advertising for it and it should have been part of the regular app not a separate one like peacock with the epl plus no games on Spanish tv hurts the Latin viewership they should have only given the English rights to Apple and gave Spanish to either Telemundo or Univision since they also have apps but oh well all we can hope for it's that this deal works out.

      Renaming the team the cosmos isn't possible. There's already a reborn version of the Cosmos set play in the NASL (the other North American soccer league).

      @@TamsuiDrift8 theyre on hiatus again but the metrostars should have been the cosmos and red bull should have been the second NY team which it pretty much is at this point anyway I feel Tampa would have done better with the rowdies name instead of mutiny I heard the usl version is doing well but people who grew up with the league were hoping a comeback and MLS first years alienated people with its dislike of the old nasl and silly on field rules. Wish apple made a doc on this from nasl to MLS the rise of soccer in America the hunt family kraft and others who helped in both leagues could be interviewed.

      If it is right next to Citi Field where the NY Mets baseball team play, it has its own subway stop. The Mets Willets Point station. You can take the subway on the 7 train or take a Long Island Rail Road train from Penn Station for $5 and it also stops on the Mets Willets Point station.

MLS is set to overtake the NHL in viewership very soon, the majority of teams sell out their matches, and people like you might want to do your research before making brainless takes like that
